Who do you want to see as Captain Marvel? - Part 1

Blunt looks great with the Chrises
*fingers crossed*

No joke, I think it's probably a done deal. Been saying that for awhile.

So do I, to an extent. If she doesn't have the role, I expect she's at least in late talks. She seems to know too much about it for someone who hasn't at least spoken with Marvel. I expect we'll see her in Age of Ultron

FWIW, I remember back in 2011, there were pictures of Anne Hathaway chatting up with Bale at the Golden Globes and literally a few days later, we heard that she screen-tested for Catwoman (and got the part eventually).

Then again, Blunt (and Krasinski) are pretty social and are friends with almost everyone relevant in Hollywood so it might just be that. Simple socialization.

Or maybe not.

Pretty sure she whispered "Hail Hydra" there. :o

In other news, Rosamund Pike was there as well and looks just as amazing. She's another one that I strongly support for Carol.

Why is Steve smiling? what is Carol telling him? :wow:

Probably: "You make a much hotter Captain America than my husband"

She's one of the few on this list that I think could pull off the role.

Oh also

I've seen pages of people saying "Blunt woulda been a better widow" "wish blunt was natasha" etc

What about Emily Blunt screams Black Widow to everyone here??
She's not a redhead, never played a spied that I can think of, and doesn't have a particularly tough-chick look to her like I would typically picture BW, and her acting prowess means she could pull off anyone else equally as well.

So what precisely makes her so well qualified for Natasha as opposed to carol?
honest question, not being defensive or anything

It's not about whether she's a red head. It's not like if she had red hair that would automatically qualify for her the role. It's Blunt's facial features and her general personality and British acting talent that gives her a certain measure of seriousness and gravitas that would be perfect for someone like Natasha.

She has a soulful face that, even without saying anything, just gives the impression that she could have had a past like Natasha and suffered through heartache, having to endure years of discipline, becoming hardened etc. ScarJo has a more open and somewhat innocent and fresh face which actually suits Yelena Belova more as someone who is wanting to ascend the ranks and hasn't seen as much pain and destruction as Natasha. Emily just conveys more complexity in her face.

Even if Blunt were to take over the Widow role in a few years, say when she's in her 40s, that would add even more to the idea that Natasha has had a difficult past and isn't necessarily proud of what she's had to do as a spy, and Blunt's face could sell that perfectly with her eyes and the subtle nuances in her face.

And I see that in her even when she's more blonde. That's why it's not whether she has red hair or not. But give her red hair, and she looks perfect for Tasha.

I see Carol as more idealistic and therefore requiring an actress who looks less as if she's had a past that has made her hardened and of which she is not proud. I would take Charlize Theron over Blunt in that regard, although my first choice for Carol is Yvonne Strahovski.

OMG this thread, with your Emily Blunt pictures and gifs and the pictures from the Critics Choice Awards last night when she was hanging out with the MC(hrises)U boys….

STAHP TEASING MEEEEEEEE!!!

ETA: as much as I ADORE the crap out of Blunt, I actually never pictured her as Black Widow. I think it's got as much to do with her acting style, which is great and acclaimed, and that she should really play someone where she can play a whole spectrum of emotions. I think Scarlett works so perfectly in the role b/c her "innocent" demeanor turns icy/sultry/aloof/mysterious when necessary, and she just comes across really well as a stone-cold assassin whose allegiances remain mysterious. Widow should have a twenty-four hour poker face, IMO, that only crumbles around a very, very select few people. Which was why SJ and Widow were so darn effective for me in TWS; all the private moments with Steve Rogers brought out her vulnerable, playful side while she remained impassive with others. Scarlett played each side of Widow perfectly.

That all said, I think Carol Danvers (Or Jessica Drew… or Jennifer Walters) is a much better suited role for Blunt, where she can play a wider range.

I campaigned for months on this board (and elsewhere) for D'Onofrio as Kingpin and it happened. Ipso fatso, if I do the same for Blunt as Captain Marvel it shall come to pass. Flawless logic, no?

Well, natural hair color is virtually irrelevant (or else Scarlett Johansson would be excluded). To me, she has a face that resembles Natasha in the comics - at least the versions I'm familiar with, such as the way Joe Quesada drew her in Guardian Devil.

In addition, I don't think she should look like a tough chick. To me, that's not what Black Widow is about. Instead, she should look like someone who is flexible, sneaky, acrobatic, etc. I think she'd be a fine Carol Danvers (so my thought that she would be a great Black Widow isn't "as opposed to" Captain Marvel), but Danvers is someone you want to be a tough chick. She's a lot more bold and straight-forward. Although I describe her tentatively since I'm nowhere near as familiar with her.

And Blunt wasn't really good as a "tough chick" in Edge of Tomorrow? Man, I wouldn't have wanted to mess with her (unless she was amenable to the idea).

EDIT: Read closer....gotcha. I just think that Blunt is such a good actor, with so much range, that she can play just about anything.

She's either saying my husband would have been a better Cap, or I should have accepted Widow or Carter cos turns out they are pretty good roles.

I did try and find a link between the two, or between Krasinski and Evans to see if they'd worked together and they haven't, which all but confirms Blunt as Carol, cos there is no way they could have met outside work :o

On my search I did find this classic bit of comic fan reaction

Blunt's going to be working with Hemsworth on The Huntsman, so that's another Marvel connection... Sort of :oldrazz:

I don't disagree with that. I think she'd make for a good Carol Danvers. I also think Johansson made for a good Natasha Romanoff. I just think Blunt would have made for an even better Romanoff. I don't know why people seem to think praise for Blunt as making a great Black Widow means that I'm implying she would be a poor Captain Marvel.

I agree. It's like, in another example, could Patrick Stewart have made a good Magneto? Definitely. He certainly has the range for it, and with a hairpiece he may not be that different from Ian McKellan. But he makes the perfect Professor X. Same with Tom Hiddleston. Could he have been a good Thor? Definitely. He's a better actor than Chris Hemsworth. But Hiddleston is much better as Loki, and Hemsworth looks more like Thor.

Blunt can undoubtedly do well as Danvers, but she would've been perfect as Natasha.

I could not agree more!

You know someone mentioned taylor swift a few months ago and although I wouldn't exactly support it if she got the role I just can't get that idea out of my head

Every actor says that they would be willing to play in a Marvel film, it's not a big deal.
