I understand that the RT reviewer gets to decide if his/her review is 'fresh' or 'rotten' but I have to say it's disheartening how Man of Steel and This Is The End currently have the exact same average rating (7/10) yet Man of Steel is listed at 69% while This Is The End is at 81%. This is not to compare the two films, I just never realized how odd the RT rating system could be.

I know people who always liked Superman more than Batman because it wasn't as dark and brooding. :cwink:

Yeah, I do not follow Batman or Superman in the comics like some others do, but I always assumed Batman would be darker in tone than Superman most of the times. I am really interested in watching the movie to see how dark it really is.

Because I know people who have and I've read every review and my understanding is that there isnt a moment of levity until about 1.5-2 hours into the movie. Not a wisecrack from a character, situational comedy or one-liner.
So? That is the approach. It's been clear this wasn't going to have a whole bunch of humor since the beginning. Like, where have you been? This shouldn't be news to anyone. Also, that doesn't sound very believable.

Skyfall is set in that world. The Avengers existed in a campy world and so did Superman before this re-imagining (wonder why The Super-franchise was rebooted again? RIGHT, too campy, out of place, outdated and BORING) so everyone expects what they love from these characters and that's to be campy, Superman being one of them.

The critics choices in negativity is the reason why Superman will ALWAYS be that untouchable and controversial character that will always lack to move forward.

I read some guys review that his ideal version of the character is Christopher Reeve's Superman and Superman: The animated series and that's that. It's those types of attitudes and close-mindedness to the character that won't allow guys like Snyder/Nolan/Goyer re-invent the character and give us something DIFFERENT.

Again, all the negative reviews are actually positive for this fan. It's all good.

WB had to address the fans reactions to wanting a new Superman not tied to the Donner universe and they did that. SR actually fared well with most critics MOS seems to be turning more of them off but may please the fans much more..

And the laugh-riot The Dark Knight got a 94%.

Am i the only one who thought the joker was hilarious at many instances? of course in a dark humor kind of way.

Anyone going to tell me this wasn't comedy levity?

Zod had been done before, so as I said, you're not just remaking Superman, you're remaking Superman 1 and 2.

Which are movies that are over 30 yrs old. Movies that a great number of young moviegoers have never seen. My 20yr old nephews are all about comicbook movies and have seen almost all of the recent films. But they've never seen the Keaton Batman films, let alone the Reeve Superman films.

Agreed; I didn't think it'd go this low as well.

I have a few problems with the Avengers (still love it and have seen it far too many times already), but how is it campy?

It isn't. Camp has become the de-facto term meaning 'humor I don't like', rather than what it actually is - humor derived from how ridiculous something or a scenario is presented.

There was a great deal of humor in Avengers that most children or even teens wouldn't understand or find funny.

My take on that is they went into MOS with very high expectations and those were not met. So they decided to make a on the fence review Rotten..

We have a few little reviews and everyone loses there mind!!!!

It still blows my mind that my mother got the Galaga joke.

This forum is going to crash if MOS ends up with worse reviews than SR.

Most likely.lol

Plus, it'll somewhat prove that no matter what filmmakers do, Superman can't seemingly win over the critics and audiences alike.

I laugh out loud during most Scorsese films, even Raging Bull.
As you should. Scorsese's films are always hilarious and fun, but also emotionally hefty and heady.

Whats with you people???
The GA (Everyday people) doesn't care what the reviewers think!

I have a few problems with the Avengers (still love it and have seen it far too many times already), but how is it campy?

I just look at the Marvel-Universe as one big set of prop. I don't know how to explain it but my overall consensus when watching the Avengers more than a handful of times has some sort of campy-corniness to it that it felt more aimed towards children in overall execution than anything else.

Not saying that's a bad thing, I enjoyed the Avengers but my tastes, I like a realistic and more SERIOUS take on the characters and that's why I prefer DC to Marvel, especially TDK Trilogy and now Man of Steel in a heavily, heavily manor.

The audience percentage is also an important indicator in Rotten Tomatoes. Look out for that rating.

Cool to see someone admit that. People like to act as if Ledger's Joker was humorless.

I laughed at the pencil trick, his nurse getup, his reaction to the hospital explosion, him trying to shoot the armored truck with Dent, laughing as he's about to fall to his death just to be save by Batman. It's dark humor for sure, but you can't say it's not there. The Joker doesn't have to have the flower on his coat squirt water in some guy's eye in order to be funny.

That looks to be almost a lock now..

But will it make a lot of money???

We need it to if we don't want JLA shelved. Granted, in the back of my mind I wouldn't mind seeing JLA shelved for about 20 years so WB can't try to shoehorn Bale into it. But the other part of me wants to see JLA sometime soon. We won't get it if MOS is a financial disappointment.
