Bane is the most Vader-like of the Batman villains. He's a big guy, he likes to choke people, he's a heavy breather, he wears a face mask because of past injuries.

[BLACKOUT]And, last but not least, threatens Ben Mendelsohn. :o[/BLACKOUT]

The reviews for Affleck-directed Live by Night are in. So far there are 5 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and all of them except one are rotten. 48 on Metacritic. Disney paid critics again! :o

"At their worst, Affleck’s roles are stern and lifeless without soul, pretty sculptures with nothing inside. It was only a matter of time before he made a movie that embodied that lesser side of his career. "

"Ben Affleck's Live by Night has great action and intriguing drama, but simply bites off too much to chew."

"The ... nagging hole in the thriller is Affleck himself, playing a tough guy with a sense of right and wrong, in a stolid performance that takes up a lot of space without packing the necessary gravitas."

"It's like seeing the ghost of a terrific movie: All the pieces are in place, yet as you're watching it (or thinking back on it afterwards), there doesn't seem to be quite enough there there."

"For a movie where so much occurs in the first 30 minutes, the pace still tends to drag and, at times, is as slow as hell. A lot of these problems can be attributed to Affleck's stilted screenplay that never quite finds the right tone."

"While "Live By Night" is surely stylish, and features a set of terrific performances, it's deprived of inspiration and misplaced in a year that was full of it."

The DCEU is the gift that keeps on giving. And by gift I mean curse.

WAKE ME UP INSIDE

I CAN'T WAKE UP

LOL at DCEU fans

Oh yeah....and Dont downplay the fact that SOME negative reviews of Live By Night is a preemptive strike against Affleck's Batman

Anyone else already calling ******** on the critics take on Live By Night?

People think I'm exaggerating when I say the only films that are immune to reproach are Disney films....

But seriously, it seems like any and everything not done by them is approached with caution or disdain....

and it seems like it ****ing pains critics to admit anyone besides them is actually capable of producing a good film

Not everything is so deep & connected. Live by Night sounds like Affleck tried to take too much on. The film's reception is NOT due to BvS.

@ConnorFilm I heard the price of gas went up in Boston because Ben plays Batman in the DCEU

That's unfortunate.

It could at least be entertaining, right?

I mean, you knew it was coming. I know I joke about the DCEU ending the Benaissance, but it really has nothing to do with him being Batman.

But I will say that his busier than usual schedule and commitments have sped up his process and probably affected this film's quality.

The critics are just taking their hatred for Snyder out on Ben now. They have no shame.

I did read once that early reviews of the movie were negative, I didn't know then whether to take it or dismiss it as rumors. Now it's fonirmed.

Chance of The Batman sucking as a film went up significantly.

just let snyder direct it so I can begin the healing process now and abandon all expectations before I get burned by the only project I had any faith left in

At this point, it's hard for me to assume any DCEU movie will be good...but I think it's also premature to say Affleck's film is doomed just because it looks like he made his first critically mixed/panned film. His three other movies should count for something too, one of which won Best Picture.

I do agree that his relentless schedule could be an issue though.

Didn't Ben claim he picked up directorial tips and tricks from Snyder? Uh oh.

Nolan pls save us

I take back everything I said about Rises, SAVE USSSSSS

In all seriousness, I think Nolan has said everything he wanted to say with the character.

However, especially after seeing Westworld...I would love it if Jonathan Nolan returned to the Bat-franchise some day. He's the bigger fanboy anyway. I'd love to see if he had another Batman story to tell years down the road.

It's only on 12 reviews so far. I am going to try and be an optimist and hope that it could turn around and get a decent fresh rating. I really don't want to fathom another crappy version of Batman, aside from the one Snyder is probably going to deliver in JL.

Everytime the Snyder version discussion takes place, it gets me to appreciate Joel Schumacher as a Batman director even more.

I thought earlier of the art of Scott McDaniel, I'm not a fan of his work, but some of his sketches are really nice to look at.
And that reminded me in turn of the D.G. Chichester run on Daredevil, which was decent, until the fall of that series that started with the second half of Fall From Grace.

Even if the movie stays rotten, it doesn't suddenly mean Affleck is a terrible director or his past good films were flukes. I feel like we are too quick to just write someone off these days after one misfire.

I'm saying this as someone who isn't super jazzed up about Affleck's Batman film right now, but I think people need to take a chill pill about this. It seems like some DC fans have just been so traumatized by Rotten Tomatoes that they're really taking this to heart, lol. Whether they're buying into the ridiculous critics conspiracy or are just in panic mode thinking this just confirmed Affleck will drop the ball.

Personally, my approach with DC going forward is just go in with low expectations and hope to be pleasantly surprised. I think Affleck has clear talent as a director, but my concern with him doing Batman has always been that this is just such a massive undertaking with him writing, directing and starring in such a huge project.

As a DC fan who actually liked Man of Steel and wants the DCEU to succeed moving forward, I'm just concerned about the inevitable negative buzz this is going to generate for the solo Batman movie. For a while, that seemed like the safest bet for the franchise, and now it's clear that isn't even guaranteed to do well with critics.

Of course, even if the solo Batman movie does end up being considered good, I'd imagine a lot of people would still say that it's a disappointment for not living up to TDK or something. Even though I obviously wasn't a member of this website at the time, I do remember seeing the people on IMDB try to argue that TDKR was a disappointment for not being as highly rated as its predecessor back in 2012.

No movie is guaranteed to do well with critics. Anyone who thought Batfleck's solo is guaranteed to do well critically just because he is directing is deluding themselves.

Oh yeah and going to IMDb for sensible opinions on movies is like going to McDonalds for good nutritious food.
