Haven't seen the movie, but i've loved every single bit of footage from the trailers (I haven't watched the tvspots or clips). I love the new approach they have on the character.
I'm a fan of the character, but I'm not too much into the comics, even when i like to think i'm well informed about them.

I honestly think most critics have at least some nostalgia affecting their judgement. I think they were expecting it to be a lot more like the Donner's films, or Superman to be exactly like Reeve's take on the character.

I think they got into the theater expecting something very specific, and they justdidn't get it.I really think they just couldn't getthe modernization, this new take on the concepts of the mythos.

You have to judge thigs for what they are, not what you thought or would've liked them to be.

I'm fairly certain that, while these may not be the only or biggest flaws of the film, it's something that is definately taking a lot of points away from most reviews.

If this rests permanently at 59%, just ONE percentage point from being fresh...then i'm burning all my clothes...

Bit of an over reaction. I'll root for the 60% just so you remained clothed... ya know... for the children's sake.

I just saw the movie today. I liked it. Its basicly superman kicking ass. Love the fact they showed krypton in great detail this time.

The only negative thing I have for this movie is that the first 1/4 feels kinda rushed.

On directv, whenever a movie plays on cable or on-demand, they tell you right up front what the RT scores are. It does matter to some degree.

I'm used to the photorealism effects of the Begins trilogy. While not perfect, it's hit closer to the mark than any other film I've seen in this genre.

Avengers was fine because the CGI melded with the coloful comic-like cartoon aesthetic of that world.

The CGI with it's CGI style completely contrasted with the real world Superman being presented. I did expect new innovations with vis FX.

I'm allowed to have high expectations. It's Superman! Your'e supposed to have the highest of expectations! THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT!

I was a big proponent of the WF or the JL movie. Now? Not at all. Not if they're all gonna be like this.

I can tell already Flash is going to be next and they're going to use the same formula and I'm going to hate that movie too.

I can tell you that I had very high expectations myself. At no point did I feel the visual effects contrasted with the style of the film, and it certainly didn't come across as having a cartoon aesthetic. I thought it was all top notch and finally showcased a Superman fighting with his abilities on full display. Could certain moments had have more originality? Sure, but I still loved every second of it.

I'm telling you as someone who not 24 hours ago was arguing the same point... that's not the case.

Comic book and action it succeeds in blowing stuff up and show iconic imagery from the source material.

That said - as a general movie with drama and emotion - that's where it fails. Don't get me wrong, there's moments of pure gold. I was crying like a baby at one point. But overall - 85% of the movie has no heart and no connection to the character of Kal-ek / Clark / Superman.

Jow, did you write up a more full review somewhere on SHH that I can read?

Some of the people who watch movies on here look too much into stuff that should not matter. I hear so many complaints about CGI but of it were put together like movies were 20 years ago people would complain the graphics suck and its cheap looking. When did people stop going to see movies to have fun? Now you go to nit pick every flippin detail? If you got so many complaints then pitch your idea of Superman or any other CBM to a studio and see of it gets picked up. Then direct and produce it and see how it is to be the one always getting nit picked.

Very nice review, It's getting abit unbearable on here with people panicking about RT. I really don't remember it been like this after Superman Returns.

You must not been on the Bat Boards so in the days before TDKR got released. :o Maybe it's a DC Boards thing. :oldrazz: Then again, Marvel haven't been in quite the position where bad reviews would cause a meltdown amongst its fans. That first hurdle will come with TA2.

I absolutely loved the very last few minutes of the movie, very simple but one of the best. :applaud

Movies will fall all along the spectrum from good to bad. Rationalize all you want. You think any of us watched the movie, and came back just to troll you PERSONALLY or something? It is what it is.

I am sorry but after about 4 lines down I couldn't even read your review anymore. It is worse than anything I have read so far. Once you compared it to GL I knew you had no credibility and I couldn't take you serious. Not one reviewer has disliked it enough to compare it to GL.

I'm not a sups fan in the least bit. I want to see this anyway because it looks great and the other side of me says this is their last chance with me. DC/WB just doesn't do well by their heroes on screen with the exception of Batman, in my personal opinion.

However, I am just floored by the now rotten rating. The class of actors, the team behind this movie, and Sups IS probably the best Superhero of all time to a lot of people. I honestly was expecting it to be in the 75-80% range.

I'm still going to see it. Its not panned like Transformers 2, but this may be a case of fans and critics now on the same page. And like Tformers 2, it was money vs critics, and money won.

Have you seen the movie?
