BvS All Things Superman and Batman: An Open Discussion - - Part 35

Question: How did you guys feel about Superman's portrayal in JL/JLU? A lot of die hard fans didnt like it.

Overall, I thought it was okay.

I wasn't a fan though of how dense they made Superman at times where they just showed him using his brawn most of the time as opposed to his brain.

And the inconsistency in his power levels was kind of irksome. I wasn't a fan of how he would be portrayed as the "Lesser Being" at times whenever compared to Batman as well.

I thought it was fine. Sure he was a little de-powered but he explained why in the last episode.

I liked that they made him caring while at the same time stern and not like the lovable boy scout.

Also Hereafter really cemented the fact (Return of Superman comic also) that even without powers Superman is still very formidable and can totally go John Carter on your ass.

You know, at first glimpse of this.....prior to the announcement that Batman would be in this film, if you were to tell me that THIS was the current cast for the upcoming sequel without telling me who the new additions were really portraying, I would have guessed that Ben was probably playing "Lex", Jessie was playing "Jimmy Olsen", Jeremy was playing "Brainiac", and Gal was playing either "Cat" or even "Maxima".lol

What I mainly liked about JLU Superman was his ability to curbstomp most of his opponents in a fight, lol.

I would have picked Gal for Lucy Lane. And the same as you for Jessie and Jeremy. Maybe Sam Lane for Jeremy also.

Well, one can't deny on how "unique" this cast is when you think about it like this...

We have a British Superman, a redheaded Lois, Ben Affleck as Batman, a Jewish Wonder Woman, a Black Perry White, and Jessie E. has Lex.

I didn't mind his portrayal exactly, but I had issues with the way his relationship with Batman was shown. While there were hints that they had a friendship of sorts, I always felt like the writers tried too hard to 'justify' Batman's existence in the JL, and therefore, sacrificed other characters to prop up Batman.

This is not to say that I hated Batman; indeed, I greatly enjoyed Batman. Sometimes though, I didn't like how Batman was the only one with good ideas, good instincts, a good intellect, and so on.

Batman is a great character. He didn't need all that extra help. I definitely feel that they could have let Superman be a little more intelligent without it damaging Batman's character.

He didn't seem that much like the same Batman who would fall into a trap by Two Face or Mad Hatter anymore. He was a little bit more infallible.

Yep. There were times when I was just rolling my eyes because it got so silly -- and not in the good way.

Whatever that means. Anyways, The Lego Movie is, so far, the best Batman movie to date so here's hoping BVS can be an awesome follow-up of sorts.

This cast is made up if people I never could have predicted would be coming together to make a superhero movie. The possibilities are...intriguing.

Not even close. I grew up on Morrison bats and I won't be satisfied till he an wrap his cristmas presents without tape. Till he can comb his hair with his fingers..etc.

Cartoon Bats wasn't up to par.

I disliked Timm's Suped until the Justice Lords and Darkseid episodes of JUSTICE LEAGUE, and then it they just knocked it out of the park in the whole run of JLU. The episodes writers and directors (J. Dos Santos is an animation GOD!) finally got how to present Superman as powerful and cool, to me anyway.
