85th Annual Academy Awards (2013) - Part 2

While children are supposed to be off limits, I've heard similar **** regarding other kids in the industry, like Will Smith's. But this is from random internet dorks, not a "professional publication."

The Onion is hugely popular, and has been for years.

They also just officially apologized. CEO just posted a formal apology on their FB page. That's a first.

Zero Dark Thirty might have been patriotic, but it had a few major problems. It did not deserve the win (imo, of course).

But am I the only one who thinks that Adele's "Skyfall" is super overrated? I mean, "You Know My Name" from Casino Royale was waaay better, and it didn't get a nod. I feel like they just gave it to Skyfall because of the 50th Anniversary thing. "Before My Time" from Chasing Ice should have won.

Yeah, I was referring to the Onion as the professional publication.

People thought it was a midget in a costume, not an actual baby bear.
A costume would never be able to create such seemless facial movements. Even the best animatronic facial movements look a bit stilted. And even the bear's body just looked like CGI to me.

Eh, I guess I have a decent (not perfect of course) eye when it comes to CGI after 20 years of cognitively watching films that feature it.

And Terry I think it's disgusting how people on line talk about the Smith children. Hmm I wonder what Wallis and the Smith children have in common?...hmmm

1. That really wasn't either Hunter or my point.

2. I thought it was one of the best Bond songs ever. And I'm not at all a big fan of Skyfall otherwise.

Macfarlane did a pretty good job hosting. I actually enjoyed this years Oscars more so than I have for a long time.

I loved the opening with William Shatner as Captain Kirk in the opening monologue .

I agree with most of the wins last night, good for Ang Lee he deserved that best director. The one I can't get behind and was a huge misfire was Christoph Waltz winning. I like the guy so it won't bug me too much but this belongs up there with Melissa Tomei's win. He was funny in the movie and had a little acting going on towards the end but i didn't find one thing about his performance impressive. Especially up against a great performance from Tommy Lee Jones and a mesmorizing performance from Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Just ridiculous

It was a fun role pretty much. It had depth in a sense but it was pretty comedic, which is also why I was shocked he even got a nod.

The Onion's apology:

Again, that's rare. I don't think they've ever apologized for anything to far.

And they were pretty funny last night before that happened. A few of their headlines from last night:

Daniel Craig Takes Home Pretty Good Actor Award

Oscars Fashion Report: Kathryn Bigelow Stuns On Red Carpet Wearing Blood-Soaked Rags Osama Bin Laden Was Killed In

240 Killed In Stampede After Bucketful Of Oscars Just Dumped On Stage

Somber Red Carpet Moment As 'In Memoriam' Coffins Wheeled Into The Auditorium

Unsuspecting Movie Stars Follow Fake Red Carpet Into Back Of Kidnappers’ Van

While I'm Glad I Won, I Personally Believe Abraham Lincoln Deserved To Die, By Daniel Day-Lewis

Then they had to go and screw that up.

The show was too long and all of the jokes never hit but I preferred Seth to the vastly overrated Billy Crystal. No disrespect but he is a comedic dino to me. Most of his humor has no place in my 28 year old life. But what do I know I actually enjoyed Chris Rock as host. I also dug Ellen, Jackman and Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin.

I'm not one of those people who just hates **** because it is cool. I really just find Crystal to be my parents comedian and nothing more.

Great I sound like one of those semi young people who hate old people...not my intention but whatever.

I.agree. I thought he was servicable at best. I thought Seth did alright, he looked nervous as hell up there. I was a huge Hugh fan.

Now during the "we saw your boobs" song, when they cut to reaction shots of the actresses and some seemed to be offended, was that part of the segment on the big screen which they had already pre-recorded (and acted out), or was that live footage of the audience while watching the segment?

If pre-recorded, it would have to mean that the audience already saw the number and did mock reaction shots, (which would also mean it wasn't new to them) unless some were told to act that way during the performance.

Answer me this, why do I find Macfarlane's and for that matter Jackman's singing and dancing obsession mildly charming while finding Billy Crystal's obnoxious?

Maybe it has something to do with Jackman at least having some actual talent for it.

My favorite McFarlane moment was the Sound of Music spoof during the Christopher Plummer into. That was genius.

My cousin posted on FB that her kids happened to be watching when the boobs song happened - no, she wasn't offended or anything, she was just  and trying not to laugh at their reactions. One didn't understand why they would sing a song like that, and when she explained it, he apparently asked "They can show boobs in movies?!?!" Meanwhile, his little brother was still hysterically giggling over that song an hour later. :funny:

That is adorable.

The thing with crystal is he does a lot of mugging with his routine, he's always got this white Sammy Davis junior thing going on when he's singing lol, whereas jackman and McFarlane don't treat it like a joke and legitimately sing.

I don't know.
And what does it matter when they tweeted it?

I was just curious.

Yeah. Although, ironically, for me personally, I felt like Argo was kinda anti-us because it really did hammer the point in that the CIA created the whole situation to begin with by supporting and protecting the Shah.

Conversely, for me, by the time they got to the final raid in ZDT, I was hankering to put on a pair of star-spangled underpants I felt so patriotic.

I get where you are coming from for sure as the CIA were clearly depicted in a worse light in Argo but for whatever reason the torture aspect visually trumps the fact of backing a mass murderer in the Academy's eyes.

That was the same reaction as a few of the actresses. I wasn't sure though if they were playing along or really facepalming themselves.

I'd go with these guys to host next year's.
