I really wouldn't want Donner back at this point.Dead on.
And I'll tell all of you right now: Richard Donner isn't walking through that door folks.

I wonder how much outcry there would have been if Snyder and Co. had been emphatic that this was not in even the slightest way going to be a film where our two heroes clash when the announcement was made? I have a feeling we'd have some of loud noises along the lines of "I can't believe they'd cheat us like this", or "the clash CBM's fans have been waiting for and they're denying us!" I think they would be coming from the same naysayers who espouse an opposite view now.
Now then, what happens if the same situation arises again? No prison can hold people on that power level, the Phantom Zone is gone, so given the precedent, Superman must kill again. Because it is the same situation.
Of course. Human beings are all totally and completely logical and consistent. Got it.
I would hope that the very moment the same situation arises again, Superman will start thinking right away about how he can stop the threat as quickly as possible without killing this time, and succeed. Perhaps right after he killed Zod he was already forming a plan in his mind on how he would handle it differently next time. He wasn't prepared this time, but he could at least attempt to be prepared next time even though the threat may not be exactly the same. Maybe consulting with scientists or exploring the kryptonian tech left behind or seeking out other heroes who can come help him the moment such a threat arises... hello Justice League. To me, this would show growth and intelligence from Superman.
If you want to be snarky, do it with someone else.
The difference between fighting someone like Zod and Metallo for Superman would be that Metallo is nowhere as strong as Zod is and can't fly or superspeed back within a instant to cause more trouble.

Jeez. Touchy, touchy touchy... Have less coffee Scout.

When might the first piece of plot be revealed?
Maybe a teaser attached to some film this Holiday season?

I would have loved to see what Donner would have done if he were born into our era. I feel like if he had perfect control over Superman:TM we might be surprised by the results. I think it would actually be a bit more serious.
What do people want to happen at the end of B v S? What kind of resolution/ understanding do you want? Should Batman and Superman just go their own separate ways or should they form some kind of agreement to fight crime together or help each other out when necessary? Should they become good friends or should it be just a live and let live attitude?
So what would be the method of stopping Zod non-lethally? Because that is usually the question that people ask as to why it was necessary to kill Zod.
It could be very similar, Superman's rogues are not massively varied in their methods. Let's say Cyborg Superman (as an example) is the villain, his family is dead, his body is destroyed and now he wants Superman to feel his pain. He's as powerful as Superman, with no weaknesses and the PZ is gone.
