Bishop and Blink were pretty anticipated characters. But that film also had Wolverine, Iceman, Colossus, Kitty and Storm who are gonna grab the popularity vote.

Blink was def a highlight for many. Marketing Rogue, obviously a mistake.

I'm not following your point here though, that it's ok to waste the potential of these characters as long as they are not marketed? I think the goal is don't ruin or waste the characters period be it X3, XMOW, DOFP or XMA.

I'm just saying the reason why non-comic readers were disappointed with the horsemen was because they were marketed as major characters, which they obviously were not. Even if they replaced them with C-listers like the horsemen in the original storyline non-comic fans would have still been disappointed.

I disagree if they weren't very popular XMen like Storm,Psylocke, and Warren and got the same amount of screen time I would not have felt the same at all. My fav basically got screwed over in this movie and was wasted as a Horsemen I would have just preferred her starting off as an XMen I was hoping for a more no holds barred and was looking forward to the destruction Storm could've brought though it would've came with serious consequences. They just brought in these characters and did nothing with them, I honestly felt bad for Jubilee fans as well.

No, a lot of them were indeed flat out fallacious. Like people saying Apocalypse turned people into dust, which never happened in the film.

Warren shouldn't have been in this movie at all.
I had no problem with Apocalypse and those powers of turning people into dust or decapitating them with it. It was a cool display I thought and I completely agree with what you said about Warren.

I mean people were saying "Apocalypse is an idiot for not turning the X-Men into dust like did those others guys". I remember hearing that before I saw the movie and then after I saw it I said to myself "what the hell were they even talking about?". It was just pure misread of a scene. There were plenty of other criticisms like that.

Well I was speaking about non-comic readers.

And for me Cyclops and Jean should be the main focus of the next couple of X-Men movies.

Unfortunately this is still not a guarantee if Kinberg insists on having the likes of JLaw and Fassy back.

So how did we get to this, how did this guy become the go-to-guy for this franchise? :loco:

Fox probably likes Kinberg again after his success with DOFP. Though hopefully Apocalypse makes them re-think that.

Agreed, and this is what has been hurting X-Men films for years.

There is a certain expectations that comes with these characters and if they don't live up, interest drops. Right now we live in a time where D listers (GOTG) and even Z listers (NTW) get respect and have moved up the ranks in the past 5 years. Keep putting A list X-Men like Storm in the background and it does the worst for Fox, fans, audiences or anyone discovering X-Men. There is nothing to benefit.

Joss Whdeons comments on the X-Men were dead on. They have the best female characters easily in comics. So why are Fox and Kinberg not taking advantage of this?

In this film they had Storm, Psylocke and Jubilee. Three non-white female hero's who already come with a heavy fanbase most Marvel Studios characters aren't even close to and they completely waste them. They can't keep doing this, and if they do then they deserve to fail. X-Men is supposed to represent characters like this, not push to the side.

Does it really make a difference? That invalidates all of their criticisms?

Where did you get the impression that I was implying? I'm just saying there were criticisms that were just misinterpretations.

Its likely more about their relationship with kinberg that keeps him attached to the series since he also wrote X3 and continued to write for the series even after aswell as F4.

I assume fox have kinberg have a good relationship and fox trust him.

TBH since they have quicksilver involved as an X-Man now and mystique likely lives at the mansion with Xavier now it makes sense they should be a part of it either way.

Its like if a director came onboard right now and was in charge of the next movie which is obviously coming off Apocalypse... would they say i don't want mystique there living at the mansion and throw their rattle out the buggy? no thats likely not happening and any reason why they would get rid of a character would have to be for a good reason that isn't personal bias.

And i know FC to DOFP threw out characters and don't agree with them doing it but i honestly doubt they will do that again simply because apocalypse finished off that trilogy and what likely kept that happening for those films was the whole idea that the 3rd was gonna be where everything came together, everything was being held back and now they set everything up how they wanted it to finish off so i imagine this is where everything is staying for time being now.

Because you've mentioned that scene more than once and you're essentially saying that critics "didn't get it" and if they didn't get that scene they probably didn't get others and they're basing their criticism on something they didn't understand.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter if he turned them into sand or decapitated them with sand (what? how does that happen?). We all saw scenes where Apocalypse killed groups of people with gestures. In the climax he could have done the same to the X-Men but didn't for some reason.

It's more of a case of misinformation effect.

If Quicksilver couldn't stop Magneto, how can sand?

I'll use the same reasoning you've used for other plot holes in the previous movies (Wolverine ending up with Weapon X, etc): 10 year gap.

If JLaw doesn't want to come back, that 10 year gap can be used. Ditto with Fassy, though he's more open to coming back.

Though with that article from THR with them rethinking this franchise, anything can happen.

I have a feeling magneto, mystique and quicksilver won't be as expendable as you hope

Yes exactly. None of these characters except for maybe Hank and Xavier have shown that much commitment to each other or a cause to guarantee they'll still be around in 10 years. A lot can happen that can cause their philosophies or priorities to change. Maybe they don't want to fight anymore and give a shot at starting their own families?

LOL Storm, Cyclops and Jean are non-entities in a First Class and have minor roles in a Days of Future Past but OMG you said they should get rid of 2 villains and a non-X-men from the comics. TAKE IT BACKKKK!!!

And who involved is gonna look at it that way? Who for example is gonna come onboard and be like yeah I know quicksilver has been popular with audiences so it probably wouldn't be bad to keep around but he ain't an X-Man in the comics so I want him written out!

This is still the film series, the comic rules won't apply for writing characters out and anyone who comes onboard to write or direct will likely have to take the previous 3 movies into consideration before thinking about the comics.

Speaking of taking previous 3 movies into account, I bring you Erik and Charles not meeting at 17, Charles and Mystique step brothers, Hank being the author of Cerebro instead of Charles and Magneto, Cyclops Jean and Storm not being first students (not even in Apocalypse, Jubilee is senior to them), Hank invented a mutant cure before 2006, the list goes on.

They'll probably end up doing whatever they want. I don't know why you're intent on dismissing people's expectations for a character shakeup.

Technically Erik helped Charles build Cerebro in this movie. :)

Certain character shake ups just seem abit unreleastic, in the long run il say this and il continue to say this, quicksilver won't be written out unless there is another movie they can use him for, otherwise he is staying at the school just like he stayed in his mums basement from DOFP to apocalypse, there is no reason to write him out beyond someone coming onboard who blows his nose and wipes his butt with comic books and argues with fox noooo quicksilver isn't an X-Man I don't want him thereeee!

Magneto makes sense to come back because of the quicksilver connection.

I think overall what people are expecting here is that they will throw anyone who isn't an X-Man in the comics or cartoons thrown out for this new shake up and that feels like one of those comic book fan fantasies

Even if the dynamic shifts more towards the team (including quicksilver) which I am kinda expecting it will happen but I don't think the elder characters will just be tossed out like that.

If XM:A wrapped up the arcs for Xavier and Magneto, with Xavier becoming the classic bald-headed professor, and Magneto dealing with all his tragedies, then they would have to create new arcs for other characters instead.

They can't keep focusing on the same people over and over.

The Quicksilver/Magneto thing may never be addressed. And it's difficult to see Quicksilver remaining at the mansion as an X-Men member once it has been addressed. I think the best place to develop it would be a Genosha/Magneto Rex/House of M-inspired spin-off.

Jean, Scott and Storm would make good candidates for arcs in the next trilogy, if there ever is one.

Jean is most likely getting one. They need to explain why her and Apocalypse were having the same exact vision.

I don't think that's a good enough excuse. What are you going to have him do other than have deadbeat dad drama with Quicksilver? Remember he still isn't an X-Men member and they have to come up with an excuse for him to be involved in the story. So far, they've repeated the same plot beats -- either he helps the X-Men and turns on them, or he is against them.

Maybe if they choose to adapt Genosha or Asteroid M, which I think is unlikely -- if they haven't adapted those stories having Magneto for six movies, I doubt they will now. There's also the fact Magneto as a big bad woud be tired at this point.

Plus there's the big elephant in the room, the fact that he nearly destroyed the world and probably killed a lot of people and got away with it at the end of Apocalypse.

The real elephant in the room is that Xavier blew up two submarines and barely anyone is talking about that(both in and out of story).
