I will want to be all for this film. I don't much stock in the RottenTomatoes score but I am more worried about it lasting effects not those are that are intermediate if that made sense.

I hate to compare it to THOSE films, but think of Transformers. Terrible RT ratings, did tons of money.

Confirmation bias. You really think critics are dishonest? Really?

Yea I do really!!!! Seeing as how you look to call me out I am going to have some fun with this. I will look for the light before the dark unlike most of these people on here who are under their beds right now scared because MOS is sitting at a 62% on RT. I have read more positives than negative even though RT doesnt reflect it. I also know how some critics thrive off bashing a movie they know people are anticipating. Superman is one character that is hard to please to people because they cant get Reeve out of their mind and they cant let the 1978 movie go. MOS isnt trying to be better than S:TM and Cavill isnt trying to be Reeve (that was all Routh and Singer). Snyder took Superman from the comics and made him a big screen version. Superman has not been a boy scout in the comics or cartoons in years. Have you seen Superman Unbound??? If not check it out because that Superman was no boy scout. If you want a campy cheesy Superman then go see S:TM or SR with Routh and his big dumb grin turned frown when he found out Lois was with another man. And how he didnt do jack ***** when Lex destroyed his Fortress and took his power crystal. Snyder said NOPE not in my movie! Critics cant even see what the movie gives us and that in MOS 2 we will get the Clark who feels more at home now and probably will have the chessy smile, hell he might even say Swell for all the 1978 die hards

Also, think Batman Begins or Prestige. Not saying it'll be like that, but strange things have happened with the ratings.

Look for the light, but without giving crap to critics, who are actual people. Is your method of looking for the light to throw darkness on others?

Having said that, yes, there are some critics who are going by nostalgia or by the tiresome standard of "CB movies MUST be fun and cheesy". But not all of them are like that.

My mini review from the other thread:

I went in with way lowered expectation based on the reviews, but it would have blown past even my highest expectations.

I have to say I completely enjoyed the movie. The acting was spot on by everyone. Going in, I was worried that the shadow of the initial movies would hang over this one - I was wrong. Coming out of the movie I realized that I never even thought about comparing the two movies even once.

The performance by Cavill was brilliant. He owns the role completely. Shannon was not as good as expected. Costner and Crowe were both great. Amy Adams and Antje Trauea were both good.

All the criticisms I have heard of lack of character development for everyone apart from Superman do apply, but everyone is forgetting that
the movie takes place in a timespan of 48 hours total for the main parties involved. And in this timeframe every single character almost gets a character moment. Perry White would rather stay and die than leave people behind. Steve Lombard is a perennial flirt, Lois is spunky, Colonel Hardy is for the greater good. Only Jenny doesn't get any defining trait.

The audience I watched it with applauded 5 times (apart from the ending which got the most applause especially when
Clark Kent is introduced

The 5 instances were
1. The truck
2. First flight
3. Gravity beam smash
4. The smallville fight
and most surprisingly
5. when Superman killed Zod.

The final sequence of fights is just brilliantly done. They nailed Superman's flight.

The audience I watched it with loved it, could hear the talk in the lobby post the movie. Don't know if this will translate to all audiences everywhere, but this truly is a great beginning for a new Superman.

The movie was an amazing ride. It builds and builds and builds for the first 100 odd minutes with a few action scenes thrown in to get us ready for the final 30 minutes where the movie just finds another gear.

To paraphrase (and change) a Roger Ebert quote: I loved this movie. Loved, loved, loved, loved, loved. Loved it.

Pst, you called people who like it people with a brain, so the ones who don't like it are implied by you to be without a brain, ergo stupid. I won't argue lots about this, but the past few months I've been trigger-happy with the report button. Tread carefully. Don't call names, directly or indirectly.

go ahead and press the report button buddy!!! I dont care I wasnt even calling out anyone on here. I said critics with a brain not posters on this forum. You think you scare me because you are going to report me??? Sorry I am not scared at all. grow up please

So your problem with the film was too much action?making the story not great has it should have been?

When someone says "too much action" I tend to translate it as "too much awesome".

Does it matter if the ones you're calling out are here? Is that your way of thinking in life? I should grow up?

Hey guys and gals,

Saw Man of Steel Tuesday at a critic's screening. Here's my review. It's a long one but I felt the movie deserved a proper critique from a fan's perspective. Hope you enjoy it and thanks in advance if you read it.

I dont know what country you are from but here in good ol America we can say what we want when we want. I will give crap to any critic I want to. I can bash any critic I want to. I am not going to let their negative input sway my judgement anymore than I would hope it would not sway yours. People need to judge for themselves and not rely on someone else's opinion. If a critic thinks its awesome doesnt mean another will but that doesnt mean someone cant have a rebuttle to what they think. I do not know who you think you are but dont even try to control what others say or do. You are not the leader of anyone but yourself

Me too. There are films with low rt scores that I love and films with high rt scores that I don't like. Reviews mean nothing to my enjoyment/anticipation of a film. Still can't wait for only god forgives too :yay:
my thoughts exactly:

Equilibrium: 37% (i adore this film)
Return to Oz: 55% (found this on dvd, and i still love it)
Apocalypse Now/Redux: 99%/93% (bore fest- never finished it)
Star Trek Generations: 47% (probably my favorite of all of them)
Spawn: 19% (can never get enough of this movie)
Alien vs Predator Requiem: 12% (really like this film. the gore makes it better)
Karate Kid Part 2: 41% (love it. my favorite of the trilogy)
The Godfather: 100% (will never see it. EVER. )
No Country For Old Men: 94% (no desire to see it, and never will)

so you see, the reviews i see at RT make no difference to me.

Man of Steel review

very good review, out of 4 stars where would you rank it?

Looking back at my comments about the possibility of MOS scoring lower than Superman Returns, even if it is better... It seems it wasn't that much of a stretch

Yeah. It reminds me of when people said that 'Piranha 3D' had too many boob shots. How can you have too many shots of boobs? What the hell is wrong with those people? :woot:

Oh, the ignorant irony. We're done.

Man, this thread reminds me of all the CMB review threads to films that didn't get raves from critics (Green Lantern, SM3, FF, etc).

We all want the film to be so great that we pick apart all the reviews and look for any reason why they're "wrong". It's always the same with each of those films before release. Then the film gets released...

This film could very well still be a crowd pleaser. But history has shown...

The crazy thing though? It has the same top critic rating as Batman Begins. The overall one doesn't count since I'm pretty sure that gets updated still to this day. So, overall, it is getting the SAME exact response Batman Begins got. I don't see how this is a bad thing.

Even if SR scores higher on RT I dont take that much into account. I have heard better feedback from movie goers that this is way better than SR. SR hit home with critics who dont like MOS simply because he was more of what they grew up with. I even read WB was way more thrilled with MOS than they were with SR. They could have given SR a sequel, what it made was in line with most Marvel movies outside of Iron Man. But WB just didnt like it. But some people might like SR and the 1978 feel. I have been waiting a long time to Superman do what he does best and thats not save kittens or lust over Lois every 5 mins. I want to see him tear it up

this movie seriously rocks, i mean nolans entire batman franchise as a whole is pretty lukewarm when you really think about it, i think there are just alot of batfanboys on these boards who dont want to accept That man of steel will become a more epic franchise

For somebody that claims to be such a fan of The Last Son of Krypton you sure seem to have not let the character influence the way you interact with other people here. Tact, humility and graciousness are hallmarks of Superman. If you are as big a fan as you claim I would think some of that would rub off. WWSD?

I agree and I applaud you for seeing the positives. This board seems like its a suicide watch hotline. All these people ready to slit wrists or OD because it doesnt have a 92% on RT. I swear if Nolan was the director and it was at 62% they would be bashing every critic and saying that its not Nolans fault. but because Snyder directed it the 62% is expected and its all Snyder and Goyers fault.

When someone says "too much action" I tend to translate is as "too much awesome".

I am 28 years old. I couldn't tell you when exactly I was introduced to Superman, but I have memories of being 3 years old watching the old 40's Superman cartoon and the moment that sticks out the most is when Superman is flying and punching his way through a giant laser beam. I can't shake that image.

Chances are you fell in love with Superman as a kid because you saw him do something amazing and powerful. Think of every Superman cartoon you ever loved. The first half was plot setup and the second half was Superman doing cool s***. And you loved that cool s***.

I'm glad this movie has tons of the cool s***. I'm glad they captured the essence and the spirit of the character in a way that's never been realized, but I'm also glad that it appears they dedicated a decent portion of the film to just displaying the sheer "power" of Superman. Because that's practically half of the equation right there. That was the appeal for all of us. That's what always separates Superman from the rest.

It's like sometimes we forget what type of movies these are. I am so f'n giddy that this movie sounds like it's strong on the character stuff in the beginning and then just flat out onslaughts you with raw power. The more and more I hear about this movie, the more and more it sounds like the perfect Superman movie.
