Leto's Joker has been marketed as scary? News to me. Crazy, over the top and outrageous definitely. But scary? What, when and where exactly?

Apart from certain fan reactions, just Ayer that I've seen. He said it raises the hair on your neck. I hope he's right and it does because Leto's acting is where all my hopes are placed right now, but you know the director is bound to pump up his own characters.

I remember in the TDK production days when Michael Caine said Ledger's performance freaked him out so much when he first saw him that he forgot where he was for a minute on the set. That got me particularly excited because it was coming from Caine, not Nolan the director. Caine is a veteran actor from way back who's seen it all, and if someone's acting could do that to him then I thought it must be good.

And it was.

I personally thought he was creepy as hell at thee end of the Suicide Sauad Comic Con trailer

You mean mainly fanboys and Ayer have been calling him that. I'm not saying Ayer is wrong since he has seen the whole performance, but it's only natural the director will pump up his own characters. I can only judge on what we've seen.

No, mainly people who are not comic fans that I have been speaking to.

No offense but you must have been doing very selective reading.

Don't worry lol, I am not offended in the slightest. I do not take this anywhere near as seriously as you. There has been no selective reading or listening on my part. There is no reason for me to be selective when it comes to this. I am not biased towards Ledger or Leto. I loved Ledger and I have liked what I have seen from Leto so far and I am excited to see him perform, but I do not expect him to be as good as Ledger was or receive anywhere near as much acclaim, even if I think he seems like a scarier version of the character so far. The vast majority of what I have heard from people that I have spoken to about Ledger in TDK were extremely positive about him and used lots of words to describe his performance, but scary was not one that I heard as much. It has been used by people to describe what has been seen from Leto so far, although obviously much less has been seen from Leto's performance, which is why I said "so far".

R..really? Terrifying is one of the most common adjectives I remember being used to describe Ledger's Joker.

I remember vividly when the December 07 trailer came out, this shot was one of the most talked about for completely unnerving the watcher. He was described to look disturbingly inhuman.

He looks far less unnerving in the actual movie. But the particular beat they chose to show in the trailer without further context is hair raising.

Ah you mean people in your personal life. That explains it.

Unfortunately I feel I have to say that because some people can get offended too easily when you challenge their opinion here. Just covering my ass in case you were like that.

That's very presumptuous. What makes you think I take it seriously?

It's got nothing to do with bias, and I wasn't accusing you of it. What I meant was the reviews/comments you've selected to read must be the minority that neglect to mention it. Not that you were actively choosing to find ones without it. But since you clarified you're talking about people in your personal life it explains it since they wouldn't represent a consensus, since a huge part of the consensus on Ledger's Joker was the creepy/scary/unsettling factor. I remember it was one of the first things we heard about when the movie came out; http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/...rdict-on-Heath-Ledger-in-The-Dark-Knight.html

Yeah, there was also that loud sound effect they used in the trailer to coincide with this shot that almost made it like a jump-scare. Loved it, but that shot obviously came off differently in the film itself in-context.

The 5 seconds of Ledger's Joker saying "Look at me.....LOOK AT ME!!!!" to the copycat alone was more intense and creepy than anything we've seen of Leto so far for my money.

Oh man...that line, I was actually discussing it with someone at work last week, sounds like it's coming from Hell itself. Still sends shivers down my spine to this day. And I love that that particular sequence was 'directed' by Ledger himself, as far as I recall.

When I came out of Batman Begins in 2005, one of the first things I was struck by was how Batman was front and center of his own movie. An actual developed character whom they explored and used to drive the story. He had dimension, pathos, they got inside his head. How Gordon had an actual personality, a real working friendship with Batman, and a prominent role in the story etc. Things I was not used to seeing in the Batman movies that had come before. Things I think are necessary for a truly great Batman interpretation. Things you can't help but notice and compare to previous interpretations.

Ah, good old Batman Begins. You summed it up quite nicely here. Plus, Bale's batvoice was at its best. :o

I think the movie's quite possibly my current favourite Nolan Batmovie, judging by the nostalgia and enjoyment I got out of it from my recent partial rewatch of the trilogy.

Hopefully we can all agree on Killer Croc being on point...right?

He looks surprisingly good and this is coming from someone who was completely turned off by the look when the first images from the movie came out.

Interesting to hear your take too, man. And nice to see you around again BB.

That's why I posted what I did, while I think people are being a bit hyperbolic, the reaction is so unanimously positive that I know everyone is legitimately seeing something there that I'm just not for some reason. It's kind of frustrating because I really want to see the character and not the actor. Maybe it'll all come together in the movie for me.

Also didn't help that I thought that was kind of a clunky line and a weird choice for a trailer soundbite.

Hey, thanks, man. Feels good to be back.

And yeah, there's always bound to be copious amounts of hyperbole surrounding things like this, I think it's also partially linked with this propensity of discarding old versions in favour of the shiny new toys, but I digress.

I've warmed up to Affleck as Batman quite a bit since the announcement and I hope both him and the movie do well. Although I still have my reservations about the latter, since it feels a bit too crammed in for me; but then again, I would've done a proper sequel to Man of Steel before going into Justice League territory proper, so there's that.

Having said all that, Bale is still my Batman/Bruce Wayne, over the top voice (on occasions) and all. :woot:

The irony is the panel they chose here looks more like Bale, haha.

I'm most looking forward to Captain Boomerang. Judging from the trailer, he's going to be hilarious. Plus, I really dig his costume.

I know right? Other than Joker/Harley, Boomerang was totally the standout of the trailer and definitely the funniest part of it.

That comparison is off. They should have gone with Aparo's Bruce Wayne there.

BTW, the "other" forum? :oldrazz:

Was it definitely that one, or the one where he had Mike Engle hanging upside down with the clown smile painted on his face delivering his threat to Gotham that Nolan let Heath direct?

About time somebody called me on that. :oldrazz:

I could be wrong, but I thought Heath directed both of those scenes?

Ledger's Joker managed to be legitimately scary and funny, often at the same time. That's a very important balance to have and I don't know if Leto's incarnation will be able to do that. There's been no indication that he'll be funny at all.

Thanks man :yay:

From memory-- Ledger did both, but Nolan was on set overseeing it for one of them. He was so confident in what he saw that he didn't even feel the need to be there for the second.

Just got out of a Primus and Tool show. Both killed it, but since I'm still salty about Tool, I'll just say: Primus ****in killed it harder(as always).

Either way, it was a good show. :slash:
