I was disappointed with Zod. He was hyped up to be the best villain in a cbm since Ledger and he couldn't even really stand out among other actors in this film. I even thought Faora was just as maniacal if not moreso.

Do I prefer them? Yes. Do I think they are great movies? No.

I reviewed this film without comparing it to previous ones. And I felt it doesn't stand up on its own merit.

You lost credit when you prefer SR and Superman II. Those were terrible films regarding Superman. At least now i know I will love MOS for sure.

Let's respect each other's opinions, please.

Star Wars ended the way it did because they didn't know if there would be a sequel. Lucas had written a bigger story, but there was no guarantee that he would get a trilogy (there was no "Episode IV" in the original release, it was added when it was re-released in 1978).

It ended the way it did so it could stand alone if it had to.

I really don't understand the comparison of
the destruction of Metropolis and death of thousands of innocent people
to the destruction of the Death Star filled with bad guys.

Also, Superman was a bit of a pompous prick in that last scene with the general.
Dude, your horseplay ruined an entire city!

Horseplay? I must have missed the scene where Zod and Superman decided to fight in Metropolis for the heck of it. And here I thought Superman was trying to stop the main villain from killing all of humanity.

No, it's not the same thing at all.

In some ways these mixed reviews have made me even more curious.

Actually there was a lot of things those movies got right.

That's what I'm saying. But if this movie takes itself too seriously... I'm gonna love it.

Its very serious. BB/TDK serious except a helluva lot more action and if you are TRULY a Superman fan, you will love MoS. The GA will go crazy for the action alone.

Me too. SR already tried reviving the same shtick from the 70's, it didn't work. Personally, I've been waiting for Superman to have real action, I'm more than excited for this...

Much more similar to the climax in STID, only portrayed a little worse since the destruction in MOS was ten times worse.

And I, for one, thought they handled the aftermath of the destruction in STID just as poorly

I guess I'm not truly a Superman fan. Good to know I can throw out my comics now.

I honestly think those films especially the "classics" wouldn't be able to bear the level of criticism or critical standards a film like faces today. All this talk of character development...

With the type of logic that allows for magical kisses over and over and time warps by way of flight, bringing people back from the dead...

And all this talk of Shannon not living up to the hype, if we had a corny lex(and I'm talking spacey here) running around in this post 2012 cinema landscape.

Let's be serious here friends.

I'm not convinced the GA is gonna love this movie across the board anymore. Maybe they will but right now it's up in the air. The are quite a few people and critics who've seen the film who are mentioning the audience not really getting into it.

As a movie, MoS is excellent. It is not straight up comic and neither were Nolan's Batman films. And last time I checked, those movies did pretty well financially and critically.

They wouldn't. But they don't have to because they didn't come out this year.

That's a very obtuse way of thinking. You're assuming people are flat out not giving Cavill a chance when it seems like most of these people just liked Reeve better.

That's like telling someone who has only eaten cheese pizza that they have to try and judge pepperoni pizza without comparing it at all to cheese.

It's also very obtuse to expect future Superman to fill Christopher Reeve's exact shoes (exact being the key word since adaptations between 1978's Superman and 2013's Superman is bound to be different). I'm not assuming anything since I haven't gotten the chance to go in-depth with some reviews, but the general idea seems to be bipolar at best: "We don't want a Superman that takes itself seriously, but we don't need the campiness of the 1980s."

And even then, you have reviewers who commend Henry Cavill in his performance as Clark and Superman...so take that for what you will. The more accurate analogy would be: why not just eat the pepperoni pizza without having to constantly compare it to cheese? You may not like it as much as the cheese or maybe you prefer it better than the cheese, but give it a shot first before you shoot it down.

You're right... It'll definitely be split now... I have gone through many reviews and it seems the complains are pretty much the same... so, I am pretty sure many GA will share those exact same complains...

However, I am still pretty sure I am personally going to enjoy it because I am a big 'action' addict... I can probably forgive a lot...
