The Dark Knight Rises Tom Hardy as Bane IX

Hey guys, Bane's size and muscles don't matter. It's the acting skills.

So why not have Christian Bale wear a suit similar to BnR. I mean come on, just like what the apologists say, it's all about the acting skills and the rest will be tolerable.

it's like these new pictures wiped everybody's memory. wearing a coat and long sleeves don't erase his muscles, jesus.

he's plenty big. he'll be wearing a black tank top at some point in the movie just like the comic. i'd say there's about a 90% chance he'll be using venom in the flick. he's going to beat the **** out of batman. this is pretty comic accurate Bane.

Everything looks awesome, but why didn't they just make Bane's stunt double much taller than Hardy/Bale?

I think now that Nolan has gotten the trust of the mainstream Bat fans, he wants to create his own Batman universe that is ways off from the Batman universe that we're used to.

I feel that his intention is to have a Bane that is shorter and smaller than Bats. Both Hardy and the stunt double are shorter than both Bats (Bale and Bale's stunt double).

I'm just surprised Batman still looks like Batman. Can you imagine the travesty it would be if Batman had real Bat ears with fur instead of rubber horns?

I'd rather go by official footage we've seen of Bane rather than spy pics of him on set to judge how he'll be portrayed size-wise. And in the shot of him with Batman, he appears to loom over him, being bigger, stronger, and capable of defeating him.

In terms of physical appearance you're correct, however Hardy is capable of dominating opponents in a fight. If he brings the same aggression and dominance that he brought to Bronson, then I have absolutely nothing to worry about. I'm hoping we can somewhat agree on that.

I'm not saying that he isn't capable of dominating opponents in a fight. (Bronson was a good indicator of that.) What I am saying though is that Hardy still is not on the level physically that Bane should be and that Bane has always been. Bane has never been one that is the same size as Batman and who looks Batman straight in the eye.

It's a movie.
ANYBODY can be made to look like they're "capable of dominating opponents in a fight"

There's really no real reason that Hardy is a good choice for bane.
Yes I'm aware it's a movie, and I'm under no illusion that Tom Hardy was the best choice for Bane; however I happen to think it was a good choice. Why? The man is a solid actor and his previous work in Bronson supports the notion that he has the potential to play Bane very effectively.

For everyone...whether you are pro-Bane costume or not...at least we're getting Bane as a real character and not some sideshow thug! Though...I love that sound effect when he whips the neon painted guys over his shoulder in Batman and Robin. A true "Must Use" for Nolan I hope

+1 :)

The joker never had white makeup, and Ras a Ghul was actually immortal, not just in theory. Different world than the comics.

I think that is just the tactical/bulletproof vest we are seeing him wear under his coat. It just looks black because of the lighting and shadows.

The Joker argument is a tired argument that holds no weight in this...

Why do we need Bane to be a Shakespearean actor? Get a big, hulking guy to play him. Arnold was one of the most intimidating villians in Terminator with barely any lines. Tom Hardy as Bane is like Daniel Day Lewis playing Thor. I think Nolan can get a decent performance from a guy with muscles.

Also, we don't need another compelling villain overshadowing Batman again.

Yeah ok,. Ras a Ghul, then did not look like Liam Neeson, bathed in the lazarus pit to stay immortal, thats the way he is supposed to be, but yet he wasn't according to Nolan.

everyone is talking about how bane's voice will be muffled by the mask. i am wondering if nolan might go bold and have bane be silent the whole movie. maybe he communicates by his gestures only?

Again, I think this is a preference issue with regards to who should have been casted as Bane. I'm fine with sacrificing a little height and mass for a sense of unrelenting dominance and power over an opponent. Not that you're incorrect - I just don't see it as that big of a deal.

I am going out on a limb, but I am guessing Bane will have alot of lines, and will have alot to his character. Bane is highly intelligent, equal to Batman. He is not a mindless robot, who just walks around killing people. So a great actor is a must.

Nolans movies are set in the real reality(kinda).
People aren't immortal in real life.
People don't fall into vats of chemiclas and come out with white skin and green hair in real life either.

But do you know what DOES happen?
People can be over 5'9. :cwink:

I think everything ultimately comes down to preference. I prefer a Bane more in line with the comics.

Voice over. Spidey style.

You mean like Batman & Robin? The reason you pick a Shakespearean actor is because Bane is supposed to be a smart character.

If Bane is written as a smart character, that's how it will be portrayed by the actor. Regardless of which actor is in the part...

Bane can be a few inches shorter than Batman.. show me in a comic book where Bane stood next to batman like an ant lol...

I have faith in Nolan's vision of the film.. I think Nolan knows what hes doing as far as who he wanted Bane to be.. and he chose Tom Hardy for a reason...
So far Nolan put together 2 great batman films.. unsure why people think this one wont be as good cause of how Tom Hardy is dressed in his stature lol..

seems like everyone thinks Bane should be huge like this..

Exactly. Like I've said before, I'm very happy with Tom and I love the new set photos, but I would have loved to see this man as Bane...

I don't care what anyone says, Dwayne could have easily owned the role if it's written properly (and it most likely is). He can play a bad-ass no problem, ever seen Faster?
