All Things Superman: An Open Discussion - Part 5

So I finished Vol 1 of All Star Superman and it's pretty much one of the most brilliant things I ever read. I can't wait to pick up Vol. 2.
I was kind of iffy on the middle sections of that series (I think I had hyped the whole thing up too much in my head based on all the praise it's gotten), but the last couple of volumes were beautiful. And the end of the animated movie, though a bit different from the comics, literally gave me chills (that flick had great music, which helped).

I thought it was Routh at first.:o
That's funny, my mom thought he looked like Christopher Reeve. Dude certainly has a Superman look, but I watched the pilot and man, is he boring. Not noticeably terrible, just not noticeable at all. Which is a hard feat to accomplish when you're the lead.

I half watched while I was talking to my sister and mom and I didn't notice him doing anything special or particularly interesting acting wise so I'm inclined to agree with you.

He is 5' 11" so I am happy that Snyder / Nolan did not select this guy, at least Cavill at 6' 1" is taller.

So here we are talking about the guy's complete and utter lack of screen presence or charisma, but the reason you're happy he wasn't selected is that he's 2 inches shorter than Cavill. Yep, seems like a regular day at the Hype to me. :oldrazz:

I may or may not agree with your opinion on his lack of screen presence or charisma, but everyone can agree that 6' 1" Cavill is of acceptable height for playing Superman.

Cavill is actually only 6'0.5", which isn't as far away from puny little 5'11 as you might think.

Height means nothing on screen ever since they introduced this revolutionary technology called boxes.

Your avvy suits this well.

Exactly. Most actors aren't tall anyhow, most of their heights are exaggerated. Tom Cruise is five foot nothing and manages to be the same height or taller than his taller female co-stars.

Movies are about magic and I think a lot of people on Hype forget that because the magic is being ruined with the overload of media we have today.

Absolutely. Or we should start worrying that Cavill cannot actually fly.

He cant!? Well, f--- it, I'm not seeing it now. What bulls---!

I would hope this was meant to be funny? Or are you implying 6'0.5" is closer to 5'11" than 6'1"??

Doesn't matter how tall he is in reality, there are so many ways to make him look even taller on film.

So true...as a test...watch "Shane"...then estimate the height of the leading man, Alan Ladd.

That being said the actor chosen to play Superman should be at least 6' tall.

On the topic of an actor's height..........anyone familiar with Lee Child's, Jack Reacher books. My wife loves them, and the character. He's described as 6'5" tall, and Tom Cruise will portray him on film:huh:. Now that's a stretch.

Lol

Well, it's a good thing then that about .01% of the population knows who the hell Jack Reacher is.

I mean, the books are somewhat popular but if you asked a random person, "Who is Jack Reacher?", the response would likely be: "I don't know, a porn star?"

You could say the same about Cavill at this point.

IF they're not featured on E!, no one gives a ****.

I was watching animal planet and it just came to my mind that it would be awesome if they had supes play a hand in protecting the endangered species list. I just think that would be a touching scene

For Cruise to do that role it may literally involve stretching...
