TDKR is IMO the worst one in the trilogy. Begins and TDK nailed the levity angle. TDKR tried but faltered. MOS I feel just failed.

Begins nailed it? Are you speaking of moments like, "nice coat" or "I gotta get me one of those" because most people seem to hate that. I would rather MOS not try anything like that. If not those moments in BB, then what examples of levity?

I'm not trying to be offensive, and I respect your time in the service. But this is a movie, and I doubt many service women and men have encountered Superman or other aliens with superpowers. I think typical reactions and normal behavior go out the window in those situations.

You're right. Hopefully no aliens ever show up or ewe run the risk of every service member turning into a babbling moron.

But that doesn't matter. The actress gave a horrible portrayal of an Army officer even before encountering Superman. On the same level as that girl in Fantastic Four 2.

The donner movies are being referenced because he nailed the character. His superman had charm, charisma, and his good nature was inspiring. These are integral aspects of the character that can be modernized without the camp. And it can be used to balance out the serious moments and the drive to endure the darker moments.

I think Cavill comes across as ridiculously charming in the interrogation scene from the trailer. And I can't imagine that's the ONLY moment in the entire movie when he does.

Well, Nolan was busy directing TDKR when this film was being made, so I'm not sure just how much blame actually falls on him.

Funny thing is, the same people looking to blame Nolan are the same people who said he had absolutely nothing to do with the movie (when they were certain this was getting 98% on RT)

Yeah, it's a little strange.

If anyone predicted anything under 80%, everyone on this forum would have called you a marvel fanboy or Nolan hater.

how is calling someone hot make you a moron, army officers arent machines. They are allowed to say w/e they want, kinda the point of american free speech. Some people make such a big deal out of one line in a 2hr 23min movie from a extra who managed to get a line in the film. some of you are hilarious.

Nah, that was forced humor. I mean the subtle bits of levity. Like Bruce being arrested for stealing Wayne merchandise. Those are winks to the audience that alleviate moments of tension.

Same goes for Joker's remote malfunctioning in TDK. That's levity. Not humor.

exactly, i remember everyone throwing a fit at the "nice coat" comment. That it didnt fit in a Batman film.

Fair enough

Saw it last night at a sneak preview. I found it to be a frustrating experience. It's like they had all of the right elements, all the right actors, all the right FX budget, the right producer...but it was all arranged in a mish-mashed kind of way that wastes too many opportunities to kick this film into "epic" territory.

So many missed chances at powerful emotional beats. Felt rushed, or like there was a missing 30 minutes of footage that would help smooth things out a bit. When he gets the suit I wanted to feel that in my chest! But it just sort of...happens. Fizzles. Nothing like the moment Bruce discovers the cave is surrounded by bats.

Russell Crowe steals the show, and the Kryptonian stuff is awesome. But even then it feels like there's too many unanswered questions, and the sense of urgency, space and time are lacking.

And there was way, way too much destruction for my tastes. Krypton destroyed, Smallville gets wrecked, Metropolis takes a hit, hell, even the Kent house is trashed. And then everything is OK and we all go to work the next day. Huh?

I'd say this film is *almost* as good as Batman Begins. I'll give Cavill credit: when he's given the right scenes and the right lines to say, he really does exude Superman-ness.

That all being said, I think I'm done with Zack Snyder. He's pretty much disappointed me with everything he's done after 300. I'll admit that he's on his best behavior here (no slow-mo stuff), but he's sorely lacking in his actor directing skills. And he's getting way too indulgent with the action.

this dude likes the word levity.

We'll have to see the movie to know for sure. But donner didn't just inject that into the character, it came through in the story as a whole. And I certainly don't see that happening with MOS, and the critics seem to largely agree with that as a common flaw in the film.

sounds better than avengers, entire city destroyed, lets go get some shawarma!

I don't understand the need for levity, BB, TDK and TDKR are all very dark, they have occasional small funny moments, but there seems to be some of those in Man Of Steel too.

Very well said. Very much agree.

Well, it's important to realize that this isn't batman. Superman requires for more levity.

Someone grab a thesaurus and look up levity....while completely accurate, the word is getting annoying.

Too much destruction, huh? I felt it was very fitting considering a small army of Kryptonians are trying to cause complete havoc.

I guess Superman should have done this:

Things working in other movies don't have to necessarily work in this one aswell.
