What positives?

Significant growth in China. Hell, it sounds like it is holding steady despite Warcraft hitting everything. It seems to be steady on other regions, only coming in lower due to the stronger dollar.

Yes, it is a disappointment. But, you don't declare a franchise dead because of one disappointment. This is a 16 year old franchise. It will have its highs and lows. And despite what the marvellites will have you believe, the MCU will have a low point eventually.

Dead might've been a strong word but the franchise definitely needs a reinvention of some kind.

Well you should have said that first because the franchise ain't dead the movie box office performance and critic reviews may be a dissapointment but the franchise is finding success with Deadpool and haven't had bad film since 2009 up until now. Even though I thought Apocalypse was really good it is not the best x-men film nor the worst despite what critics say.

I say take a break, do some hardcore reassessment, and bring in a new creative team. Abandon the time jumps. Focus on the young X-Men, and stop emphasizing the Xavier V. Magneto conflict so much.

It's not just one disappointment. It's 3 films with X-Men in the title within the past ten years. This particular film will hurt the next film called X-Men significantly, even if it gets high reviews. It is going to have to work it's way up again unless it looks or is called something completely different. Even DOFP's success and positive reaction wasn't enough to help Apocalypse.

This is just as bad if not worse then ASM's situation. The only positive light is Deadpool's success will keep it going with confidence. The main IP needs to switch things up, they have no other choice.

Not that it matters much compared to other big markets but the movie is still doing fine here. At the dutch box office it's now down to 3rd with €1,781, 554 euros ($1,960,840 dollars) after three weeks.

With so many new releases each week the theatre count has understandably dropped. But, even so, it's still averaging higher per theatre than the 2nd placed Alice sequel (Warcraft is nr.1).

With EURO 2016 starting today it's hard to tell how the box office earnings will hold up. When Holland are in a tournament (it isn't this year:() it usually does have a negative effect for cinemas.

you got to be kidding me lol

no one has straight up hated this movie some really liked it some thought it was average or been there done that but not on the abysmal levels of hate ASM got

the consensus on XMA is its a decent x men movie just nowhere near as good as dofp and first class

its really no worse than say thor the dark world or age of ultron

Oh it's far worse then both of those haha. But I'm aware of the bias here. This movie has gotten plenty of hate.

DOFP couldn't even hit X3 numbers domestically. The main IP is in trouble and needs a new crew, higher box office and stronger wom rather people want to admit it or not. Just like Spidey did. Otherwise it's gonna continue to fall.

A lot of people liked ASM, I dunno where you are getting the abysmal hate from, if anything SM3 should get that spot.

I don't know whether this has been discussed, but does anyone know why the difference between the box office of the US and the rest of the world?

Does this mean that the US put that much stock into critics reviews?

Or are American superhero comics such a cultural product of the US that the US has an expectation of how an X-Men movie should be done (via the 90s cartoon and the comics which as far as I know never reached peak popularity in other countries) while the rest of the world doesn't have that expectation?

Or are Americans just less tolerant of medicore movies (cos as far as I know from where I come from movies are just a way to pass the time, whether its good or mediocre it doesn't matter).

Or is it not just the US? Is it flopping hard in any other country? Everybody I've talked to in my country found the movie ok to enjoyable. But those who are more Westernised in my country tend to err towards just ok compared to those who are less Westernised.

I was so bored watching Thor and not impressed by AOU, but XMA even with its flaws, I could not stop watching it. To be honest, I have also watched the highly praised Civil War, though it is not a bad movie, I just don't like story so no interests in watching it again.

People has different taste and I am more invested in X-men (movie) characters than MCU characters.

Anyway, as a X-men movie fan, I have done my share watching it 5 times already and today will be the last viewing. I've enjoyed it every single time (but intermission really broke the flow, damn it). And no I am not super rich, probably won't go to cinema for the next couple of months.

Why does this board constantly have to bring up the MCU in a negative light to try and make themselves feel better? It's horribly consistent. Heck, this board even thrashes Deadpool. It's just wreaking of jealousy at this point. X-Men could be your favorite comic series, and you can be ecstatic about First Class, The Wolverine and Deadpool but talk **** about one of the worst received films in the series Apocalypse an you are a "mcu fanatic" hahaha.

We have seen this happen before with this series and others. The franchise isn't dead, but it needs to make changes so it can be more successful. X-Men is better then this and Apocalypse will do the next film no favors. As a fan of X-Men I want it to be more successful and rich with it's character development.

What's to argue? You guys rather have a mediocre reception and a falling box office? Cause that's what you are defending, and X-Men as an IP won't benefit from that at all.

It's the internet and fandom. Views are distorted in general.

However this films reception was a disappointment and there's plenty of proof of that. This series allegedly just got done "fixing ****" brought on by it's previous mistakes. X-Men needs to switch their game up and actually learn from them this time so it won't decrease it's box office anymore. Because if they don't then the sky will be falling very drastically for the IP if the next film is received the same. Cause again, this film did no favors for the next film. That is the where the real trouble is. It's losing the audience and appeal. This isn't Transformers were things are ridiculously critic proof and box office is hitting a billion even with decreasing domestic.

I enjoyed ASM2 but I wasn't gonna act that moving forward would be a good move for the franchise given the drops and lower reception. I didn't exactly love DOFP either, but I can recognize when a film is received well and a series is on the up swing.

Not really, as I said, I don't invest too much in MCU characters, not the present ones and not the new ones. I like Ant man though because I like the actor. And I am not a Cumberbatch fan so I will wait and see how other people react on that one.

That's all it takes sometimes to spook the decision makers.

They'll be thinking that this one was poorly reviewed and has seriously under-performed at the box office, is it a possibility that the next one will flop and cost us money.

I won't be laughing until that sequel is confirmed.

1 word: insecurity:o:oldrazz:

I think this franchise is officially dead with these numbers. I thought it was a terrible idea to bring back Bryan Singer after Matthew Vaughn pumped so much life and energy into this series.

Lol yet his movie is the lowest grossing in the entire franchise including the solo Wolverine films.

For real! Its another uphill battle for this franchise at the box-office.
Back on topic, it did $2 mil on Wed. It is kind of closing the gap between what DOFP was making. Should be interesting to see what the rest of its run will be like.

I don't see the point comparing its daily gross, every day there's a new box-office report. Its not gonna catch up on DOFP. Its already way behind DOFP's total gross in North America and it already got a bigger 2nd weekend drop compare to DOFP. And the next weekend, its gonna get a big drop. And DOFP was sandwiched by Godzilla/Maleficent while this one is being sandwiched by films like Angry Birds, Out of the Shadows, Alice 2, Warcraft... not exactly box-office juggernauts.
