The Dark Knight Rises Batman 3: Where does the story go from here?

That's actually a really good point.

That would make perfect sense, though I have a bit of a suspicion that Batman will get something of a clean slate.

In the Southeast corner.

Niiice.

:D thanks for the feedback. Really appreciate it. And YES. On the Southeast corner!

While some of those are really nice, it also feels a bit too fanboyish in some aspects.

How would Batman get Ra's gauntlets and Harvey's coin? A Joker card, maybe. But why would he be keeping Scarecrow's mask? That one in particular sounds a bit daft to me. It would be like Clarice Starling keeping the knife Hannibal used to kill a victim. Why in the world would Batman want to put on display an image used to frighten and torture people? Just a little too fanboyish, me thinks. But you said there for a reason so if you have good reasons, let 'em rip.

But things like the bat-computer, Rachel's gift, the stethoscope, and the previous suits are good ideas.

I agree with you that they are, in essence, elements for fanboys. But if there is a point to it, then I wouldn't be too far-fetched. Bats did snatch the mask from Crane in TDK, he'd keep it for experimentation or something? He could've kept Harvey's coin as a memento from that event (sorry, no pun intended). And Bruce did have his own version of the gauntlets right? Anyway, that's not even the point though.

Oh wow, I completely forgot about that. You're right... Batman unmasked Scarecrow in the garage scene and kept the mask as he got into the tumbler!

He probably gave it to Falcone for Christmas.

I'd rather see the blue flower (preserved somehow) from Begins than the gauntlets.

He should have Two-Face's corpse pinned to the wall.

Like the remains of Judge Doom that George Lucas has in his office! That would be kewl

Batman will put the blame on whoever the villain is and redeem himself at the end of the film to the eyes of the public. That's my bold prediction.

The more I think about this, the more I find it unlikely. Batman's name might be cleared in some way, but I highly doubt he will pin murders on another villain who had nothing to do with them. It just doesn't seem very noble or heroic or Batman like.

I think what is more likely to happen is that either the truth about Harvey is found out. Perhaps a guilt ridden Gordon spills the beans to protect Batman when things are looking dire.

Or Batman never clears his name.

I'd prefer for his name never to officially be cleaned but instead having the people make this choice once they see whatever ultimate heroic move which Batman will do leaving the people to really think "Would this man really kill innocent people when he accomplished __________".

This is something that Bruce has been searching for since Begin. It was never going to be easy, not for the people of Gotham or Batman.

It will be really interesting to see where Nolan takes this film. I wonder if Bale/Wayne/Batman will die or if Batman will just die.

Batman 3-The Dark Knight Rises

Bruce will struggle hard with the consequences of being Batman and will vow to give up, he must first replace Harvey Dent himself or find someone that can do it and support them both as Wayne and as Batman. Batman has become something of a loner, distancing himself from Gordon and anyone else who might also have their lives torn apart like Dent did. Bruce Wayne’s struggle in TDK was to support Harvey and have him take over as the crime fighter of Gotham so he could let go of Batman, in this movie he will find out how much he and Gotham need Batman. In the beginning, Bruce begins to shift more of his focus on cleaning up Gotham from a humanitarian angle using Wayne Enterprises and his wealth to fight the good fight in the public.(Similar to his father Thomas Wayne) Things take a turn for the worse when Wayne Enterprises is accused of violating labor laws and economic scandal. Bruce will have the fight of his life as he is challenged as both Batman and Bruce Wayne by Roman Sionis. This is the Black Mask an older man , rich, a rogue member of the league of shadows and his False Face Society a ruthless gang of disfigured members who have all been tortured and brainwashed. Black Mask's most important weapons are fear and intimidation. He is known for his brutal and sadistic torture techniques, especially on the face. Black Mask also uses his connections to gather information on his enemies, and then hits them at their weak points, such as family and friends. He was the crime lord of Gotham city for many years as an undercover businessman and was the original target of Ras al Ghul., Following Joker’s lead, the costume villains’ band together to go to war with the mob, the police and the Batman, trying to stake their claim as Gotham’s new criminal fraternity.
Meanwhile, in Gotham City, the final remnants of the Falcone/Maroni crime families huddle together to defend their shrinking empire against the wave of “costumes” that have invaded Gotham’s underworld. The Black Mask uses to his advantage the fact the Batman is now public enemy number one and the suspect of the murders committed in the Dark Knight. Reese, The employee from TDK who found blueprints for Tumbler (BATMOBILE) is found murdered, and Batman is framed, thought to be trying to protect his identity. This leads to an even greater pressure from the city for Gordon to capture Batman.

A new and mysterious female assistant D.A. emerges Talia Head and sparks the interest of Bruce Wayne and the public, she is secretly Talia al Ghul REMEMBER RAS LINE FROM BEGINS WHERE HE SAID THE LEAGUE HAD INFILTRATED EVERY LEVEL OF GOVERNMENT IN GOTHAM. She is a complex character, not quite heroine nor villainess but more of an anti-hero. Talia has brought a team of the remaining League of Shadows Warriors to Gotham City to hunt down the Batman and attempt to have Batman take up Ras mantle as leader of the League of Shadows. However she really intends on using Batman to destroy Black Mask.

The Black Mask is secretly also a wealthy business man and has the pull to push around Bruce Wayne and also fabricate documents and information. His Intel is unparalleled, and he is a master criminal strategist with vast amount of resources.
Commissioner Gordon knows it is not the Batman who is committing these murders but is losing faith in The Batman’s strategy. The mayor under pressure from the public, and under the thumb of the Black Mask has assigned a special task force to capture and reveal Batman’s identity to have him brought to justice. The special task force led by Harvey Bullock, and special criminal profiler Dr. Hugo Strange discover that Gordon is still working with Batman to figure out who is committing the murders. This task force is under the command of the Black Mask. Gordon and Batman learn of the plot to ruin the Commissioner’s career and destroy the Batman from Talia, who reveals herself as the daughter of Ras Al Ghul just before the arrival of the remaining faction of the League of Shadows, which have come to Gotham to finish the work of Ras. Talia , who knows Batman’s identity, informs Batman that The League of shadows original target was that of the Black Mask who himself is a former member of the League of Shadows and her father’s top student before he went rogue. She tells Batman that the Black Mask now controls the Gotham police department and will stop at nothing until Batman is dead and Commissioner Gordon’s career is destroyed.
Batman is now while struggling with the conflict of continuing his life as both Batman and Bruce Wayne or accepting the offer from Talia who is determined to have Bruce lead The League of Shadows. In order to stop the Black Mask and his gang of freaks he agrees to lead the League of Shadows temporarily. Through the obsession of Dr. Hugo Strange the Black Mask has learned that Wayne Enterprises has been contributing to Batman’s resources. The Black Mask and his gang of disfigured costume freaks infiltrate Wayne Enterprises and in an attempt to take over the building murders Lucious Fox who he sees as the brains of the executive board, attempting to frame Batman again in the process. During their attack Batman leads a squadron of League of Shadow warriors into an all out war against Black Mask in the false face society. Black Mask caught off guard by the arrival of the League of Shadows destroys the building and in the process is left scarred with his metal Black mask now seared to his skull. Batman is able to escape the building and save Talia in the process, but the League of Shadows warriors and the False Face Society gang were caught in the destruction. Behind the destruction of Wayne Enterprises and death of Lucious Fox, Batman goes full fledged vigilante.

I think it would be more likely that Bruce Wayne would "die", leaving Bruce to completely devote his life to being Batman. But the truth is neither is likely going to happen.

He probably gave it to Falcone for Christmas.

hahahahaha, now that would be classic Batman.

I'd rather see the blue flower (preserved somehow) from Begins than the gauntlets.

YES. That little blue poppy holds so much thematic resonance it's staggering. Of course, I'd have called for Joe Chill's gun too but that's been dumped into Gotham Harbor.

I vote for that last one. After all, "That's the point of Batman, he can make the choices no one else will make. The right choice." It doesn't matter what the public thinks of him anymore. Hell, from a strategic point of view, this makes the Dark Knight an even more frightening figure to behold for the superstitious and cowardly lot. The more I think of it, the more I'm wondering how Bruce has actually regressed back to his desperate, lost self. On one level, being framed as a murderer, he is still being the lost soul "desperate to fight criminals" like he was when we first saw him: in that Bhutanese prison. In another way, he's becoming Henri Ducard/Ra's Al Ghul, with his "great love" taken from him, with the only difference that he doesn't kill The Joker (the embodiment of everything he isn't). Nolan's story has been pretty much 'complete' up to this point, so yes, it is interesting to see where he takes the character now.

I'd prefer for his name never to officially be cleaned but instead having the people make this choice once they see whatever ultimate heroic move which Batman will do leaving the people to really think "Would this man really kill innocent people when he accomplished __________".

I agree with you completely, the challenge is great.

It will be really interesting to see where Nolan takes this film. I wonder if Bale/Wayne/Batman will die or if Batman will just die.

I don't think that's necessary at all. If anything, Batman should be reinforced as a force of good for the city. But who knows, maybe the filmmakers will opt for the big fat kill.

Agreed.

Very good post. I agree with some of your ideas but not so much with others. I love the fact that you mentioned the False Face society, that's something worth bringing right? Imagine a scene with these goons and the so-called 'Sons of the Bat' at war. Black Mask as the 'invisible hand behind Gotham's corruption' is another great element here, but wasn't that Falcone in the original film? Wouldn't it jeopardize established norms? Maybe that's something that they will go for, I really like it. The fact that he was "the original target for the League of Shadows" adds a real mind bending depth to it all. Bruce retracing his dad's steps in philanthropy is brilliant - that's a good way to make the character grow. The new D.A. could be Talia, but I think they ought to get in either Janice Porter from Batman: Dark Victory or Sarah Essen as the hard-as-nails, by-the-book "I'm bringing the freaks down" woman worth respecting. I think at this point introducing Sarah would be a great way to round off these 'early years' stories. The other point is that I'm not so sure if Nolan and co. would want to revisit the League of Shadows in such detail; one thing I love about The Dark Knight is that it really is it's own movie, very well self-contained, the sequel should borrow at least that. Finally, maybe I'm the only one here but Hugo Strange, to me, feels like a modified Jonathan Crane at best, at least in the movie continuity. Maybe I'm not looking at the right places. Of course, he is one of the oldest Batman vilains and would've been great in Batman Begins, but the Scarecrow must've felt a lot more dramatic on-screen. Does Fox really need to die? I see him as this Batman's Oracle!

I really want the new female leads to be Catwoman and Sarah Essen respectively. Selina Kyle would have the same level of draw as the Joker did: she'd be the classic villain that Nolan and co. redefines and establishes in full form. Both The Long Halloween and Dark Victory (Batman books not the films) have been noted by the filmmakers for being some of their favorites, and seeing as how Catwoman/Selina plays such an important role in both books, I think it's only fitting that Nolan gives us a strong female character (who can be both compared and contrasted against Rachel) that is pivotal to the story beyond being the "Great love that dies" (you can find one in nearly every Chris Nolan movie!) As a fan of gray moralities, Nolan's Catwoman would be an echo of all the thieves that have taken such important roles in his films, both from Inception and The Following. With Bats walking the fine line between 'good' and 'criminal', Catwoman is the thematically perfect character to introduce at this point. Besides, they could even hint at her connection with the Falcone family, and establish her as the new (distorted) face of the fleeting Gotham Mob!

With her, the other great villain would be Black Mask, as a real bridge between the Mob and the Freaks. But why stop there?

I'm not a big Prof. Strange fan, I think Dr. Crane did a great job reflecting the themes and the cues of 'Fear', 'Identity', 'Impossibility', and 'Modern Psychoanalysis' for Batman really well. We don't need Strange. The nemesis, then, in my opinion, should be Hush. Who else does Tom Hardy embody better? He was the 'Forger' right? And Clayface isn't as dramatic a foe as the subliminally-manipulative surgeon. Here is a character who could enter Gotham on the anniversary of Rachel's death, a common friend to Bruce, a face from the past, who has taken the steps that Bruce's dad did and taken up a profession there. I can completely imagine Bruce, Selina and Tommy revisiting the old opera house from Begins. But most importantly, with the last film having established a new "class of criminal", who better to pose a strong threat than the man who organized these 'freaks' into an impossible (and presumably personal) pattern? The Dark Knight Rises could do well to take inspiration from Jeph Loeb's other Batman story - Hush.

Hell, with a bandaged face like that, Elliot could toy with the death of Harvey Dent just as well.

This is essentially what I want to see in the next Batman movie by Christopher Nolan:

BATMANHUSH.jpg

Why not right? In the first film we had two villains who were never adapted onto the big screen before, the second film gave us redefinitions of classic villains (one from the first Burton film, the other from the first Schumacher film, to be exact). Why can't this be the best of both worlds? A classic villain, and a completely new one, never before seen on the big screen (but famous nevertheless). Besides, Marion Cotillard proved that she can play the perfect Selina Kyle in Inception.

Do want!

By the way....I just wanted to let everyone know in here...that I nominated The Guard vs Mr. Earle as Best Rivalry on the Hype Awards Community Forum!

hahaha....I don't even know if they have ever got into it....but they seem like one in the same.....so I think it would be a good battle!

LOL

While it's always an honor to be nominated...aren't Earle and I usually on the same side?
