I'm telling you as someone who not 24 hours ago was arguing the same point... that's not the case.
Comic book and action it succeeds in blowing stuff up and show iconic imagery from the source material.
That said - as a general movie with drama and emotion - that's where it fails. Don't get me wrong, there's moments of pure gold. I was crying like a baby at one point. But overall - 85% of the movie has no heart and no connection to the character of Kal-ek / Clark / Superman.

I agree with you, I'm pretty sure the movie has many, many flaws. Flaws regarding the execution of some scenes we've seen in the trailers, mostly.
But I still think maybe they were expecting to see the same Superman of Returns (a movie that I actually like -please don't kill me-), saving everyone no matter how far he is from the problem, being the perfect good boy, just throwing some punches this time.
Reading most reviews I can tell it took at least some important points away from the score.
Anyways, I'll go see it today, if not tomorrow, and hope to really enjoy it for what it is, as i've lowered my expectations a bit.
I tink word ofmouth will make it succed in the end.
He's been riding on batman begins.

That's your prerogative but while I hope I don't have the same opinions he does when I see it I think his review was well written and pointed to some credible issues to have with a movie.I am sorry but after about 4 lines down I couldn't even read your review anymore. It is worse than anything I have read so far. Once you compared it to GL I knew you had no credibility and I couldn't take you serious. Not one reviewer has disliked it enough to compare it to GL.
People are so quick to say it has flaws and its poorly executed. Thats someones opinion of it. How would you know if you havent seen it? I have read numerous reviews saying its got great story acting and is perfectly executed. All these people on here jumping the negative bandwagon but I dont see people jumping on the numerous positive reviews RT wont ever post
When the team of Goyer, Nolan, and Snyder came together to create the new Man Of Steel movie, they made the film from the standpoint of that they were making the first ever Superman movie. However, the reality is that they were not making the first ever Superman movie, and a lot of critics have seen the previous Superman movies, which leads to preconceived expectations.
While Superman Returns faced criticism for being too much like the Donner Superman movies, Man Of Steel is being criticized for the exact opposite reason. Several critics specifically drew comparison to the film not having the whimsical charm of the 1978 Superman as their primary reason for not liking the film...
...Besides the comparison to Donners Superman, the other running criticism seems to be Man Of Steel has too much action, too many visual effects, and is too loud...
...Another part of some critics disappointment appears to be that Supermans relationship with Lois Lane isnt explored in more detail. With the 1978 Superman, the romance between Superman and Lois was the key focal point of the movie, but in Man Of Steel the relationship between Clark and his two fathers, Jor-El and Jonathan Kent does seem to take more of a precedence.

I don't get the die hard attitude to dismiss everything negative as bad and not to take seriously. I'd say it's far more serious to have seen the movie and explain your thoughts in detail than to not having seen the movie and dismiss what people who have think about it.
Even if you watch it and love it doesn't mean that another person's opinions aren't worth taking seriously.

In short, the movie critics are actually missing the classic Superman and want him back.
