I'm a big fan of Snyder. I even like Sucker Punch, even though I wouldn't claim it's a "good" film. I'm looking forward to him getting a lot of deserved respect from MOS, only downside is I just read it's not guaranteed he would do the sequel. I would like to see him make a trilogy of this. That's if MOS is actually great, which I'm sure it is.

Kryptonians obviously have the technology to travel anywhere they want within their galaxy (our galaxy that is).. and our galaxy is filled with yellow suns.. you would think they'll be spread out everywhere, being gods to every race in the galaxy.. or (maybe even other galaxies). Why stay in ONE planet and be ordinary, when you can be GOD in almost anywhere else?

I'm not a big fan of Snyder's films, but he seems like a nice person. Very down to earth. MOS looks like his best film IMHO. I'm sure many agree with that assessment.

Because they're probably xenophobic, or think highly of themselves that they would rather seperate themselves from the rest of the galaxy. Like Japan at the end of their Samurai era: they were isolated from the rest of the world.

I hate when I miss 19 pages. I don't know which things to respond to or even to say anything. I guess I'll just go with:

Hey guys, MOS is out in 14 days, in case nobody had heard. :yay:

I don't think he says the "Kneel before Zod" line in the film personally.

I feel it will be...it's all over tons of the Zod merchandise and I swear you can hear, "Now kneel before Zod!". I feel it coming

What merchandise? I know I thought I heard it in the viral video at the MTV movie awards a couple months ago.

"General Zod sets a very high bar for whatever villains we'll see further down the line in this franchise, and at least part of that is because "Man Of Steel" makes a strong case for Zod's point of view. " - Drew from Hitfix

Someone brought that quote up in the comments trying to figure out if he had seen it or not, Drew's response was:

"I'm probably just guessing.

Probably."

LOL I feel like that all the time.

One thing that this DC films could overshadow Marvel Studios is in the cinematography dept. I swear, the Marvel movies have great DPs attached to them, only to make each movie look generic. I think Thor 2 is the only one thus far that has a rich look to it. And maybe Iron Man 1.

If this continues beyond Man of Steel, I think the DC films will look like films, not TV movies.

From the prequel comic, they obviously had all the intentions and the means to do all that. They were already even doing that thousands of years ago. But obviously something happened, something broke down, within their society, where all that fell apart/stopped.

I don't know if it's me, but I feel that Ledger's Joker, Bardem's Silva, and Cumberbatch's
Khan
are some of the most effective villains in recent blockbusters. I also think that it's because they resonate with a post 911 world. I think Metallo can have that kind of grungy-low-level terroristic quality, while Lex would have a more high-class, affable quality, only hinting at a sinister side now and then. I don't think you should be able to look at Lex and see evil. I think audiences have to understand just how deceptive and effective he is, by playing up the dual nature of Luthor. He should come across as smart, convincing, and ultimately, human. This would also contrast to the powerful and threatening form of Metallo, and the metahumanity of Superman.

I just think it would lend itself to emotional depth and complexity if Metallo killed off journalists and investigators of Luthor's senatorial campaign, leaving characters to wonder whether to speak against him without any proof of wrongdoing, or stay silent as injustice continues. It would also show the importance of super-heroic actions, whether from normal people or not.
I think Jimmy should also be a big part of MOS2. He can represent that it isn't the powers that makes Superman super, but the heart. How he converses and interacts with Clark can symbolize that.

I want the existence Metallo to be a twist. People are tricked thinking that the "hits" are carried out by a normal human being, when actually it's a complex cyborg doing the dirty work. I'd love there to be scene when the police attempt to do a "sting operation" only for them to to realize that they are confronting an invincible robot.

Luthor being the culprit WON'T be a twist. Most people would hear the name and guess him as a major player. But Clark secretly trying to investigate him CAN be. And there should be a creepy final verbal confrontation about the nature of human trust.

If you think this has a more crime-drama flavor, you are right. However, this approach can also allow the characters to "breathe easier", without the threat of millions dead. It can also allow someone else to direct the sequel, without having the burden of topping what looks to be amazing action by Snyder. It could also show Superman's interaction with the authorities, and how he handles being a public figure. I'd love a moment when he is trying to talk about Lex's hidden agendas to them, but they just tell him that "Lex has invested his own money in rebuilding Metropolis. We've worked with him, etc."

If MOS is focused on mainly on Clark, then MOS2 should be more about the community around Clark.

The sequel, "World's Finest" can have a grand threat that requires both heroes to stop it. But I feel like the amount of depth can be generated by a more personal villain. And Kryptonite should look different. :D

I guess that comment got past Drew's filter, but it does serve as our first 'reaction' per se. If not to the movie, then at least to Zod and Shannon's performance.

Agreed. I love Thor and The Avengers, but a lot of the camera angles bugged the hell out of me. Thor: The Dark World does look really good though.

Yeah, the DP who did The Avengers is awesome. But it looks like Marvel is forcing digital cameras onto cinematographers who have to learn it. And you can see the learning curve on the screen..

I think the first Iron Man films have kind of an "earthy" look to them. And Raimi's Spider-Man has a unique quality. And Singer's X-men as well. MAYBE Captain America has a standout visual aspect, but that is pushing it.:whatever:

If anything, my one fear was that Zod would come off too much of an semi anti-hero as opposed towards being a villain. I mean I like an complicated villain just like the next person, but I'd like to see Superman go up against a "villain" who could really scare the crap out of you with their presence and actions as opposed to the campy attitude that Lex Luthor has been portrayed as in recent films or the one dimensional and predictable Nuclear Man.

The problem I had with Terrence's Zod wasn't his performance but how it was noticeable that he was being directed by two directors who had two distinct visions of how the villain should be portrayed.

Plus the Nolan Batmans and now Man Of Steel were shot on film which always helps create that cinematic look. Much of the Marvel Cinematic Universe stuff is digital, unfortunately.
