The next X-Men movie is due out in theatres early next year, after being pushed back from a planned November release to allow for reshoots.

It's not clear how much new material is being shot, with star Sophie Turner – who plays the central figure of Jean Grey – telling Digital Spy that she's not sure which sequences in Dark Phoenix are being tweaked.

"I think it's just a few bits and bobs, reshoot-wise," Turner said. "To be honest, I don't even know what we're reshooting at the moment. So I couldn't really tell you much about that one.

"All I know is that I'll be back in Montreal at some point soon, and that the Valentine's Day release date is quite a positive thing, because Black Panther got released on Valentine's Day. So we're keeping positive about it."

Turner promised that the movie version would be "vastly different" to the mutant team's last big-screen outing, 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse.

"This movie is kind of a lot more emotion-based, much more grounded," she enthused. "There are, of course, those supernatural elements, but this one is really character-driven – a really emotional story about a girl battling with a deadly mix of mental health problems and being a superhero.

"So it's all wrapped up into one, and it's a movie about struggle and abandonment and not knowing yourself. Yeah, an internal struggling. It's so, so interesting. It's such a departure from the last movie."

The original shoot took place from June to October 2017, with Turner describing the experience as "so emotional" and "a real tester".

"I put my heart and soul into that movie," she said. "It was so fun, but it was such a stretch."

"A few bits and bobs." Yet some people believe so called sources who say the whole 3rd act is being reshot lmao.

And its good to hear once again that this will be more character centric film than Apocalypse.

Two things:
(1) You really think a cast (or crew) member will admit in an interview "Yea we're reshooting the whole 3rd act."
(2) In that same line where you sourced that "A few bits and bobs" quote, she literally says "To be honest, I don't even know what we're reshooting at the moment. So I couldn't really tell you much about that one."

Goes to show you not to put much stock in pre-release interviews.

Saying I'm starting something when you and your cohorts are constantly picking at anyone who wants to be objective with your constant negativity and trying to turn it around on me? That's rich.

And it is spelled "hypocrisy."

I'm done with this. You want to keep attacking strawmen then you do you. I'll stick to talking to the posters who regularly discuss different ideas civilly.

Will a whole third act reshoot cost supposedly under 10 million? Especially if that involves heavy visual effects? I don't think so. Not enough money for heavy VFX and not enough time to allow for that work particularly if Chastain and Mcavoy shoot their segment toward the end of October.

yeah, we all still remember Hugh Jackman words about X3 saying it was the worst movie of the trilogy. Actors are always 100% honest with the press and fans, they dont need to lie :funny:

Sophie clearly has no idea what Kinberg will reshoot. and she wont speak bad about her leading movie. Critics will be the real test next year, not Chastain or Turner.

Maybe they ain't for heavy VFXs scenes.

10 million is the average reshoots cost.

yeah.....I don't think many of the cast for Avengers 4 have any idea what they're reshooting either until they actually go in mid-summer (likely sometime this month) and do reshoots for a month or two until Sept.

That was my point. The cost don't indicate extensive reshoots. Reshooting an entire third act would most likely involve intense use of visual effects as the climax for a film like this.

Looks like no Dark Phoenix at SDCC this year.

Who knows? That THR article that you keep quoting with the $10Million figure also says that Kinberg has yet to pen anything for the reshoots. So back in March 2018, even Kinberg didn't know.

By the by, the title of that THR article that you're quoting also reads: "'X-Men: Dark Phoenix' to Get Major Reshoots as Simon Kinberg Tweaks Script."

I'm sure he knew what he needed to change, simply didn't know what to change it with. If that same article stated the reshoots would cost less than 10 million....then the reshoots wouldn't really be major or at least not involve heavy use of VFX. A cost of 20 million or more with two months or longer period would be major. But even a film with little to no VFX....having an under 10 million reshoot budget is normal.

Perhaps the writer who wrote the article thought under 10 million is "major" and didn't know much about reshoot costs. Or perhaps they were writing a sensational headline. If you notice, the word "major" or anything suggesting extensive work doesn't actually appear in the article itself, only the headline. Within the article itself: "The mutant film will now undergo some reshoots"

Just like he knew that reshoots would conflict with his stars' schedules right? :cwink:

Could it be rumblings of the early $10Mil reshoots figure is from the $10Mil saved from Production and based on what Kinberg actually writes for the reshoots, the reshoot budget could go higher than that $10Mil?

Wouldn't be the first time a studio is secretive of their film's total budget after a film's reception.

its called selective memory :funny:

Shooting schedules are determined by actor availability. I don't think there was ever a conflict since they knew early in the year those were the dates they could get their actors together in one place, and thus scheduled the reshoots at those times. The release date reschedule suggests a move more cosmetic in nature, along with combination of a previously planned better release slot. Fox had previously set the original release date long before the film was shot and its not unusual to reshuffle dates.

As for budget, Kinberg already completed the production shoot under-budget if that's any indication. Because of Kinberg's producing experience he probably mapped out how extensive changes will be. Since he knows what scenes need reshoots, he's likely aware whether or not they would involve major VFX even if he didn't know specifically what the scene would entail.

Ah...I guess there really is “Nothing to see here folks!”

What’s everyone so worried about?

Well, everything is pretty much laid out as far as we know. You're already seeing it unless you're looking for something else. Haven't heard anything major with reshoots that would signal anything beyond regular reshoots as far as cost and length are concerned. Avengers 4 has nearly over a month or more in reshoots. Wonder how much that cost? Is that cause for alarm? Should we be worried? After all, Infinity War's critical rating fell below even First Class, and Infinity War had reshoots too. So, don't know what to tell you.....

I'm mostly glad that it's a major departure from Apocalypse. That's good to hear.

There were articles around the time of DOFP in 2014 that were all eh oh they are doing heavy reshoots... Is the film in trouble? It's probably gonna be the most expensive reshoots yet!

It would be more troubling if in interviews, the cast and crew would say they’re doubling down on the mistakes of the previous badly-reviewed instalment.

The question really isn’t: Is Kinberg going to make a movie that’s different from that mess?

The question is: Is he able to?

According to you. Many feel he might be able to left to his own devices.

I don't think anyone wants a bad movie, just that Kinberg's track record doesn't fill you with confidence. I'd be ecstatic if Dark Phoenix is good, but at the moment it doesn't seem likely.

At least we'll get a Hans Zimmer score out of, regardless of the film's ultimate quality.

Stop responding if you're "done" you're maybe one of the least "civil" people here. Constantly making snarky remarks then getting mad and calling foul when someone challenges that. This is a message board were people are able to have different opinions than yourself. I have been just as "civil" as you.

Maybe you should be the change you want to see in others.
