Hey guys, Bane's size and muscles don't matter. It's the acting skills.

So why not have Christian Bale wear a suit similar to BnR. I mean come on, just like what the apologists say, it's all about the acting skills and the rest will be tolerable.

Well at least we know that both sides of the argument can resort to the extremist Batman & Robin analogies.

But his sentence was just a summary of his overall point, to what he was responding to. His response was to somoen who said the physical features don't make up any kind of characteristics. And physical appearance does have everything to do with making up a characteristic, but it's not the only defining quality.

You kinda cherry picked a little sentence, and never gave thought to what he was responding to, and you also took away his points before it.

He used a word that he didn't need to use. His point about Two-Face sounds wonderful, but if the character's personality is completely raped while the visuals are maintained then clearly appearance is NOT everything as he claimed in that last sentence.

In Marx's defense, even though I'm arguing against him here, I think it's quite clear that he meant that physical appearance is as important to a character as their personality, not that you had to choose one or the other.

Thank you both.

how do we know that the fur coat is actually a part of Bane's costume, instead of just something he's wearing on set??

Not the same thing. For one, Bane's suit in this movie doesn't appear to have nipples or anything ridiculous of the sort...or am I not looking closely enough? :oldrazz:

It's in the teaser, or at least he's wearing a similar type of jacket in it.

Im happy so far with Bane's overall appearance, and I generally cannot agree with those that say he doesn't look like Bane. His height is the only thing that still worries me (judging from the pictures posted today).

Most likely it is. Its summer time. Have you been wearing a Fur coat lately? Its fargin hot.

No that is his costume. IMO its pretty awesome. He probably jacked the coat from someone he pummeled.

You purist! :argh:

:oldrazz:

I think purist and apologist are sweeping generalisations that are equally annoying. Something we should all bear in mind when taking offense at being called one while calling people the other.

Depends on the context. If I knew nothing about this film, and was shown this pic completely out of context and asked who it was, I admit I may be at a loss. But if you showed me this pic and said, "What Batman villain is this?", Bane would be the most obvious answer to me. The mask and the physicality - even if it isn't the same design of mask or the same physical stature as in the comics - is enough to identify him in that regard.

Fair enough.
Though...I think with that coat and vest..and the simple fact that he's wearing a mask.He could be mistaken as with hush maybe?:cwink:
Hell..I seen a "TDKR teaser reaction video"(not sure why I watched such a thing) where a kid said something like.
"There was a flash of this one guy with a black mask...I think it was black mask":funny:

Irrefutably, yes.
Bull ****!

Anyone notice how the mask looks like a gaping maw from a distance?

The height thing does not bother me. They seem to be cheating for height, look how he was shot in the trailer, or where the camera rig is in the new pictures. It's a shot from the back and another from below.

Besides, if he's not huge to me it's not the end of the world. A reasonably big dude pumped up on venom might work in Nolan's world rather than a large hulking beast.

IMO, stating that "physical appearance has everything to do with a character" is not the same as stating that "physical appearance is everything". The statement "everything to do with" just establishes the idea that there is an inseparable relationship. A character is a sum of attributes which includes physical traits.

I wouldn't say Nolan's Bane looks nothing like Bane from the comics but they have clearly gone in a different direction visually. With that being said, I do believe that physical appearance is often about portraying an idea to your audience. Despite deviating from his comic book look, I'm of the opinion that they can still stay true to the character. If you are a fan of Bane's classic look then I can't fault you for feeling disappointed. However, personally, I find myself....not really caring.

My only nitpick so far is that I really wish the mask would cover more of the face. They should have managed to update his look like they did Batman's cowl. That isn't just like some piece of cloth like in the comics.

That's not what she said.
:awesome:

Yes,
A that's what she said joke.
waka waka waka

Yes it does. If looks didnt matter then they would have cast Meryl Streep.

I don't know if you'vebeen following my posts but if you have, you would've known that I was being sarcastic.

Physical traits are just as important as acting skills.

How much of his face? I think it's important to allow Hardy to use his eyes. Otherwise it's a bit of a waste to hire an actor of his caliber.

In terms of Bane's look, in terms of costume it's pretty generic. I can't bring myself to be devastated over the loss of Bane's iconic.... black vest and black pants. The closest thing to a major loss is Bane's mask, as the comic mask has a great design, and I still like it better than the film equivalent. But the film mask has an interesting design in its own right.
