Ha! Deal. I love it. We gotta remember this...it's going to be awesome either way! Bookmark the post! I have my 'winning' avatar already picked out. ;)

Bookmarked. Great, this will be awesome. I think you can keep the winning avatar to yourself, since you're obviously not going to win. #shotsfired :woot:

How was that stupid...he didn't know it was kryptonite til he got there?

Wouldn't he have checked things out from afar? X-rayed the thing to see a green rock growing all throughout it? Or just x-rayed the water. The Kryptonite was all throughout it.

Huh. So Dwayne Johnson is headlining a new HBO series. Wonder what that means for his movie stuff. Is he confirmed for Supes♥Bats?

I definitely thought he should have assumed...especially if this was supposed to be even somewhat the same movieverse as the Donner movies. Heck...he could have picked Luthor off with a Baseball from a mile away, then simply threatened he'd do the same to the others unless they gave his stuff back.

but why would he assume?
How would he know that Lex had more kryptonite?
Wait are you saying Superman should have killed Lex?

I always thought Rock would make an amazing Savage Dragon.

why would he think the island would be made of kryptonite?

why would he think the island would be made of kryptonite?

I would have X-Rayed everything within a 1 km radius of Luthor after that scene in the 78 movie. If I saw even a sliver of lead I'd burn that stuff from orbit with heat vision.

why would he think the island would be made of kryptonite?

Because Luthor made it.

And why wouldn't he just check anyways? If you were a super-powerful alien that had one devastating weakness and were flying up to a strange new continent created by a man that used this one weakness on you before, why not just look at the thing a bit closer before landing on it?

I'm going to give a personal anecdote to illustrate why the use of Kryptonite in Superman stories is usually not well thought out. In 2003 I had a gas leak in my apartment. A hairline crack in the line going to the house I rent my place from. It went on for months. At first I noticed the smell (they add a chemical to gas to create the smell) but as time goes on the gas kills off your sense of smell, so eventually I stopped noticing. The gas made me very sick but it was a mystery. I was sleeping and working out in that gas filled apr. for a little over two months and it affected me in ways you can't begin to WANT to understand, or that I would be willing to get into in a public manner. Needless to say, I am paranoid about gas to this day. If I smell that signature smell I freak the cuss out. Now given all of Superman's sensory powers, you'd think he'd be able to figure out when and where Kryptonite is. A feel, a particular odor, a sense of it's radiation, and energy signature he sees with his super peeper... Something? This stuff is about the only stuff that's ever made him "ill" yet he blithely walks into situation with it seemingly unprepared EVERY TIME.

That being said, and as much as I dislike the movie... I actually really like some of the stuff they do on the island in SR. I can't help it. I actually thought some of the very things that most hate to actually move my heart. But that's me.

He used it before when Supes had no idea...he'd obviously availed himself to Kryptonian technology and knowledge in order to build the island, and Luthor put up no resistance or safeguards to Supes coming right to the doorstep. He'd been trapped before and sprung deceiving traps himself. How could he NOT expect something of the sort?

And not necessarily kill, but glance just enough to knock him out. Obviously, this Superman would never kill anyone, or allow anyone to get killed...say, by a falling giant stone pillar or something.

Are you saying there was a Superman movie BEFORE MAN OF STEEL that had Superman NOT save every single person in a 1,000 mile radius of his person? I don't believe that. :cwink: :word:

yeah but you are thinking about 75 years of superman mythology...in Superman Returns he has dealt with Lex twice....once in Superman the movie and once in Superman II. In STM Lex had kryptonite...in Superman II he did not have kryptonite...especially in the face of three kryptonians that threatened to kill him a few times...a perfect time to whip out kryptonite.

so I ask again...why would he think Lex still has kryptonite.

Put it this way...you better hope I don't. :D

On a serous note...it might also be up to opinion to a large extent, so there's got to be a way to objectively settle that.

If by opinion you mean that the fight is portrayed in an ambiguous way...I've narrowed it down to three.

Batman is portrayed as obviously the better fighter over Superman = InJustice loses
If both fighters had their moments to shine and there isn't really a clear winner = Tie
Superman is portrayed as obviously the better fighter over Batman = Kalmart loses

Like I always say...quoting a writer/producer of STAS,JL and JLU: There hasn't been a Superman story where someone didn't go..."Yeah but he should have..."

Because a prudent alien, with so much riding on his success, would see it beneficial to just take a look at what he was landing on, especially if this surface was created by a man that almost won the fight last time. It doesn't take any effort to look. So, why not look regardless of suspicions of Kryptonite?

I'll ask again, why would he so easily waltz right in with what he knew at the time, and what he had been through in the past?

Why would he think Lex still has kryptonite?

Indeed. I always found it to be foolish in nature for Superman to approach the situation as he did. Whether Lex used Kryptonite in their second encounter or not, Superman should've had enough wit to know he'd have something up his sleeve.

He had at least enough experience to be that smart about it, just didn't display any of it.

If someone invited you to their home, then punched you in the face with brass knuckles, are you seriously going to assume he wouldn't use them if you barged in unannounced??
