The Dark Knight Rises You Have My Permission To Lounge - Part 7

That list has way too many bad rankings to be taken seriously. Anna Paquin's super bland Rogue at #25? Gene Hackman's Luthor at #8?

The guy who directed Kong reminds me of Snyder. He can pull off some staggeringly beautiful shots. But he also tries to be cool and pretty almost every shot. Kong is very over directed. He knows no restraint. I wonder if it being lensed by Larry Fong had something to do with it.

I saw that ranking before, shrugged it off as more El Mayimbe and co. nonsense.

So I watched the 1989 Batman movie again. I still love it, easily my favorite of the old batch of movies.

A few comments:

That intro waving through the logo excavation at night, with the iconic theme by Danny Elfman is always impressive.

I'm a fan of how the opening scene gives the illusion that this is an origin movie, to see instead an already established Batman. But I wonder how he hear the lady scream from as high as he was standing?

Standing up on the roof to wave his cape the way he did to scare the two muggers still looks off to me.

Cool sketch by Bob Kane.

For a photographer who took the kind of pictures she took over the years, she shouldn't scream as much as she did.

In the mansion, Vicki and Alex walk mocking Bruce, he walks slowly behind them and is amused. That is one of the most amusing moments.

How did Batman disappear from the sights of Gordon and Bob while Jack was picking his gun from the floor?

Smoke screen failed at doing its job, Batman was not fully concealed in his escape.

"Nice outfit" it lacks rubber nipples, of course it's nice. :oldrazz:

Still looks like Batman intentionally let go of Jack's hand in Axis chemical factory over the vat.

Winged Freak Terrorizes Gotham's Gangland" It's funny how Jack forced the laugh out.

How did Tony's flesh burn, but nothing happened to his clothes?

Bullet grazing the coat of Bruce Wayne makes me think they took that moment for inspiration for Con Air, when the character of Nicholas Cage gets shot to the side of his arm.

I love how they timed it in the museum scene to have Batman enter after the 'BOO' and Joker laugh.

"Who is this guy?", "Check his wallet", "It's some kind of body armor", "remove his mask" sequence of dialogue is bemusing. They had their doubts about him being human, and Bob tells the other goons to check his wallet.

"Stop" sounds like the voice of George Clooney, it's funny that that guy played Batman by the end of this very series. I wonder how long it took for Michael Keaton to master that bit.

I don't think I noticed before today that moment when Batman noticed Vicki Vale staring at him in the batmobile and turn the light on her.

Plenty of shots were taken by The Monarch Theater, including the batmobile chase scene.

How did Joker's 3 thugs go up in that chapel? I blame Jeremy from CinemaSins for making me question this.

I'll give it an 8/10 quality rating. 10/10 For entertainment value.

Yeah, people complain about like the entirety of BR taking place in Gotham Plaza, however B89 has that backlot look, too. It simply looks nicer.

Gotham Plaza is almost a character in that movie.

Speaking of BR; I should play Arkham Origins to see if I'll catch any homage in the game to that movie.

It's funny though because if you even think about that part for more than a second, it's super disturbing.

That's interesting. I'm not exactly sure when BvS came out on DVD (I'm sure others or you can give the exact date) but let's say it was last September. So in the course of around 6 months (180 days) you have watched it over a hundred times. That's close to every other day. My favorite movie of all time is STAR WARS: Episode IV A NEW HOPE....I have maybe seen it a 100 times over the course of 40 years. I tend to watch a lot of movies and TV, and I also tend to go for variety.

Very very impressive dude. Wow. Id love to watch that much. The movie/tv info you would know.
Just so cool.
Ive seen BvS UC countless times. Maybe not 100 but alot.
Im do venture to others brands beyond Batman. Its is hard sometimes.
My wife keeps going though my Batman and tv collection and see's something and keeps saying havent seen it lets watch it all. So Im watching Batman 66 tv series.
Just got her into Evil Dead.
Just finished watching the 2 tv seasons. Very good.

Decided to watch the final fight in BvS, watched the Ultimate version, it did not motivate me to generate any positive emotion, it just made me wonder why Superman who can fly as fast as he is, has a hard time going after a monster that leaps, and felt he had to break the building the monster was on to catch him and throw him into space, endangering so many potential lives in the processes.

Ask Zack that one. He probably didn't think about it. He just thought it looked cool.

Time for Batman Returns, and OH MY GOD, this is an oddball tale.

A few comments:

I still don't like how Pee Wee Herman and his wife caged the baby, then tossed him in the river with cold blood.

Why did a baby take a cat into its cage? And how did it have the strength for that.

A couple pass by Mr. & Mrs. Cobblepot and hear Christmas greeting, but have absolutely no response to the caged baby in the baby cart.

How did birds in the sewer unstrap a baby and opened a cage?

One chair on the windshield of one police car, and their immediate response is to call that one crazy vigilante guy with deadly car and gadgets. Cops are way too reliable on the guy they were chasing one movie ago.

Why did Batman stare at Selina Kyle the way he did for as long as he did after saving her? Aren't there more for him to save?

Penguin has clean clothes in a sewer, an array of expensive umbrellas with lots of gadgets, a loyal army, and a duck vehicle, all that and he's very articulate and familiar with every name associated to Max Schreck. How he didn't know his family name on his own before is :funny:

EEEEEYUUUUUUUGHH. A cat mouth inside that of Michelle Pfeifer.
I feel sorry for her in that moment.

This BS inspired the creation of the ever classic movie; CATWOMAN.
At least there is no power giving face burning make-up involved in this movie.

Why did she kill all her dolls? Those poor cotton stuffed fabrics shaped like animals.
#DollLivesMatter

How did she fit one leather jacket to make a tight cat costume? And how did she know how to sew?

She spray paints the dollhouse to break it immediately after.

To be continued.
I'll have to run an errand now.

It's simple. Batman Returns is visually stunning with an epic score. But it's dumb as nails. One of the worst scripts in the genre. Just ridiculous from top to bottom. Entertaining, but stupid.

Penguin's head is lower than the duck head, but he somehow managed to get his full body out without the duck vehicle interfering.

Oh cool, he worked for a circus. Guess that is proper explanation on how he managed to speak, read, and write as fluently as he did.

I'll pause my ongoing rant to say that I like how this version of Bruce Wayne was actually given time to do some detective work.

I wonder what killed the parents. Maybe Penguin knew like Batman shared his suspicions with Alfred, and he was the one to kill them.
As much as I'd like to see more of the parents story, I guess it's best they didn't make it a precursor for The Amazing Spider-Man movies with the parents plot, although I personally like that plot.

I think I'll back on rants now.
I admit enjoying it now more than I did before, but this movie still gives me an uncomfortable feeling.

Everyone praises Snyder for his action, but most of it sucked in BvS. The Batman warehouse scene was cool, but that's it.

The Doomsday fight is boring and downright ugly looking, the titular fight is underwhelming, and the Batmobile chase is crap.

No matter how bad Justice League may be, I hope Snyder steps up the action in that one. At least I'll be able to enjoy that.

It least you didn't spill the foreboding "It can't be worse".

Despite claims to the contrary, he does quite a bit of that in TDKT as well. Seems to me like it wasn't necessarily emphasised as much as some fans would've liked, if nothing else.

It's more notable in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises than it is in The Dark Knight.
