Comics ASM #549 (Spoilers)

Yeah I thought it because it seems like an old Kingsley wearhouse he's hitting (leed's would know about it), plus the whole thing had a new hobgoblin feel to it.

I will say this: If it's Harry Osborn, I'll scream. I feel confident in the BND team not making that mistake, though (and that is something I've not been able to say for a creative team on SM in a long, long time. :word: )

Welcome to the Hype, Red Knight.

Yeah, I think a lot of us feel that way (on both counts).

Ned Leeds as Menance? Thats one person I would not mind seeing back from the dead

I think it will definitely be Harry Osborn so people don't get confused with two Green Goblins.
Or an Osborn created/funded villain.

Here's the short of it for those of you who don't want spoilers:
Bottom line, what you liked about the first three, you’ll like about this one. Sub-plots, supporting cast, a new villain, a new ally(?). I definitely liked the first team more, especially the art. But the inker makes this very un-Larrocca-like. Which is a good thing. It looks a little less slick, a little grittier than what he usually does. Good continuation of the first storyline.

Just read the story, and I'm a little mad.

Could it be any more obvious that Jackpot is MJ? Does the writing team really need to make "Face it tiger, you just hit the Jackpot" every freaking line she says? I remember three references to her being MJ in this issue alone. We don't need to be beaten with the obvious stick?

Also, am I the only one who noticed that the blonde (I think she's the one Harry's dating) has gone from blonde to brunette to AFRICAN-AMERICAN BLONDE in three issues?

Thank you, writers, for managing to be unable to keep continuity even after resetting it.

And god only knows, when Harry is revealed to be the new goblin...

Maybe the colourer needs a kick in the nads...

:yay:

Lol, I noticed that too. Well you know, back in the 70's mistakes like that weren't abnormal. Maybe they REALLY want to take it back to the 70's :woot:

That sounds cool and even though I really wish MJ wasn't a Super Hero, I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy this Issue. I can't wait until tommorow.

This was easily the best issue of BND thus far. I really, really enjoyed it. And I'm glad that Pete isn't oblivious to how much Jackpot resembles MJ.

I REALLY hope Mj somehow ISN"T Jackpot and Menace ISN"T Harry. Please do something that we didn't expect here...sheesh...

Although, it would be totally weird for some OTHER lady to run around dressed as "Las Vegas MJ" and yelling out "MJ catch-phrases". That wouldn't make any sense at all...unless she is a lifelong MJ groupie/stalker.

I also want to comment on the writing. Historically, I have always liked Slott's work over Guggenheim's, but damn Guggenheim really knocked it out of the park with this issue. He has a great grasp of the character, maybe even more so than Slott does.

I'm really looking forward to the rest of this arc. Great stuff so far.

EDIT - Btw, did anyone else catch the Back in Black reference in this issue?

I just read it... fantastic!!!

I had my doubts with Guggenheim, based on his previous books, but he's really knocking it out of the park with this first issue...

I feel like I'm 10 years old all over again... :yay: :yay: :yay:

:spidey:

So Dexter Bennett renames "The Daily Bugle" to "The DB"? Sounds like someone has a big ego. :p

1. As I said before, I don't believe Marvel is even trying to hide the idea that Jackpot is actually Mary Jane. If she isn't MJ, then it's certainly one the most annoying red-herrings (no pun intended) they've certainly pulled. Hmm, maybe Jackpot is actually a cybernetically enhanced clone of MJ...just like "Clor."
biggrin.gif

2. And it looks like Dexter Bennet is established as a suspect for being Menace (or is it the Gray Goblin?) right off the bat. After all, Menace attacks in broad daylight right in front of the Daily Bugle and Bennet is offering a fat paycheck for anyone who can get a photo of him, since that photo would very likely sell a lot of papers, which is what Bennet wants, right? Even if Bennet isn't Menace, then it's certainly possible that he could be in contact with him in order to use the Green Goblin wannabe as part of a publicity stunt to promote the new "DB."

3. And how does "Back in Black" still fit into all this?

Just read the issue and i gotta say i enjoyed it alot. I'm officially over OMD and ready to look forward. Btw, did anybody catch the jab at DC comics in this issue?

The Distinguished Competition? :woot: :woot: :woot:

:cwink:

I just read the Issue and I enjoyed it alot! The art was great and I really liked the classic Spidey feel I got from it.

As I've said before:

I absolutely despise the turn that the Spidey Train has taken with OMD, but MAN am I LOVING the new direction!

Seriously...when's the last time a Spidey book has felt this...classic?

I still think that Jackpot =/= MJ. And I still think that she might actually be Carlie. Both seem VERY eager and innocent about the whole crime thing: Jackpot with fighting it...Carlie with investigating it.

And I love the subtle and not-so-subtle jabs in these issues: Distinguished Competition, Grey Goblin, The Jack-Cave, Hitting the Jackpot, etc.

Oh, and that thing Spidey used to track the Grey Gob--Menace's trail: Have we seen him use that before?

Loved this issue.

Both the writing and the art were superb. It's good to see that Peter has enough intelligence to suspect that Jackpot is MJ. These issues to come from the relaunch have all felt like the Spidey I've always liked, not that I have anything against a wedded Spidey, but stories have been lacking for quite some time and it feels like we're picking up momentum for the book finally.
