Apocalypse X-Men Apocalypse News and Discussion - Part 2

DOFP was more about Xavier,Magneto, and to some degree Mystique than Wolverine.

Contuning the X-Men films besides FC always focus all the attention on Wolverine doesn't hold water anymore after DOFP.
Saying film DOFP wasn't focused on Wolverine is like saying comic book DOFP wasn't focused on Kitty Pryde.

Wolverine was the one who was sent into the past, so yes, he was the character the audience was following. And I'm not exactly complaining about it. I actually don't mind the focus on Wolverine.

The films haven't shown the strengths of the other X-Men to anywhere near the extent they have for Wolverine. If you do a GA poll of favourite X-Man I wouldn't be surprised by something like 90% voting for him while comic readers would probably have him in the high teens (still deservedly one of the most popular characters but not at the expense of everyone else).

I recently visited my local walmart and saw loads of superhero shirts. There was Spiderman, Batman, Superman, Avengers, Ironman, Captain America.. but no X-Men shirts. I turned to Amazon, hoping to find something, and, though I did, X-Men were still greatly outnumbered and represented by a lower quality product, based on design and reviews. I also recently received a Halloween costume catalog by mail and saw the same thing. There was one X-Man (Wolverine) costume and every Avenger, plus Batman, Superman and their female counterparts. The thing is, I would very much like a couple of X-Men shirts to wear, as I have none.

But I also realized:

No merch = no public exposure = less people remembering they like X-Men and less fans purchasing something for which there is an obvious demand. I know I may be beating the dead horse here but Fox/Marvel should really push to get some good X-merch out.

Yeah I hate seeing all Marvel characters on shirts and pencil cases and stuff except for X-Men.

The demand is there, it's sad that they won't fill it.

Wolverine's part In DOFP was to guide Xavier. It's still much more a Xavier story.

The only full action sequenze wolverine had was fight with thugs. He took some roles In prison break and fight with 1973 sentinle at white house.

Wolverine had always been the most popular X-Man long before the first X-Men film. And the complants of him being over exposed predate the films.

I just bought two new X-Men t-shirts recently...

But I agree, the merchandising deal is lousy right now. My nephew asked for X-Men toys for Christmas this year, so I'm going to be scouring NYCC for some this weekend to see what I can find. Can't find them anywhere else.

Then again, he also wants GOTG toys and specifically asked for a Gamora action figure. Marvel's been pretty terrible at including that character with GOTG merchandise, with the "ew, it's a girl!" policy they seem to have going over there too.

Considering we now have word that Robert Downey JR Is talking to disney about a Iron Man 4 we can't rule out return of any cast members for future films.OT actors cameoing at end of Apocalypse.FC actors returning post apocalypse Hugh jackman or others In post credit scene for deadpool.Hugh Jackman In Possable X-force film. The return of original cast In film.

What the heck does RDJ coming back for Iron Man 4 have to do with OT actors coming back...?

because apparently the logic is that 'if Marvel does it, Fox could do it too. But if Marvel doesnt, Fox cant do it by theirself' :funny:

The point I was trying to make with the iron man news we can't be sure what happens In future. If OT cast is really done.If Jackman Is done after new wolverine. If FC cast Is done after Apocalypse.

Im surprised nobody has commented on all the things going on with Marvel cutting off writers from making new X-characters, and then the whole FF thing and all the Spiderman stuff and then how people think it could effect Apoc when that gets closer. If it effects it at all.

Bendis and Aaron have created tons of new mutants in the past 2 years. Pretty much every X title has new mutants really. Nothing has seemed to stop them. New mutants being found has actually been part of the storylines.

I can't see any truth to that unless this is something that just happened within a week.

I'm not bothered by it. I'm not interested in new X-characters so

Apparently Chris Claremont said it this week but it could be baloney I guess, I like Duran agree that it isnt that bad as it means writers can actually develop existing characters.

Yeah, he said that, but it's just weird since there are alot of New Mutants. Look at Uncanny X-Mens roster.

Eva Bell is awesome. Looking forward to her Annuals. I like a few of the newer ones.

great point. this could work for the most recent mutants, even the familiar ones. The more development and exposure, more chances to see them in the movies :woot:

I don't think the comic medium has any bearing on the cinematic medium by any stretch. It's irrelevant and there are plenty of characters to choose from. Marvel is just damaging their own brand if they start to completely neglect these characters. They will be worthless and dried up by the time the rights eventually come around.

Marvel could get money from X-Men merch, animated shows/dvds, figures and all of that, but I guess they want all the money or nothing. Bad for them, then.

X-Men sells huge for them in comics, and they know it. The Death Of Wolverine is the top selling comic right now. Beating out Bats, Spidey and Justice League. There's over a dozen X-books including solos for Storm, Cyclops, Nightcrawler and Magneto. It's actually too much right now tbh. An X fan will go broke having all the titles on their pull. Plus pretty much all the crossovers have to do with them as well.

The lack of merch has not really affected sales of their comics from what I can see. And I guess that's all they care about. If they won't support the movie cause of rivalry I can see that business pov , but besides Wolverine and Deadpool the comic merch should be higher when sales are that good and they are willing to put out that many comics. That doesn't make sense.

I have no problem whatsoever, if the writers can't create new characters for the comics. They just introduced like a hundred of characters in the last 3 years. I actually think the comic universe right now is so crowded that they need to step back a little. Seriously, 10-12 X-Men titles per month? Thats a lot! I also don't want to see the characters that are created in the 2000s/2010s in the films like Raza, Hope Summers.... though characters like Darwin, Tempest, Ink already appeared in the filmverse.

In my opinion, they need to scale down the number of comics they release and prioritize the quality of the comics, keep the team roster for years and not change it every 6 to 10 issues.

Agreed

Bad for them and bad for the fans but not bad for Fox in the slightest. They're basically punching themselves in the balls to hurt someone else

The lack of X-Men clothing, home goods, toys, Disney Infinity figures, video games, halloween costumes and cartoons is not bad for Fox in the slightest? Unless FOX and Marvel reach some kind of agreement in these areas, FOX is going to be struggling mightily to maintain the X-Men fanbase going forward.
