The Winter Soldier "Yeah, it's going to be fun"- The Black Widow/Scarlett Johansson Thread - Part 1

Jesus, you all have high demands dontcha? The man only started making Marvel movies about 6 years ago, and he's only JUST now making his FIRST non-Avengers property. Yet instead of being grateful for what he and Marvel have accomplished it's all "Where are the female-led Marvel movies Mr. Feige? And for that matter, where are the minority-led superhero movies as well?" (when he has actually created both in the Netflix shows).

Comic book fanboys and their entitlement...He's not God, people.
Oh please stop it. Yes, it's quite impressive what they've accomplished and I've stated that in the past. However, that does not mean that there's no room for improvement or that Feige is not above some criticism. The simple fact is that there's been a distinct lack of female and minority-led superhero movies across the board, and thus far Marvel has done nothing to help alleviate that. There's been eight MCU movies so far over seven years, and four more confirmed over the next two. How many of those starred female or minority characters, zero. We got three IM movies, two Thor movies, two Cap movies (with a third confirmed for both of them) and know we're getting freaking Ant Man and GOTG (and probably Dr. Strange). Again, NONE of those star a female or minority character. It's a valid complaint, and MANY people have made it. You have ten movies and they all star white men, and two team-up movies that predominantly feature white men. The fact that the MCU was pre-planned only makes it worse because that means that they DELIBERATELY structured it to be this way from the very beginning. If they take steps to address this in the future, then I may change my mind. But until then, the point still stands.

GotG doesn't have a female character?

The reason for that is that Marvel have been making the most popular characters first in order to establish a base to build on, and those characters happen to be white heterosexual males.

Black Widow isn't a female either. That or she doesn't count because some fans wanted another female character instead. The original female BAMF Peggy Carter counts for nothing as well, even though a solo TV show is being developed for her to star in. Let's not even mention Jessica Jones, shall we? Also, War Machine and the Falcon aren't minorities and/or folks would rather see some other Black guys in their places. Luke Cage? Luke Who? He doesn't count at all, right?

Not to mention Scarlet Witch and Nick Fury.

Marvel had to make Avengers (since they don't have the rights of Spider-Man and X-Men), and the heroes they chose to make were Iron Man, Thor, and Capt. America. Yes, they are all white males, but what's wrong with it? Eventually Marvel will make movies based on Ms. Marvel and Black Panther, but Marvel Studios has only been making movies in the last 5-6 years so they will need some time to get to the other characters. WB has been making DC superhero movies for much longer time, but the only black and female superhero solo movies they made were Shaq's Steel, Halle Berry's Catwoman, and that Supergirl movie; none of them were made with a lot of care and attention, and the results were disastrous. I'm sure when Marvel finally makes their movies, they won't be doing it half-heartedly. Meanwhile, Marvel already has heroes like BW, Nick Fury, Maria Hill, Agent Carter, Falcon, War Machine, Scarlet Witch, etc. And they will have Luke Cage and Jessica Jones on Netflix soon. People making it sounds as if they only have white males in their movies.

We are speaking of starring roles. Rhodey, BW, Peggy, Pepper, Fury and Falcon are supporting roles.

And I'm not sure how you can reconcile "there is no A-list or B-list" with "they need to have movies of the most popular comic guys first, like Ant-man and Strange"

I am beyond excited for the Netflix shows. I can't wait to see Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. That doesn't mean that I don't want to see more diverse leads in the movies.

I never said there was anything wrong with it, I fully get why Marvel have taken the path they have, it makes perfect sense IMO and in time the other characters will get their chance to shine.

Well BW is the female protagonist of CA2 and TA is an ensemble movie in which she was an Avenger, so I wouldn't put her in the "supporting role" category. Same with Gamora.

My post wasn't directed at you, Hunter Rider. :oldrazz:

I'm willing to wait and see with the MCU where PHASE 3 is going to go. There's been a lot of things said and uttered about a lot of different projects and I do think something's on the horizon, whether it be a Black Widow or Captain Marvel movie. To a degree it is frustrating, but the way Marvel keeps building up its female characters makes me love them, on both television and in the movies.

I mean, who'd have thought we were ever going to get a Peggy Carter show potentially?

That said, I want a female-led movie here announced pretty soon (or a Black Panther movie). I still have faith in them to do it.

Maybe your the problem here because all I see are equal human beings .. Why do you have to make this about race ? Lol

Jk I understand, I for one think a Black Panther movie has sooo much potential! More so than Dr Strange & it will come sooner than later.

I also find the contention that Feige is misleading us about a female-led project without any evidence to back it up very suspect. I'm sure I threw the phrase out there in frustration before, but unless you are an "insider" or have some knowledge of the inner workings of Feige's brain, that's not an accusation that's credible to me. He's responsible for elevating Black Widow to a huge profile in the MCU and he's found ways to develop and increase representation of women in positive ways in the movies. The females in the MCU are some of the most well developed characters in any CBM and they work independent of being love interests for the men, which is really most of what I want.

She is. Always good to see behind the scenes stuff.

Really looking forward to her performance, and I am so happy for her with the pregnancy. It is always great to welcome life and positivity into the world.
