Wonder Woman Box Office Speculation Thread - Part 1

Can a female superhero reach the heights of Superman and Batman?

How much do you expect the first major female superhero movie to bring in?

The absolute best case OW scenario I can see is like this:

Previews: 12-14M
Friday: 35M
Saturday: 42M
Sunday: 36M

for around 130M OW. That feels like the highest it can reach. But if reviews are really good and it catches fire with the female demo, I can see it breaking out big.

I think everyone is being too conservtive with this, but in a lot of ways that works by taking pressure off. I think a lot of people are going to be surprised how well this actually does.

I think this might do a Hunger Games breakout if the reviews are outstanding

I see more people are getting confident and picking the 600-800 million option! I should have picked that option but I voted too early lol

It would have if the month was not crowded.

And again it really isnt that crowded. The Mummy is tracking low and I dont see Cars 3 doing much. WW should be fine until Transformers (if reviews are good) and even then will still be in the top 4.

@Marz69

Boxoffice.com projected WW at 83M initially, then they adjusted it to 90 the second time on Thurs.

The wrap, THR and Deadline reported independent trackings are around 65M last week, may increase to 75M this week, and one tracker was showing 100+ instead of 65M.

Then people divided into 4 groups, the optimistically conservatives happy with 65 OW, the meltdown group that think it's not accurate, the growth group that think tracking grows week by week so it's normal, and the hater group that craps on WW.

After the critics twitter reactions came out, people are adjusting their estimates much higher now, more 100M+ guesses and "it might breakout you know" type comments.

I am sticking with my 135M, and 150M+ IF it gets an Avengers, TDK or JW phenomenon.

HG got 151M OW, did 400M DOM at the end, that's 2.66? Weak OS though.

"Although tracking is comparable to Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, we’re beginning to slightly lower expectations for The Mummy based on mixed reactions to trailers. If Wonder Woman breaks out in the way that we think it could one week earlier, that also will work against the reboot’s prospects"

WW adjusted from 90 to 93M in the space of a few days!!

I think that it will have a solid but not great OWE and very good legs.
Around 250m in the US and 700 ww.

The estimates are getting closer to $100m!

What if it surprises everyone and hits 170

Everything is possible when alchemy rises between the character, the actress and the public.
The same thing happened with Christpher Reeve's Superman and Michael Keaton's Batman.

Guys let's not over predict. WW may well beat the MOS OW but I don't think even in the best case scenario, it's gonna beat Skwad's OW. At best I see 120-125 Million. Which will be a great result.

I want it to be a hit so WB green lights more CB movies of difficult kinds and for it to continue with it's vision. Different is always nice

Why? Random people making predictions on a web site have no bearing on anything...

You are right, I shouldn't be a killjoy. I should be optimistic for a great breakout OW for WW. :) :)

I do hope if the movie is as fantastic as folks are saying it is, it smashes records at the BO. Also I'll hope the sequel is fast tracked because of a good BO run.

Pressure? Is the film going to get nervous and underperform at the box office if too many superhero forum members are expecting it to do big numbers? :woot:

Thing is, and I dont know maybe its just me, but I dont feel a hunger or any kind of hype for the Mummy movie. I think the Mummy is just going to be a film that kind of comes and goes without anyone really paying it any mind, like King Arthur.

It looks like a decently entertaining movie but I dont see peopel going gaga over it. WW on the other hand, I think the public is ready for a DC film they can really sink their teeth into.
