The Dark Knight Rises Tom Hardy as Bane XVII

Dear god, this. It's getting obnoxious now. Apparently anyone who's a regular here is blind and kissing Nolan's feet... There's no content or debate to our posts, we're all a wild pack of wolves who bites the heads off of anyone that criticizes Nolan or disagrees with us.

When I tried to gently bring up the notion that the notion that someone can be a fan of Nolan, be inclined to trust his creative decisions based on the strength of his past work, and yet still be capable of individual, rational critical thought earlier today, it was treated like I'd suggested an aneurysm-inducing paradox.

Yeah, I'm not sure how people came to the conclusion that it was the Batcave? I thought we'd had that dismissed since the teaser that it was the sewers, if not some underground tunnel of sorts.

It's not valid. It's childish, idiotic and immature. Don't try to twist it around.

Jeez. This Batman person must be serious business.

The thing is, Nolan's Bane looks better and more badass than any comic version of him, and the gas mask thing is genius.

I prefer this one myself:

Great post. I think, if you can't enjoy the movie or Hardy's performance because you're fixating on Bane's height, the problem's more with you than the film. I don't think the "less-than-giant Bane = Joker without white face/green hair" argument really holds water. Those using it cleverly smudge together their definitions, marking out the specific quibble of height and the more general requirement of physical dominance into a single trait, as if you can't have one without the other. Yes, a Bane who wasn't a physical powerhouse wouldn't be Bane, and that is a valid comparison to The Joker's white face and green hair. But specifically noting that his HEIGHT is essential to the character is like saying The Joker's height is essential, or Scarecrow's height is essential. Both are well over 6 foot in the comics. Both were played by actors under 6 foot in the movies. And in neither case did I even notice, never mind let it detract from their respective performances.

Exactly.

Love how Bane looks in the recent photos. Also love the comments from Nolan and Hardy. Sounds like they understand the character a lot better than we thought.

Jeez. This 'acting' thing must be serious business too. Because I actually judge an actor based on his acting. Not his ability to alter his height to suit my every fetishtic whim.

Why don't some you guys actually offer something constructive, instead of just shrugging off the debate as childish and stupid?

I have no idea!!! It's like all the amount of amazing stuff we got today mae everyone nuts.

Sad Tommy is sad.

It's bad enough when the basement dwellers here start levelling all kinds of misogynistic bile against Hathaway. But to just write off Hardy because of his height is disgusting. Perhaps not as disgusting as the 'HATHAWAY'S BREASTS ARE TOO SMALL! LULZ!!!111!!' comments, but still utterly disgusting.

And I really mean that, disgusting. The idiocy and rampant elitism here makes me want to hurl. Especially when people are so blinkered and myopic that they don't see anything wrong with what they're saying.

Hey, I agree, especially about the misogyny.

Although to be fair, there have been times where people got steamrollered for making valid criticisms and that is equally as silly as nitpicking the hell out of everything.

There are plenty of rational people here though. ;)

I just thought I'd mention if people want to see a true comics purist in action, they should head over to the Superman boards and talk to Kurosawa about the new suit. If you like it you're an anti-Semite who hates Superman and the whole genre. The Bat fans are SO forgiving.

Yeah but I somehow doubt the rational people get put in posistions of authority. Whereas the nitpicking scumbags somehow get the power to say whatever they want.
Shows what kind of place this is.

I agree with all of that, you just sound like you're quite upset. I'm sure the movie will be glorious.

Marx, this is getting alittle out of hand.

Bane's depiction here is not one of a mere mortal. Hardy bulked up for this role (far more than Warrior). In addition to that, Nolan has infused camera trickery, lifts, custom designed clothing, etc. Tom and Christopher pulled out all of the stops for the sake of size.

Nevertheless, I don't see the disappointment here as a Bane fan myself if Bane were just 6'2 and not wearing a Luchador mask. I'm delighted to see this Bane, in fact, and it's not because I'm a 'Nolanite'.

Frankly, that term and explanation is getting tedious. Joel, himself, could have been responsible for Bane's design and I'd still welcome it with open arms. That, however, is not the point nor case here.

Perspectively, this is a radical departure, in a sense but what matters to me is Tom's performance and Nolan's direction with the character.

...What?

The Supes boards have been bat**** for a long time. I used to occasionally lurk though but ended up backing the hell away.

I'm upset because these so-called fans treat the actors like pieces of meat. Do they even care how much work Hardy, Hathaway and Bale put into their performances? No, how silly, of course not. That would imply that they had emotions and feelings and weren't just robotic actions figures on an assembly line.

That guy is something else. I'll give him that :lmao:.

Me too. :(

It's depressing that many 'fans' are upset about a trunkless Superman...

I'm eagerly awaiting MOS but damn that board can be 10x crazier than this place at times.

Yeah and yet a trunkless Batman on film has worked since 1989.

There probably was fans complaining about it back in 1989. Although they were probably drowned out by the more angry protests of Michael Keaton's casting.

But the difference is that Batman's suit was all-black, which looks fine without the trunks.

For me I'm glad Nolan is taking the route he is. I don't want to see a 8 foot tall Bane. Nolan's Gotham is pretty grounded for the most part. And I really appreciate his perspective on the material. I prefer it to the over the top whimsical scenery of past directors.

I think Hardy's intensity is going to make up for any lack of visual intimidation.

Bane was always meant to be Batman's equal. So being the same height would work just fine for me.
