Apocalypse X-Men: Apocalypse Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 1

I think 650 mill would be disappointing considering the reported budget for this

DoFP did 233 domestic and 513 OS for a 747 total.

My prediction for XMA is 200 domestic and 450 OS for a 650 total. A small dip, but nothing to be disappointed over.
A 100m is a small dip? :funny:

@JenLawFilms #XMenApocalypse opened with an estimated $103.3m overseas (w/o China and S. Korea)
+68% Over FC
-14.87% Under DOFP
If I am reading this right, this is a 15% drop from DoFP in those territories. That isn't good at all. Are people not reading this stuff?

Considering how harsh some of the critics have been compared to DOFP it does make you wonder whether that had any impact, this franchise isn't transformers after all.

audences aren't agreeing with critics.there is plenty of postive reaction on
social media.

I always felt the chances were good apocalypse would do less than
DOFP at least domesticly.Audences and critics don't always agree.Apocalypse
looks to be one of those times.some think First Class is best or one of top X-men films yet that is lowest grossing of the 6 main X-men films.and first class is second best reviewed X-Men film.

Anything below DOFP could be considered a disappointment considering the budget. Again, you don't spend more money to make less money.

I watched this last nigh here in Greece,. and it had a packed house,. so thats somethign i guess lol

Appereantly that was with Korea (for DoFP) and now there is no Korea.
So the opening for DoFP is 100 million in those 75 territories, while for XMA is 103 million.
That's the way I understood it. :woot:

Appereantly that was with Corea (for DoFP) and now there is no Corea.
So the opening for DoFP is 100 million in those 75 territories, while for XMA is 103 million.

Is it opening totals, or opening in these specific territories?

Opening in 64% of the international marketplace, the latest installment in the X-Men franchise blasted off with $103.3M to best the debut of X-Men: Days Of Future Past in the same suite of 75 markets and at today’s exchange rates. That film ultimately grossed $514M overseas and $748M worldwide. North America opens next weekend on XMA with Korea going May 25, China on June 3 and Japan on August 11.

Upon awakening after thousands of years, Apocalypse, the first mutant (played by franchise newcomer Oscar Isaac) sets out to destroy the world aided by his four horsemen. The X-Men gang old and new must come together to thwart his plans. Returning to the series are James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne and Evan Peters, among others. New players include Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan and Olivia Munn. Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine also appears in a cameo.

That actually makes it read like it did better then DoFP. So that would be good.

Your point?

As if we need to always compare this franchise's accomplishments/milestones to the other (more) successful franchise.

Civil war was always going to be the biggest comic book film of 2016.I long before said out of 3 big comic films-it,BVS,Apocalypse-that it was going to be
the biggest of 2016.With it basicly an avengers film it would gross 400 million
domesticly and over a billion WW.

It says there were over 20k screens.
Is 103 mil good for 20k screens?

.

Reviews have affected box office before, excluding the transformer movies somehow, but overall there has been comments with people saying they read reviews and dunno if they should go see it and then there are gonna be some that decided to pirate it instead because of the reviews ect ect, i mean BVS might have broke a billion if reviews had been better.

if it has affected the box office at all, it hasn't affected it much considering DOFP got good reviews and Apocalypse has come out with some reviews claiming its the worst one ever, so it does make you wonder what if reviews had been better.

In real money, I do think the 15% drop is right. However, that article is comparing it with the current exchange rates. So, some growth in tickets sold, if not in actual money made. The dollar is stronger now than it was 2 years ago, so that will have an impact on the foreign takes. I think other films have seen this already this year.

Seems like a decent start. Looking forward to checking it out next Sunday.

Oh, okay, that makes sense. We ran into this with Star Wars, as the exchange rate isn't want it was around the world only a few years ago.

If that prediction proves right I feel while some will go online and declare Apocalypse a failure that will be good enough for fox to press ahead with
it's present plans for expanded X-men shared universe.

I can see if SInger returns for next full X-men film and it is indeed based
on Phoenix as every indication seems to be that is where they are intending to go to that fox will want a lower budget that the 234 million they spent on
Apocalypse and the 200 million plus on DOFP.

Personaly i feel reducing budget may be one of reasons gambit is being
rewritten and filming pushed back till end of year.

One way to spend less on next full X-men film is not to get Jennifer Lawrence back. But,I'm sure if she doesn't come back the haters will
find something else to moan about.next it will probally be too much focus is on cyclops and Jean and not enough on Storm and Jubilee:woot:

A $180 million film for a X-Men film featuring Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Nightcrawler, Jubilee, Professor X, Mr. Sinister and a couple of Marauders like Vertigo, Scalphunter, Prism and Blockbuster is possible, I think. And they could also fire Nicholas Hoult then just recast him with a better actor with a lower salary. So basically, its just James McAvoy that would need to renew a contract. And in terms of the usage of VFX, I think there's always a smart way to produce good visual effects without spending too much money.

Its okay, but this should have been way higher IMO! They got the goodwill from DOFP and Deadpool. Plus it got an IMAX release which DOFP didn't have and ticket prices increased since 2014.

No, ticket prices have actually gone down across the world I believe. This was mentioned with Star Wars. Exchange rates are falling.

Also, a bit under half of the territories are doing better than DOFP. Granted, those could be small territories, but not exactly world ending news. It does look to be struggling a bit in Europe, though.

Wait, didn't DoFP had IMAX screenings? At least OS?

It has a China release date right?
