Okay, this is genuinely getting quite upsetting.

Please don't say I've waited all this time and the movie sucks :(

I know I shouldn't care what critics say, and one or two trashing the movie I could deal with.

But with the way it's sliding...

It's going to be close. The worrisome thing is that I know of several negative reviews that are out there, like Richard Roeper's or the Forbes review that have not been counted. Now there will be other positive reviews for sure, but I don't see the ratio of positive to negative changing, if anything it's getting worse.

I guess we'll see.

I wouldn't give up hope just yet.

If you are referring to the review Forbes review by Mendelson it will not be counted.

Because the guys has been reviewing movies on his own blog for quite awhile and hardly any of his reviews have gone up, probably because he doesn't meet the requirements. He only recently switched to writing for Forbes instead of on his own. So unless MOS is gonna be his first review on RT its not going up.

Wasn't Mendelson the one that got kicked out of RT because he joked about a TDKR review?

My expectations for this movie have been high, and remain so. That said, it might be prudent to wait until we have seen it before writing off the critics as biased, misinformed or plain dumb.

If the film is being unfairly treated, then I sense that may be due to 'superhero saturation'. I have said it a lot of times, but while fans will always be happy to see these characters competently put on screen, the scrutiny of critics will become less indulgent over time. They have to assess a movie as a movie, not as an attempt to do justice to Superman.

regwec...always the smartest guy in the room.

I think this film doesn't perform very well at the box office, then this might be curtains for the DC movie universe that WB is trying to open up. It'll be another 10 years of Batman films.

I haven't really... It is a bit disconcerting though.

Put it this way, if I love this movie, I am going to be so damn angry about such a high level of negativity in the reviews.

But I can't say things like 'It does not deserve a lower rating than ... ' Until I've seen it.

Over here in the UK, it's been getting positive reviews (Empire and Total Film both gave it 4 out of 5, they gave the same score to Superman Returns). Other reviewers here are also giving it 4/5 e.g SkyMovies, DigitalSpy, SFX.

Weird.

:csad:
yeah, I've been optimistic and I'm open to the criticism, but wow, this is awful, I was definitely not expecting this scenario, I was expecting the movie to get mixed reviews or to land a 70's score as the worst case, now I'm praying for it to stay fresh. Damn :csad:

Haha, basically, yeah.

Yeah, its quite upsetting. I'm gonna have the negatives in the back of my mind when I see it.
I'll make up my own mind about it of course, but my excitement has been knocked down a little bit.
I am trying to stay positive tho.

Good to hear, TF is a mag I turn to for reviews. I dig their style and taste.

I applaud your rational thinking and would like to subscribe to your newsletter

I don't know many critics who feel the market is oversaturated. People just want a movie that's technically sound. Doesn't even have to be dynamically creative as long as it is well executed. Avatar is the best example of this. Creativity is obviously a welcome bonus but it's not the be all end all of a film. Very few genre movies are District 9.

Man, really? You keep reviews of other people in mind when seeing a movie for the first time? I can't even imagine dealing with that. This isn't being sarcastic either. You can't turn off that part of your brain?

Actually...Empire gave SR, 5 stars, and some people here like to delude themselves that SR was critically panned right out of the gate.

I agree. I was on about this before. Even I'm feeling a bit worn by the constant cycle. That's me, a guy posting on cb forum.

I just wanna see it now. Really, for reassurance that all that faith and anticipation wasn't for nothing.

I wasn't here before SR, but I can only imagine how horrible it must feel to those who were, and sort of went through the anticipation followed by dissapointment once already :(

But how many people here have said its good? And how many positive reviews does it have compared to negative ones? Ya know someone I know made a great point for alot of these critics there Superman was Chris Reeve so maybe they wanted something more light hearted like the Donnerverse.

Have faith be wise the right people are saying this us good, who gives a crap what some snooty critics say.

Well said,

I watched it last night. I'm a hardcore Superman fan and my heart was just breaking by the end. The movie didn't quite connect with the audience. I was frowning and rolling my eyes at so many parts. Important scenes were ruined by bad acting, bad editing and build up and poor music choices. They had half a year extra to edit this!!

I'm hoping in the sequel will be better.
