I don't remember X-Men Evolution ever did a take on the Dark Phoenix saga.

Sorry, I believe that was Wolverine and the X-men. Just reminded me of Evolution since they are younger-ish versions of the characters. I think Evolution was supposed to have their own adaptation version before it was cancelled.

It was supposedly in the works for the next season. There is a future glimpse of the Phoenix in the final episode.

Back to Dark Phoenix I kind of like the idea of the X-Men being national heroes. It’s makes the public aware that not all mutants are bad however I still hope that their are characters who still oppose them, so I hope in the mission to space there are a few people that are leary of the X-Men helping just to show that difference. However with Jean going dark so publicly and causing destruction I hope the military shows up to stop her and Jean rips those tanks to shreds!

Was this acceptable for XMOW, Fant4stic or X3 though? Or Catwoman, Elektra, AvP, Batman and Robin, Ghost Rider, Last Airbender, Ghostbusters etc.

This is nothing new and honestly nothing comparable to say Ghostbusters. The X-Men franchise has had a passionate fanbase since beyond the films being made while fans have been going on the internet to complain in droves since TPM was released. Fox has been getting it since they released X3, XMOW, AvP, Elektra, F4, F42 etc.

Ridiculous, sure. New or surprising? No.

True. I always rolled my eyes at the Star Wars fanboys who worshipped a universe George Lucas literally invented out of thin air, but still wanted to burn the man alive (and I too dislike the prequel trilogy, but come on...).

The worst though is Ghostbusters. Because there was more than just rabid fan anger in that. There was something darker and uglier in the online reaction to women as Ghostbusters.

Why'd you go and remind me of that???!!!

That last scene with Xavier looking into the the future......ooooh, what could have been.

Look on the bright side, chances are very, very high that a new show will go into production in the next 2 years so you may yet get to see something.

We will all be bored to death with Phoenix by that point.

I hope any new animated show focuses on something else. There are SO MANY X-Men stories and we can't just keep repeating the same ones.

Very true. That was what I really enjoyed about the OG X-Men show from the 90's. They were all over the map with their stories.

I'll be honest: I'm more excited about the possibility of Disney making others mutant animated series like New Mutants, X-Factor, X-Force, etc... than an actual X-Men animanted series (which I desperately want too).

I like that idea as well. I know there are some people that feel like these movies are all the same. However, seeing the X-Men as national heroes would be a huge deaparture from anything in the series thus far.

I also saw character designs for Emma Frost and Psylocke for a possible next season. Which looked pretty cool.

I don't know about that. Marvel Animation is pretty bad especially with their current animated shows so I personally won't get eXcited.

This whole blame Kinberg game for F4 has gotten old. Never mind the two main culprits: Josh Trank and Fox Studios. Kinberg didn't direct the movie. He didn't have absolute control over the movie. Everybody keeps ignoring Trank's erratic and unprofessional behavior on set witnessed by cast and crew that got him essentially blacklisted.

No one's ignoring Trank as one of the main culprits of the epic fail that was Fant4stic. You said it yourself, the guy has been blacklisted in Hollywood.

I don't know what world you live in but not being able to find work is as scapegoated as one can get.

Meanwhile Kinberg, after epic failures as writer for Ice Cube's XXX 2, X3 (which was so bad it momentarily halted the X-men franchise and forced them, among other things, to do prequels instead), Jumper, This Means War, X-men Apocalypse and Fant4stic is rewarded with Directing a film in the franchise he's written stinkers in.

As X-men fans I think we've earned the right to voice our opinions when we see a hack given a second chance for the umteenth time.

So yea I think you should hear more about Kinberg and things he should be blamed for! You don't seem to have all the info!

They weren't forced to make prequels though. Fox wanted to make cheaper films without bringing back the entire original cast for X4 (like as if they had to especially with the characters that they were already killed).

The plan was always for spinoffs after X3. They wanted an X-Origins line, they were going to make a Shadowcat film, I believe a Storm film was even discussed. The failure of Origins: Wolverine ended all that.

And yet ORIGINS: WOLVERINE made just under the amount X2 had made...focusing on just Wolverine. If it was such a massive failure, how did it get a sequel? The movie was a critical failure, but a moderate box office success.

And if anything, the reaction to WOLVERINE caused them to revisit their plans for the X-Men spinoffs and to create an entire X-Men franchise revolving largely around the "origins" concept. X-MEN: FIRST CLASS owes a lot to the abandoned ORIGINS: MAGNETO concept, for instance.

I would imagine ORIGINS: STORM never materialized in part because Halle Berry's career trajectory changed fairly drastically around the time this was all in development. The X-Men franchise was her only truly high profile gig at that point...I don't think she was considered much of a box office draw on her own.

Yeah, so they weren't forced to make spin offs. I don't think the "failure" of Origins ended that though. X-Men Origins: Magneto was superseded by First Class which is an origin film, that was originally going feature young Cyclops/young Emma teased in Origins Wolverine until Singer came on board. While origins Wolverine was planned to be the first Wolverine film before they adapt the Japan Wolverine story.

eh....I could say the same for Bryan Singer who's directed some failed films yet he was allowed to direct another x-men movie. I've never seen a Kinberg directed film and I am intrigued to see how he tackles this in the changing superhero film climate. He seemed to have gotten a clue after Apocalypse and I'm simply ready for anything other than another Singer x-men movie. It'll be Fox's last x-men film before Marvel take over, so might as well. It may not even matter if Marvel does a complete overhaul and recast entirely new actors moving forward like they've done for previous properties they've reacquired.

I'm curious to see what Kinberg does differently. After his experiences on producing successful superhero films like Deadpool and Logan, his stated fondness on direction of films like Civil War....I want to see what he's learned and how he'll apply it in this new climate. I want to see how he uses the actors differently from Singer, what his choice of action sequences are, what the changed aesthetic he's talked about for the film will look like. He's talked about his failures particularly on X3, so he's aware of the pressure I presume. Now that he's been given control over the film (which he hasn't had with this franchise), I can make an informed opinion on what his directing is like, good or bad.

Singer made only 1 bad movie, Jack the Giant.

The others are avarage or good and 2 are great (Usual Suspect and Days)
