85th Annual Academy Awards (2013) - Part 2

The thing I've always wondered is...

If they rehearse that show, why does every single presenter sound like they're hosting the high school sports recap every time they recite their lines?

There's more stilted card-reading going on than a Christopher Walken hosted episode of SNL.

Also, speaking of things that are tiring due to their persistence not to learn any better...

People who know they won't like the Oscars, yet watch them anyway while constantly complaining about how much of a waste of time it is need to stop. Its akin to repeatedly trying to pick up an electrified muffin totally unaware of why you're being shocked every time you touch it.

The people who did that last night did it for the attention, because the thread was crowded. Classic trolling.

Hunter The satirical website The Onion were live tweeting the Oscars and apparently they thought it was hilarious to call a 9 year old girl the C-word. I'm all for edgy humor, hell I liked the boob song and the Clooney joke so I'm not pretending to be easily offended, but there is no way to jokingly call a 9 year old the C-word. It was an evil hateful thing to do and it completely failed at being funny.

I thought the Scarlett dig in the "Boob song" was pretty messed up, even though I like Macfarlane. I think he did an okay job. Nothing spectacular, but at least he didn't make a fool of himself.

That Onion tweet is terrible, but then, since when is The Onion funny anyway?

You have a point about the Onion not being funny anyway. I'm just wanted to tell Hunter but I'm going to drop the subject because I don't want to give ville cretins anymore attention than they already have.

I’m enough of an entertainment/pop culture geek that I’m curious about the nominations and the faux outrage and kibitzing about who got snubbed, etc. And of course, I like to know who won. But I don’t enjoy the actual Oscar broadcast and haven’t watched it in years. For the list of winners and any worthwhile moments/clips, I just wait a day. :cwink:

The showed Roman Coppola when McFarlane was having fun at his expense but was Wes Anderson in attendance last night?

Yeah that was beyond ridiculous.

Honestly, I kinda think it was the reverse with the BP logic.

I'm betting if ZDT had taken more of a stand against the torture in the film, and made itself more preachy, it would've been much better received.

But instead, it was honest, and I think that made a lot of people uncomfortable.

Oh yeah, if the movie had compromised it's integrity then the torture would have worked in it's favour, I was just meaning as it was, the non torture US victory over terrorists was the safe choice for the Academy who wanted to flag wave with Mrs Obama there.

Yup. Those were recorded during the rehearsals the day before.

Were they acted responses?

Did they tweet the comment when she did the "Flex your guns" pose during the nominee segment?

I don't know.
And what does it matter when they tweeted it?

Yeah. Although, ironically, for me personally, I felt like Argo was kinda anti-us because it really did hammer the point in that the CIA created the whole situation to begin with by supporting and protecting the Shah.

Conversely, for me, by the time they got to the final raid in ZDT, I was hankering to put on a pair of star-spangled underpants I felt so patriotic.

I thought seth was completely watered down, why do you make him the host and expect him to play nice?

The first rule of comedy is to know your audience.

I hate to sound like a smug beyotch but it was Obvious Ted was CGI. Like in the film it was great CGI but it was obvious that it was CGI. It's not like they brought a bear to life in order to present an Oscar. Honestly...
People thought it was a midget in a costume, not an actual baby bear.

Curiosity behind why they would've said it?

I mean, understanding isn't the same as condoning.

They were live-tweeting the Oscars last night, so they were doing joke tweets all night. One mentioned that there was a slide of John Carter in the In Memorium segment. Another was about there being a fake red carpet that led all of the celebrities to a kidnapper's van. There was one about Sally Field answering a question about her dress with a 45-second scream, and another about a "mortified" Hugh Jackman finding out he'd been walking around with a piece of the red carpet stuck to his shoe. It was stuff like that for the whole show.

I think it was right around the Best Actress awards when the tweeted that the kid was "kind of (c-word), right?" Which was wayyyyy too far, and not funny at all.

They actually deleted that tweet, which is rare for them. They usually don't apologize for anything.

While children are supposed to be off limits, I've heard similar **** regarding other kids in the industry, like Will Smith's. But this is from random internet dorks, not a "professional publication."

One presumes it was a shot against those catty showbiz reporters who complain that because actor X didn’t smile enough, he’s a _______; or that actress Y’s wacky evening gown makes her look like a _______. Take this to an exaggerated extreme and an innocent, cute-as-a-button child star is a _______.
