I think what they need to do is give the main "X-MEN" title a break. This is the end of the First Class trilogy and I think they should wait more than 2 years before they start the new one.
You'll have Storm showing up in New Mutants, you'll have a Deadpool sequel and possibly X-Force, maybe have another New Mutants style spinoff where Scott and Jean appear. Then we can get the new trilogy. I wouldn't be surprise if the next trilogy is all based around the Phoenix saga. Singer is a huge sci-fi/space nerd. If anyone can get cosmic wit the X-Men, it's him.
Phoenix arc is a two part thing. It begins with the Phoenix Saga and ends with the Dark Phoenix Saga. If and when they adapt Phoenix into the films, it should not be crammed into one film. You have to do one with her rising as Phoenix and the second is about her downfall as DP
If Singer is director again, the next movie will be out in 2019. If he is not, 2018 is a good possibility.

You have to do one with her rising as Phoenix and the second is about her downfall as DP. It wouldnt be a 4 hour movie broken up into 2 parts, but it would be a saga told with 2 distinct Acts which are standalone. It wouldnt end on a cliffhanger as the first should conclude and with jump in time when they get to the DPS
Well they could kill jean off again but i doubt it, and if they did it wouldn't end like X2 did for good reason
i think for a next movie they would have to offer some sort of gimmick or recognisable added story elements from other stories to help set up the phoenix story (Proteus), something that will keep it fresh, cool and grip the casual audience as if its like a story with lesser known characters from the phoenix saga that only the fans know... that may not be enough to be worth making it a 2 parter, it certainly needs to more to even come close to say infinity wars when it comes to hey we can trust this will work as a 2 parter and people will be so gripped and excited by the first they will wanna see the next one.
Its like DOFP and Apocalypse could easy have been a 2 parter but its very much not one, DOFP didn't end with apocalypse waking up, it was all very much saved for this movie
If i am not wrong, Singer wanted to make X3-X4 back to back because Phoenix Saga was to big.
Phoenix trilogy:
Part 1: Space threat, Shi'ar, Phoenix saves the day.
Part 2: Hellfire Club (Mastermind and Selene), Phoenix destruction, resolved through telepathic blocks. Shi'ar return for Jean's trial/punishment as a cliff hanger.
Part 3: X-men vs. Imperial Guard.
That would be pretty faithful and I think it could work. I honestly don't think they'd go in this direction though. I'm open for different takes on the Phoenix.
btw I like Kodi's Nightcrawler.
If we get more than one movie devoted to Phoenix![]()

Yeah those ideas were just purely my fan wishes. Your thoughts are definitely more sensible. Although the second movie in my plan would have a conclusion. Phoenix would seem under control through something like telepathic blocks or depowering. The ending would set up the conflict between the X-men and the Shi'ar. It wouldn't be a Desolation of Smaug cliffhanger, where nothing in the story was concluded. Worst ending ever btw.I support two separate and standalone movies. Firstly, because stretching things out always leads to bad results (hi again Harry Potter and Hunger Games!), and it would mean your second film would have no conclusion or catharsis.
Assuming this young cast does a fourth movie counting Apocalypse (apparently, they only signed to do three according to an interview), the one after the DPS film (which should not end with Jean dying), should be the team rebounding for an amazing earth adventure.
I am not against doing Sinister or Proteus. I just think if you spend two movies in space, all of a sudden fighting mutants on earth will be fun again. It is all about not sticking with the same thing too long, which the original three movies kind of did as one of their several major flaws by the third film.
I really dont see a reason why 2 and 3 need to be broken up into two films. Part 3 is literally one issue of the comic. A great issue at that but does that really need to be dragged out into its own 2 hour film? That battle can serve as the finale to Part 2. I dont think theres enough content to the battle on the moon to warrant it being its own filmPhoenix trilogy:

That would be pretty faithful and I think it could work. I honestly don't think they'd go in this direction though. I'm open for different takes on the Phoenix. A defining moment of my fandom was watching TAS's Dark Phoenix Saga part 3, thinking it was resolved by the end but then the Shi'ar cliffhanger really brought the story to another level of epic. I'd love to see that feeling reproduced in the movies. The high stakes and the seemingly never-ending complications.
btw I like Kodi's Nightcrawler.
