Apocalypse X-Men: Apocalypse Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 2

Oh dear. So the early projection from deadline was 90 million and now its 82 million.

Oh well. Given by the reviews, competition and the cast for this. I'm not surprised. So much for the momentum and goodwill from Days of Future past and Deadpool!

At least it is doing better than Alice which is a mega flop. Apocalypse should still do 600-700 WW which would make it the second best in the franchise (I am not really counting Deadpool).

Dissapointed at would be 82 million four day gross for Apocalypse... The A- Cinema Score makes me happy. Shows that the reviewers were wrong. My guess is the number will keep dropping every update just like the FF update dropped every update. I'd take a 70 million four day and run with it right now if they got that option. Haha.

To compare it to Politics. I'm a demographics is destiny guy. Momentum means nothing. Each state is different.

When it comes to movies. Just because two in a row had great reviews does not necessarily imply the next one will get any benefit from it. Jmo. So no, I'm not one of those that think Fox blew an opportunity.

But there will be a lot of think pieces because of this debut.

The fanboy movies almost always get inflated Cinema Scores. Make no mistake Apocalypse will fall off of a cliff in it's second weekend.

Fox should have progressed the series and did something new. Instead they let the good reviews and box office of DOFP go to their heads and now Apocalypse is looking like the old hat that it is and under performing. Even with good reviews I didn't think it would outdo the 235 million DOFP did but I do think it could have gotten close if the film gave us something interesting and new to chew on. And no cheesy looking Power Rangers villain Apocalypse is not a real hook.

X3 also got A- from Cinemascore, so I don't think it means much.

Where are people getting the A- Cinemascore?

The one I quoted was for Alice.

Edit: My bad. Looks like they added the Cinemascore for Apocalypse for their "3rd Update, at 8:48PM."

"Apocalypse demos were similar to Days of Future Past: 60% males showed up with 58% over 25. Sixty-one percent of those watching X-Men did so because they love the property, while 28% came out for the actors and 24% came out to watch Jennifer Lawrence and Olivia Munn. Hugh Jackman was a bigger draw on Days of Future Past at 32%. The under 18 demo at 22% loved Apocalypse the most with an A."

Thanks for the deadline link Manila.

Here's the quote from the Deadline article.

CinemaScore is an A-, which is less than Days of Future Past‘s A, but whips those poor reviews. Alice Through the Looking Glass is still looking at $30.9M over FSS and $9M for today. CinemaScore audiences loved it as much as the 2010 film with an A-.
Both got an A-, which again means nothing.

Whats the cinemascore rating for Apocalypse?

EDIT: NVm, I See Spidey already posted it.

Yea these Cinemascores never really help much with predicting these things especially for this franchise.

That A score for DOFP sadly didn't help with the movie declining 64% it's second weekend.

A lot of these films are just front loaded even with good word of mouth. Blockbusters these days are just more front loaded and the front loading gets worst when the word of mouth is mixed or bad. I'll be surprised if Apocalypse's word of mouth isn't mixed.

I think it will do a little more that first class domestically total overall. But hey First Class got a sequel.

I picked over 700 million but i think those 17 that picked 600 million will be right. 160 Domestic. 440 Foreign. 600 total.

Have you seen it SPIDEY?

And yeah, the vast majority of blockbusters are frontloaded. Even the biggest earners.

Yes I have and I come down on the it's okay/middle of the road camp. The actors are fine, the dialogue is fine but the story is thin and the plotting tired and rehashy and Apocalypse looks silly on the big screen as well. What a waste of Oscar Iaasc. Also I thought most of the visual effects were lack luster and I still don't care for how Singer films action.

The Cast doesn't count as a negative given and the good will is ok till everyone gets low expectations because of the mixed reviews and most only see mixed reviews as bad reviews because we live in a very negative world.

Nowadays, if you don't get at least a 80 or above score in RT, people think it's bad. AOU only got 75% or so and it is dismissed as a sub par movie.

Hell look at the Captain American Civil War RT thread and look at the people still complaining even though its in the 90s.

there is no sugar coating it.82 million over 4 days is disappointment.of course alice is looking like even more of a disappointment.

Apocalypse was never going to do business DOFP did.If fox really spent 178 million on film then they thought so too.Return of the original cast helped
DOFP.Also critics hating on apocalypse did affect box office.EW gives alice
better review than apocalypse.if that doesn't show critics had it in for apocalypse i don't know what will.

Bryan Singer should take the blame for everything. Started when he released to the media a pic of Ivan instead of Apocalypse, he even admit that he was wrong to send that pic. He was too arrogant and the critics hated that.

Singer certainly made one step longer than his leg but the main problem comes from Kinberg's bad writing imo.
