Supergirl Tyler Hoechlin IS Superman - Part 2

Tyler looked like he was loving playing Evil Supermaj, I think his performance was great.

Superman's role in the crossover was to once again say how much better Kara is then him and then retire. They could've done a better job then what they did.

I keep hearing people talk about his retirement, when he clearly didn't completely retire. He said he was gonna hang up his cape for a while and for good reason, his missus is pregnant and they need to go away to have the baby. He knows Earth will be safe as Kara is there but him clearly saying "maybe a little longer than that" when Kara assumed he'd be gone 9 months didn't make it seem like he off to live on Argo.

This actually works out well for the show, now people won't ask Wheres Superman everytime something bad happens and they can bring him back for next years crossover of they do wish. Also a Rebirth inspired spin off writes itself and actually makes me think a TV series with Hoechlin as Superman could be even more likely.

Yeah I don't get this thing about him retiring. He and Lois will be taking a sabbatical in Argo leaving Earth in Supergirl's hands unless something major happens.

A Superman series may as well happen since WB isn't pursuing anymore Superman movies.

Yeah, I don't see how it is unreasonable for Superman to take paternity leave, combined with the 9 months at Argo.

He will likely be back for Crisis, though.

Only way Supergirl ends is if Melissa wants to move on, which seems like a real possibility since she's the only Arrowverse lead who's been doing legit projects outside of Supergirl. She seems like she's interested in having a career beyond this role.
Melissa is defiantly positioning herself for her career post Supergirl. I don’t see her signing a new contract once her current one ends, but I don’t see her breaking her contract and ending the show. Presumably as lead her contract is seven years. Actors do have to maintain their professional reputations and breaking a contract without cause would be a huge hit to her reputation. Absent behind the scenes problems, not an issue with this show, it’s practically unheard of for a lead to break a contract effectively ending a show before the network is ready to do so. Add to that the fact that Berlanti is going out of his way to accommodate Melissa’s other work I just don’t see her breaking her contract as a good career move on her part and every move she’s made tells me she’s too smart to do this. So I agree that the show will go on as long as she’s under contract.

Here’s what I think the current state of the Supergirl cast is contract wise. It’s my understanding that everyone but the lead is offered contracts for three years or less and the preference is to keep everyone on the same cycle. I think Chyler, David, Mehcad, Katie, and Jessie were offered three year contracts before the start of this season and my gut says they took them. The two I was most concerned about were Chyler and David because they have families. David especially was given an out and to a lesser degree so was Chyler. They didn’t take those outs, that makes me think they're in this as long as possible. J’onn seems to be doing fine outside the DEO and Alex has dropped the having a kid right now arc. At this point their families must have adjusted to them filming in Vancouver and it would be more of a disturbance if they bowed out.

Yeah, well I would not be too sure about a superman series just yet. Just because they have no active plans for him on film does not necessarily mean that they would allow him to star in his own series.

Plus, by the time they do decide to give Superman his own show, who is to say that Tyler and the actress that played Lois will be available?

If the future newspaper in the time vault is of any indication, we know that Green Arrow, Supergirl, Batwoman, and Atom will be present for the crisis event in Central City.

I am sure that the Legends will not be far off but I do not expect Superman to return.

I mean do you guys want to see him back just so that he can look clueless again in a room full of heroes while getting his ass handed to him by every villain? For a guy called "Superman", he does not come off so super.

Unless Tyler was officially scheduled to get his own show after the crisis then I would feel safe since that means that he would not be treated as a standby character anymore.

It’s the god damn amount of posts he does that drives me up the wall.

Honestly you’d think Superman fans had it bad but we really don’t. Green lantern fans have it bad for example they have slim pickings to choose from. We have a **** ton of Superman content to choose form including an animated sequel to the best god damn Superman animated film ever coming in New Year.

CW does make Superman look weak compared to Supergirl. However if it looked like the world could not get along without Superman could he be sent off to Argo? The cw is tied up with Supergirl. I suspect if Superman had his own show he would not be so depicted as not needed.

So both Superman AND Batman in the Arrowverse retired the cape/cowl to their cousins. Well ain't that a B....

Pretty sure Batman is off doing something constructive, like investigating an upcoming Crisis, or trapped in time or...something.

Actually I do see Superman returning as it's going to be really strange to do Crisis without him and Lois.

I want to see Superman returning so that I want to see him fighting not only for Earth, but mainly for Lois and their child.

that's the one thing I don't like. I get it's her show, but making Superman say stuff like "I think the world doesn't need Superman if it has Supergirl" or whatever just seems a bit unnecessary and seems to put Superman down in order to prop up Supergirl.

but other than those occasional things, I quite like Tyler's Clark and Superman. his portrayal of both sides of the character is pretty much what my "ideal" version of Superman is.

I also like the new Lois with what little we had to see of her.

When he was left standing in STAR Labs, that felt really awkward. ='D Kara and Barry are off risking their lives, and Oliver is going to see Mar Novu, but not before telling Superman to get the book. Everyone had a game plan, but the superhero veteran barely had any input.

I hear there was a deleted scene where he said "Mr Stark, Mr Stark, what shall I do?" :o

I hated that line of the world doesn’t need a Superman as it was unnecessary. Otherwise why bring him in if they felt that way?

About that Star Labs where he was left standing while everyone else ran off. That reminds me of Kingdom Come as there was a similar scene as Superman was left standing while Wonder Woman and the other heroes went off. I can imagine Superman flying to Gotham City to confront Batwoman and needing her help to deal with Dark Superman.

Yeah, like I've said before....I really don't have any issues with the concept of Superman/Clark giving motivational pep talks to people that really need them.

However, what bothers me the most here is that you can smell the writer's motives behind the lines written for Clark whenever he tells Kara the (now) infamous "you're stronger than me" line.

It's no different from whenever we have Iris tell Barry: "You're not the Flash Barry, WE are".

I mean at the end of the day, most of these shows are written by SJW-Misguided Feminists who feel the need to lower their male characters or make them seem irrelevant so that they can validate the existence of some of their female leads.

I still hate how Tyler's Superman looked like a rookie in the Star Labs scene and of course he had to be written in a way where he lacked faith in Kara's and Barry's ability to overcome their presumed destinies. The idea that Oliver feels like he knows Kara well enough that she could overcome it when Clark didn't, that's such B.S. right there.

Tyler's Superman feels more like Kara's predecessor as opposed to being the "Granddaddy of Superheroes".

Yeah, Superman's humbleness and modesty is one of the many things that makes him great. But guess what folks? If he was just known for only those things, then there's no way in hell that he'd be considered one of the world's greatest superheroes, let alone one of the DC Trinity. There are PLENTY of other heroes within the DC universe that exhibit those traits.

The only thing you are smelling is what you are imagining yourself.

And frankly, I don't understand the issue with Clark being shaken and Oliver not. Clark actually saw what was going to happen. I am willing to bet that seeing in the book of destiny is a bit more convincing then being told about. Also, Oliver did end up believing it.

Yeah, Clark just saw a loved one die. Oliver just heard that his friendly acquaintances may die. Not remotely the same thing.

Clark saw Kara and Barry’s deaths from the book and Oliver sided with Clark there. Let’s also not forget that Oliver also saw the 2024 headline with Barry in the Invasion crossover as well.

Also Oliver didn’t say he knows Kara well better than Clark, but knows Barry very well.

A lot of people, including myself, have noted on how Supergirl (the show) is somewhat infamous for making their male characters look incompetent in order to validate some of their female characters.

On another note, I still don't get what the purpose was for the exchange between Deagon (now in his new Superman body) and Kara in her holding cell. He was talking about how he wanted to reach godhood and wanted to be what Supergirl was, yet he chose Superman's body.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, Oliver knew the power that the book possessed thus believed that Barry and Kara would die IF something wasn't changed, hence why he approached the Monitor and had faith in himself (and others) that he could change their fates. Whereas Superman looked lost and unsure of what do and didn't have any plans of how to tackle the problem until Oliver gave him instructions.

Honestly guys my suggestion to you is to NOT read any posts that bother you or put the user on ignore, it'll make life so much easier.

As for CW's superman, well as I said before I really like his personality but honestly after watching this crossover I'm still at loss as to why superman was there in the first place, he did nothing! It would've been nice if he contributed something like beat his evil doppelganger or maybe even beat Amazo, anything! They came close to giving him something good to do when they showed that he was the only one who could read and use the book.......and then that went to crap.
The good thing is that Superman is going to leave earth and hopefully this will be the last we'll ever see him until they find him something useful to do.

I disagree that he did nothing in Part 1 he was the bullet they thought would take down Amazo, it didn’t work but then they couldn’t have held Amazo there without him. He also was there as support for Kara in Part 1 when she needed to have that talk about her quitting the DEO.

Part Three he was the one they gave the book too as the others couldn’t rewrite reality, he was the one who had the knowledge of the scripture too as he stated in the Fortress to Barry and Oliver.

You know what I think Superman was a victim of in this episode, the budget. I think we didn’t get to see him do as much in red and blue (I’ll admit that bothered me too) because they didn’t have the money for it. So part three most of his FX stuff was done with the Black Suit version.

But then think of this he got scenes on the Smallville Farm, we even got a scene or him and Lois in the Fortress. To me that felt as much a back door pilot as Batwomans stuff in Part Two did which I also think she didn’t get enough to do (weird I’m not hearing people complain about that much).

Dare I say I think Kara actually got more of the shaft this crossover than anyone.
