Comparing comic book movies to other comic book movies is natural. Of course there will be comparisons, just as you compare other sci fi movies to each other, horror etc. they're in a genre so comparisons are expected.

Some reviewers didn't like them in this movie, like Peter Suderman, who also thought McAvoy gave a flat, unconvincing performance.

He actually said that BOTH McAvoy and Fassbender gave flat performances, he didn't single out McAvoy. And he blames the script, which seems to be the consensus.

I still think McAvoy is amazing no matter what. His enthusiasm for the character is always palpable. But he and the other actors deserved better material to work with.

Coming from someone i remember at one point talking about how good sunspots performance was in DOFP, yeah i'd say mcavoy did a good job ;p

Its interesting how each individual perceives acting and performance since there has been a few twitter comments, not many but maybe the the odd 2 or 3 that i can remember who seemed to believe all the cast were phoning it in except for issac.

Yeah it is interesting. I thought the performances were quite good and everyone was charming. Admittedly, I think Oscar Isaac was pretty "love it or hate it" and Jennifer Lawrence was serviceable but other than that I thought the cast put on good performances.

James was solid, but the script failed him.

All things considered, the Wed numbers for Apocalypse held up relatively good. And the Thur was a pretty good increase for the holiday, nearly doubled Wed number. I think it can still be BvS's second weekend, which with all the competition and loss of screens, is a major victory.

Because Warcraft has Chinese company investing in it. They have all IMAX screening and most of the screening times. But it seems after fans complaining and some effort from Fox China, the screening numbers for XMA are increased a bit.

Warcraft would be big anyway since many people in China used to play the game. But Apocalypse does pretty well at the moment.

I believe its currently at around 82 million in China. It should be close to 100M after Sunday. Still has almost 3 weeks left. Should beat DOFP (112M). Most are predicting around 120-130M after everything.

From what I'm reading it has very good WOM. If it had opened a week earlier (Alice) or even 2 weeks earlier (same as most European release date), would have done anywhere between 150-200M.

can we not simply cast some of the Chinese actresses like Kitty Yuqi Zhang or Yun Li from the "The Mermaid" movie for the next X-Men movie and the entire franchise will be saved??? Maybe they should have given the role of Psylocke to a Chinese star?!

Kitty Zhang Yuqi as Miss Sinister or Selene would work?

but it wouldn't hurt the franchise also to make the cast more diverse. Just imagine an Asian character in the franchise who is actually able to speak...whole sentences...with other people thoughout the enitre movie!

You're mocking other people for not being progressive enough but just a couple posts ago suggested they should have hired a Chinese actor to play Psylocke??

But I do agree that the main movies need to stop de-centering characters of colour.

Agreed. In fact, of all the reviews I've read, McAvoy is typically one actor who didn't get mixed reviews. He was either complimented or just not mentioned but rarely criticized.

People seemed to rate Fassbender as epic or flat, but nothing in-between, which is weird. Considering Magneto spent most of the movie floating/brooding silently in a bubble, I say the man did as best he could with what he had.

Lots of bad reviews for JLaw, but honestly...look at what she had to work with. Her character had hardly any arc and most of it was so forced. "I'm not the hero"--"No, I am the hero." Blah.

yeah right, Psylocke is truely the right character to have this debate.

I am actually asking myself if the X-Men movies have to be understood as a form of "progressive racism":
Dominantly white male bodies position themselves centrally on a metaphorical level in the discourse around marginalized minorities while 'minority' actresses/actors are pushed to the side and silenced.
