BvS Ben Affleck IS Batman!! - Part 1

Maybe, though I think only genre parts really count, since they tend to carry people's expectations.

Looking at your list, I'm not altogether convinced that the fanboys were always proved right in the latter category. For instance: most fanboys didn't want Halle Berry to play Catwoman because Halle Berry is black. I don't think that was in fact the problem with Catwoman.
Yeah. The problem I had with her as Catwoman wasn't that it would be a black Catwoman, hello Eartha Kitt was awesome!, but she was a terrible Storm (a lot of that has to do with the writers not understanding or caring about that character) and an unreliable actress. But I remember all too well the kinda racist comments about how Catwoman CANNOT be black because that's why. Just because.
Your life will be ruined, there will be mass rioting in the streets, gas prices will go up even more, tsunamis will hit every coast, and the apocalypse will arrive.

Lord. You people are really on top of it today.

How much more does the Daredevil role have in common with Batman versus Affleck's recent roles.

Think harder.

Not too much outside of basic plot and premise. You seem to be ignoring the little bit about tone and direction. For example:

How much common ground can you find between Adam West's batman and Christian Bales? Outside of basic plot and premise. Perhaps direction and tone?

Afleck has played the clown and he's played the hardened killer. Don't think too hard.

Jesus.

That's a little....extreme.

I'm cool with Ben. Now I'm mostly excited to see what Snyder's design team comes up with for the Batsuit. I effing loved Nite Owl's outfit in Watchmen.

The bottom line is, there has NEVER been a bad actor cast as Batman (even Adam West served his purpose), only disappointing adaptations of the character based on the director's vision (Schumacher) and the studio's marketing focus.

The biggest issue for me isn't that Affleck is a awful choice (bad, imo, but not awful), it's merely that his casting is the latest in a series of aspects and decisions by WB that leave me quite disinterested in the film.

By itself, a Batman/Superman movie is awesome. But everything building up to it...

Man of Steel? An average movie at best.

Zack Snyder? An average director.

David Goyer? A wholly sophomoric screen writer.

And now an entirely disheartening choice for Batman.

That's all in my opinion, of course, but it all just adds up to me not really being excited for this movie.

Will I go see it? Sure. I'd go see a gay porno if it had Batman in it. But I certainly am not as excited or as hopeful for it as a lot of other superhero movies in the pipeline.

I'm not going to judge Affleck's Batman until I hear more about the story and the direction they want to take his Batman in.

or until I see an actual clip.

Some great quotes from Affleck's character in Jay and Silent Bob:

Holden: This is a site populated by militant movie buffs: sad, pathetic little bastards living in their parents' basement downloading scripts and what they think is inside information about movies and actors they claim to despise yet can't stop discussing.

Ben Affleck: You're like a child. What've I been telling you? You gotta do the safe picture. Then you can do the art picture.

Have I got a link for you then! :wow:

But in all seriousness, I agree with you. We could have gotten much WORSE. But we also could have gotten much BETTER. And Nolan's leaving doesn't instill faith in me.

Without a steady hand to guide him, Goyer is a bit of a mess. And Snyder is going to go slow-mo crazy in this. You could practically feel all the places where he wanted to add it in to MOS and Nolan smacking him on the wrist and yelling "NO!" at him.

Why do you think that DC broke the Batman news the day after El Mayimbe broke the Rocket Raccoon story? Coincidence? Most definitely not? They saw the opportunity, seized it, BOOM, bomb shell, everyone's talking about Affleck as Batman. They are smart cookies, they didn't want it to get leaked the same way RR was.

Other way around. Marvel knew WB/DC were about to drop a bomb and wanted to throw theirs out there first. It helps that nobody outside of the Internet knows or cares about Guardians of the Galaxy.

You had me until you said continue the Nolanverse.....why would they do that?

Well I think it is a safe bet in the sense that Goyer and Snyder have mentioned that the Batman in this movie will be an experienced Batman (If we strictly stick to The Dark Knight Returns story, Batman came back from retirement). And they are aware people don´t want to see another origin story. I wouldn´t believe in an experienced Batman I´ve never seen fight before, nor his background or his struggles he might had with a Joker, Falcone, etc. Heck, I would even start filming the first Bruce scenes in Italy, watching the mess that happened in Metropolis. "The Game has changed".

I think we going for an experienced Batman and i think we will not have an origin story. I hope Lex luthor will arrest many Superheroes and that he will become president like in Superman/batman public enemies.

This. This back and forth between the two companies is fascinating. Even with Marvel's clout from the cinematic universe over the last 5 years, the announcement at Comic Con and now this one has WB way ahead on the buzz...good or bad.

Serious question for a moment.

Why does Batman have to be older than Superman again?

Axel Bruan has you guys covered ;)

Hmm.. Man of Steel.. great moments, terrible moments, and a lot of OK moments. 'Objectively', I guess that equates to average.

But yeah, average is still better than WB superhero movies tend to be.

In terms of storytelling we dont have to thread old ground with another origin story and it creates good conflict to have a seasoned veteran angered by such a huge change to the status quo that the events of MOS bring.

This casting worries me and it worries me about the future of WB/DC movies, Man of Steel was awesome (minus the ending, but that is just my opinion). If WB/DC wants to catch Marvel why would they announce a casting decision like this? I know when Ledger was cast as the Joker that the internet was all upset about this, however I feeel with Affleck there is just so much dissing going on and all the major news outlets and website are reporting it. I dont believe that happen with Ledger's casting.

Hopefully everything will workout, but if not then WB might have a PR nightmare on the way, especially with the Damon as Robin sidekick jokes that will happen for the years to come.

Overall I believe a bad move by the WB, this sorta lets the air out of the Man of Steel excitement that was built up.

I'm ok with the first part of the comment not for the Snyder part. batman cannot be introduce in the movie without an origin story and i don't want an origin story. Batman should come out of retirement to investigate on Superman after the event of metropolis.

Totally agree with you. In fact, actually, I believe it might be the other way around. Luthor or something endangering Wayne Corp or even Gotham as well, bringing back The Batman. And since Superman is now BF with US Army and Gov, he might be sent to track these new sightings of the Batman.

Man, I hate how Snyder went so big in scale in MoS. MoS could have been ON SCALE a perfect MoS 3 at least...

it still amazes me that ssumptions equal truth.

all we know for a fact is:
Affleck is Batman
Cavill is Superman
Snyder is directing
Goyer is writing
Release date July 2015
Dark Knight Returns is the inspiration, not the source material (Not a direct adaptation)

Everything else is speculation. Lets see where the cards lie before making any proclamations as to whether this movie will be good not or not based on a single casting decision.

Why does WB need to "catch" Marvel, again?

Isn't that like an aeroplane needing to "catch" a bird?
