Absolutely true. This isn't automatically Heath Ledger's Joker performance or a train wreck.

I'm glad they didn't choose Armitage not because he's a bad actor, because he looks like the joker. I'm glad they didn't choose Brolin too because of Diane Lane all this it's embarrassing. I'm glad they didn't choose caviel because he's too old. I'm glad they didn't choose Hamm because Hamm didn't look interested. For the rest we'll see.

I would love a poll to be put up, I really want to see where everyone's minds are at.

Can't we take middle lane for a change? Always have to be absolute right or absolute left?
How about "he might be decent"? Or "he will be great, but not Heath as Joker great"? Or anywhere in the middle?

No middle of the road choices either. A simple Yes or No poll.

I don't understand the Affleck hate either. He's a great choice.

I think that people remember his earlier movies, and tend to forget that this guy went from movies like "Pearl Harbor" and "Daredevil" to movies like "Argo" and "The Town". And we already know that he is capable of getting into good shape for a movie.

That shape is not very different than the shape that Christian Bale was in during his run as the Batman.

And for those of you who haven't seen "The Town" I really recommend it. It was a very good movie.

Mark my words - Affleck will be amazing. Maybe better than Bale.

Just give him a suit like the comics (Spider-man looks good why can't Bats look like the comics?) and no more grawling! It got ridiculous as early as "I'm wearing hockey pads" in TDK. People laugh at intense scenes. I don't EVER wanna hear that again! You can mask the voice without going full ******.

Grace Randolph in that video above must be on drugs she's saying that Marvel's films are getting darker and DC is starting to go lighter?! Did this chick not watch MOS?

Grace Randolph is notoriously idiotic when it comes to her opinions on CBMs.

Affleck is like Marmite.

You either love or hate.

You can't say anything in the between.

I love this move. They wanted an older Batman and Affleck is 41. I feel this is also a power move by WB to ensure that JLA is a huge hit. WB needs this in order to keep up with the amazing cast Marvel puts together for its movies. Also I have heard that Affleck might be the director for the next Batman franchise and this would set up his character for that. I mean they pretty much have to go with Affleck for JLA and the new franchise or this just looks dumb. I only hope that he doesnt overshadow Cavill. This should still be Superman first and foremost and I would hate for Cavill to lose steam to Affleck.

Ironically, I think Affleck is more likely to be drowned out by Cavill.

Blake Lively looks great in that pic

Ben Affleck.. didn't see that one coming.

But, he follows Snyder's line of casting for Man of Steel. He's an out there choice that very, very few people would have suggested much like Amy Adams, Russell Crowe or Laurence Fishburne for each other their roles.. however while these actor(s)/actress wouldn't have been the first name of many people's lips, I can at least appreciate or get why they were cast.

He isn't a bad actor despite what the casting experts on Twitter would have you believe, most of which have only probably ever seen him in Pearl Harbour & DareDevil, neither of which he was the worst thing in anyway.

He deserves a chance, he has a good enough look for Bruce, his Batman look will depend on the outfit, he has enough charisma to pull Bruce off as well & with Batman he basically just has to be a badass.. which he can be if you've seen him in The Town you'll know that.

Some of the abuse both he & WB are getting on Twitter & even in here, is ridiculous, overboard & quite sad if I'm being honest.

I tried Marmite a few times and gagged every time. Sometimes I swear I still have the bad taste in my mouth. It is exactly the same with Ben Affleck. Your analogy is spot on.

Anyone comparing this casting to Ryan Reynolds as GL is a damn fool.

A simple but true statement from me.

The guy was cast for a reason. Let it play out.

Ben affleck will kill it; I was expecting more support for him. I just hope he's contracted for a couple flicks

I have a longer post on the subject ai'll get to later, but for now I'll say that I at least like Ben Affleck much more than any of the names on that shortlist, save for maybe Ryan Gosling.

People always complains for anything anyway, people would have complained for any choice anyway. Peoples are just like that.

Hi Guys

my brother in law knows a executive in WB in the US , he told
me about Ben Affleck two weeks ago. I was going to post it
on here but thought I would be shot down big time as I thought
he was stupid for even mentioning him.

I was told this was sorted out last year and it has been all planned
for a long time but they wanted to see the reaction from man of steel
before they announced it.

From what he said the plan is that Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor are friends
but lex is head of a multinational crime organization. Bruce does not know
this, but as lex is helping rebuild metropolis he is also trying to turn public against superman. superman uncovers the conspiracy about lex and tries
to take on Lex this is where the conflict between superman and batman starts. Lex has got hold of krypton tech from the debris and uses it against
superman evening up the fight.

I would not normally post this for fear of getting shot down but he was right
about affleck so i thought i would put it on here.

Might all be B/S
Thanks for sharing. This isn't that far-fetched.

Argo and Town seems to show promise in these quailties for affleck, but yes he has too much baggage and recognition
In those movies, he was the main character and the LEAST interesting actor/performance. I don't think he has much depth as an actor. He's much better as a writer/director, but even then his work in those areas is a little...overpraised.
Well this just proves that you just plain don't like the guy. Gone Baby Gone and The Town are far from simplistic and safe. The Conjuring is safe. Friends With Benefits is safe. Just because they aren't non-chronological-ambiguous-ending-indie-faux-intellectual, doesn't mean they're "simplistic." Making an interesting, entertaining and tense movie is HARD.
I liked The Town and Argo. But they were overpraised. Argo, especially, was very safe, yet filled with problematic political stances and artistic choices. He's good, but he's nothing terribly amazing.

He makes entertaining movies, sure. But they're prestige popcorn films, and that's NOT a bad thing. But they are simplistic and lack emotional or artistic complexity in many ways. That's a different discussion though.
The general public never hated Affleck, they were sick and ****ing tired of the medias coverage of his personal life. Gets your facts straight.
Yeah, they kinda did. But the obsession with the tabloids and his personal life tied into that. He had YEARS of movies bombing at the box office.
Gone Baby Gone's ending is certainly not safe.

We just got one of the hottest directors in Hollywood for the next Batman film. We have an Academy Award winning director to take Batman from Nolan. Make no mistake, Ben's directing the next Batman film. That's why this is exciting. Batman/Superman may suck, but with Goyer and Snyder writing, its chances were slim anyways. Maybe Ben can give those guys some pointers too. Who knows.
He won an Oscar for co-writing Good Will Hunting and co-producing Argo. Calling him an "Academy Award winning director" isn't wrong, but a little dishonest.
And now with this casting choice, future Batman films will have the director of Gone Baby Gone, The Town and Argo. Ben's got that Oscar. I'd rather deal with Ben as Batman and have him in the director chair, then even get Bale back and have Snyder.
I'd be ok with him directing a superhero film. I don't know about Batman. But it could maybe do something with the genre behind the camera.
I think that people remember his earlier movies, and tend to forget that this guy went from movies like "Pearl Harbor" and "Daredevil" to movies like "Argo" and "The Town".
Because in those movies he's typically the weakest or least interesting performance. And the MAIN character. When you think about the best performances in The Town you probably think of Jeremy Renner, Jon Hamm, Pete Postelwaith (sp?) and Rebecca Hall. Argo had Alan Arkin doing his Alan Arkin shtick, John Goodman was quite effective, all of the actors playing hostages did solid work. Affleck doesn't really linger in the mind like the rest of the performances. He's a little blank and bland as an actor, he has a very limited range and can do well enough with it, but he can't stretch himself much.

I just think that Batman is outside of his range. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but I'm not confident in the choice as it stands.
