No matter who was cast the internet was going to call it the worst choice ever.

Hi Guys

my brother in law knows a executive in WB in the US , he told
me about Ben Affleck two weeks ago. I was going to post it
on here but thought I would be shot down big time as I thought
he was stupid for even mentioning him.

I was told this was sorted out last year and it has been all planned
for a long time but they wanted to see the reaction from man of steel
before they announced it.

From what he said the plan is that Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor are friends
but lex is head of a multinational crime organization. Bruce does not know
this, but as lex is helping rebuild metropolis he is also trying to turn public against superman. superman uncovers the conspiracy about lex and tries
to take on Lex this is where the conflict between superman and batman starts. Lex has got hold of krypton tech from the debris and uses it against
superman evening up the fight.

I would not normally post this for fear of getting shot down but he was right
about affleck so i thought i would put it on here.

Might all be B/S

That all sounds like a surprisingly decent sequel.

The reaction on a radio show I am listening to - laughing. Spencer Hughes said "Worst choice ever. Worse choice ever".

Not that Hughes is the be all and end all but just as the impression has built that MOS was a financial disappointment the Affleck choice may be taking on a general negative perception and thus hurt WF.

THi hurts the BO potential of WF and wasn't that was what this was supposed to be about. Superman can't do a billion but throw in Batman and he can. This makes that not a given now.

A good Superman film can do a billion easily.

Ben Affleck.. didn't see that one coming.

But, he follows Snyder's line of casting for Man of Steel. He's an out there choice that very, very few people would have suggested much like Amy Adams, Russell Crowe or Laurence Fishburne for each other their roles.. however while these actor(s)/actress wouldn't have been the first name of many people's lips, I can at least appreciate or get why they were cast.

He isn't a bad actor despite what the casting experts on Twitter would have you believe, most of which have only probably ever seen him in Pearl Harbour & DareDevil, neither of which he was the worst thing in anyway.

He deserves a chance, he has a good enough look for Bruce, his Batman look will depend on the outfit, he has enough charisma to pull Bruce off as well & with Batman he basically just has to be a badass.. which he can be if you've seen him in The Town you'll know that.

Some of the abuse both he & WB are getting on Twitter & even in here, is ridiculous, overboard & quite sad if I'm being honest.

Because in those movies he's typically the weakest or least interesting performance. And the MAIN character. When you think about the best performances in The Town you probably think of Jeremy Renner, Jon Hamm, Pete Postelwaith (sp?) and Rebecca Hall. Argo had Alan Arkin doing his Alan Arkin shtick, John Goodman was quite effective, all of the actors playing hostages did solid work. Affleck doesn't really linger in the mind like the rest of the performances. He's a little blank and bland as an actor, he has a very limited range and can do well enough with it, but he can't stretch himself much.

I just think that Batman is outside of his range. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but I'm not confident in the choice as it stands.

I definitely remember those people more, but again, he probably doesn't need to turn in a tour de force Oscar winning performance for his part in the movie since he would be a secondary character. The villain, Lex Luthor and Superman along with him getting established in Metropolis as Clark Kent and everything is what will most likely be taking up most of the time. So if he can turn in a performance that was similar to his performance in his later movies, I think he would be doing just fine.

Well people seem to forget that actors grow. Henry Cavill isn't the best of actors, but he looks the part, so I don't see why people need the next Robert DeNiro to play Batman. Ben Affleck has been in good movies, and again, his newer movies have shown what he is capable of.

The Town and Argo were both very good movies and he has shown the amount of range he has as an actor and obviously he only needs to be intense as Batman. He doesn't need to have a crying scene and this and that and a whole bunch of melodrama. Just angry and intense since it is a Superman movie. So it will most likely spend most of the time focusing of Superman, so if theres anything that fans should be worrying about it is about Henry Cavill's performance.

Didn't see that coming at all.

Although.... I have grown to like Affleck as an actor, writer and director over the years, so I guess I'm also in the "wait and see" camp.

QFT.

I can say one things for sure, the man LOOKS the part as far as his body physique, height and facial features and the manips prove he's going to look perfect in that cowl.

Very, very happy with this. Affleck is an A-list actor. I'd take him over some unknown any day. There may be many better choices out there for Batman (depending on what you want in your Batman to make him "better"), but Affleck is a respectable actor, a household name and will definitely get bucketloads of people in seats. This is GREAT and APPRECIATED casting. Kudos to him and WB!

Foreshadowing! :awesome:

Ben Affleck is not a bad actor. He is no Bale but he is a stronger actor than Cavill.

Frankly a Bale type actor would have dominated WF. With Affleck, though he is a stronger actor, I don't think he will dominate their scenes. Which is good for Cavill.

Lets not re-write history. Ledger was not exactly considered a good actor before TDK, outside of one film, Brokeback Mountain.

No offense, but your assertion is slightly sycophantic. Ledger did well in Brokeback and I'm Not There before TDK. The rest of his filmography was also "passable", and some might say he was just a teen heartthrob in a lot of his earlier stuff. Writing Affleck off for a couple of bad roles in a fairly extensive career seems quite premature.

A "couple of bad roles"!??! Even if we want to concede that the majority of Ledger's career prior to Brokeback mountain was merely "passable", that *still* put him lightyears ahead of Affleck who has an entire career of one awful performance after another. Ledger may not have been considered the highest caliber actor, but even in his less than favorable role choices I don't recall ever seeing a movie where he was straight up terrible.

Affleck on the other hand has been horrible in all but a handful of roles where he's been mediocre and, perhaps, that one role where he was actually good.

I see that a lot of people here are glad for the choice i'm glad too. It could be worse when we think about it.

Cool. Thanks for the info.

Based on the info and easter eggs in MOS, as well as the early comments from Goyer, this doesn't seem far fetched at all.

Also, I wouldn't doubt that Affleck as Batman has been in the cards for that long. The rumors of his involvement and WBs initial offer has been circulating since that far back.

Really really really bad.........Bruce Wayne/Batman is duped by a bad guy and not only that he is Lex Luthor's champion!!!!!!??????.

You and I see eye to eye.

I think Affleck can pull it off i think he has proven himself time and again and impressed audiences with his abilities on and off screen
over the past few years.
Im hoping for the best and will judge it when i see the final product.

Im kinda indifferent, he was good in the last few films hes made and hes a great director.

also matt damon for Lex now? lol

Absolutely asinine. Totally over reacting. Then it's going to be that complete 180 and all these same people will have Ben in their Avi's.

Or vocal Affleck supporters will be extra quiet if he disappoints as Batman or the movie is weak.

Both real possibilities.

I guess we'll get another look at his ''bad acting'' in Runner Runner which is out next month.

I agree. I would have liked to see Bale in part, but I wouldn't like to have this movie be connected to the Dark Knight movies. I think it should stand alone like Man of Steel did without any connection to other films.

I like Josh Brolin a lot, and Gosling, but Cavill would be easily overshadowed by those guys and frankly there will be more people cheering for Batman than for the Man of Steel as it is. So whoever they cast doesn't need to be a Gosling or Bale type of actor.

The storyline is actually pretty close to the World's Finest episodes from S:TAS. Just drop the Joker and Harley from the plot.

I like the general outline for it. I wonder who they'll cast as Lex, cause at least we've got a group of supporting actors that I always liked and thought would do a good job.
