BvS Ben Affleck IS Batman - - Part 17

Keaton had a good voice for it, but there are plenty of times where im like "well, that just sounds like Bruce Wayne". It's like "Ummmm Bruce? Is that you?" *Batman gets all shy and jumps off a rooftop in embarrassment*

Which is my problem with Conroy as well. He has the coolest bat-voice. I even read comics with that voice in mind. But when im trying to buy into the believability of a movie with real-life actors, etc...it's way too obvious of a choice to use such a regular voice like Conroy had. Which is naturally deep. He has such a deep voice as Bruce Wayne, people would be able to identify it right away. It's so distinct. "Batman? You're Bruce Wayne? WTF?" would come into play a lot.

That's why i love Bale's delivery. Whether it's awesome, bad-ass or goofy at times. It served a purpose. You couldn't tell who was underneath the cowl. Im not saying Affleck should do the same because it will sound like a copy. But i think it should be a little deeper than Keatons. Maybe the Keaton approach but with some mechanical sound over the voice. Some vocal device.

I never laughed out loud during Bales. I love his voice. Affleck's voice is not deep so he HAS to put one on.

Why Bale's works for me is I buy into the fact that he doesn't give a crap about how crazy he sounds- he's immersed himself into this different persona and he's protecting his identity (technically the cowl is distorting his voice too). And he's got some rage issues. I buy that. He doesn't need a sleek and shiny Batmobile, just something that gets the job done. Function over form. It fits that version of the character. And I enjoy some gruffness in a Bat-voice.

Whereas Keaton was more the introvert, perpetually haunted, loner-type. So his softer approach to the voice made sense for that version of the character.

I don't have anything specific in mind for what Affleck should do, it'll all depend a lot on how his Bruce is characterized.

The Town was TNT last night.... Ben Affleck needs to make Batman movies!

^ I think it'd be funny if he had a high voice for "Public Wayne"

And Conroy did seem to inflect a higher-pitched voice for Bruce early on. Think of the On Leather Wings phone call :D

The phone call scene is great in that episode. One of my all time favorite moments. I wish they had more like that in the show.

Exactly. People working on the movie have said that the function of the cowl is to create the distortion, which would have made fans a little happier i think, if they explained that in the movies. But they didnt. So we have to take it for what it is. Bruce puts on a voice to hide his identity. He doesn't care how crazy he sounds (good point). And it's also something that he can barely switch off because he becomes a different persona.

That's another good point about Keaton.

I've never really had anything specific in mind for a bat voice.
Bale's voice is probably the only one I didn't like in all the movies and cartoons that I've seen.

Because it isn't true. In all the years I've seen this factoid repeated, I've not once seen an actual source. And I've tried looking for it numerous times.

I'm fairly certain there's an illustration showing all the cowl's functions in The Art and Making of Batman Begins book, and that voice modulation is mentioned in there.

I know in one of the Batman encyclopedias DC published a couple years back, that voice modulator was included as part of the cowl's functionality. Sure it wasn't that? Because that was strictly for the comics. And even then I'm positive it's not a strict canonical element.

It doesn't matter if they explained it or not. The execution of the voice was bad.

I just hope they don't do something silly with Affleck's voice. It will be such a disappointment after we finally got a beautiful suit.

You could be right, it's been years since I've seen the Begins book. But I feel like I do have a memory of an illustration of the Begins-cowl and its functions.

And yeah, I never took it as a strictly canonical element, but as a nerd for these movies I enjoy expanding the universe a bit in my head with the tidbits we get outside the films.

Agreed. I thought the over the top Bat-voice was funny and distracting and I don't want a repeat of that.

There was one more concept art explaining the voice distortion gadget in the Bat cowl, but I can't find it.

I am also a fan of Bales Bat-voice. I think its great for the most part, and yes in a Few scenes it gets a bit goofy. And im fine with that too :). That said, im sure Affleck wont copy it .
.

Keaton's Batvoice was actually quite soft. I think the eerie sense of calmness that it gives works very well, and would fit better with Affleck's experienced Batman than would Bale's angsty rasping.

We shall see, we shall see...

Yeah, I'm hoping Affleck can find a nice balance between the "Keaton whisper" and "Bale roar". I'm actually confident that he will.

Well, we know Affleck won't go for a strong rasp as Batman. That'll remain a Bale trait.

I'm pretty sure he'll find a nice balance between Keaton's whisper and Conroy's natural grit, all the while making it his own.

Yep. Can't wait!

Keatons "Im Batman" is great but i love Bales execution of that line more.

I have the book that shows the cowl and its functions for the voice. Jett also said that he asked the people who made the cowls or were involved in that stuff for the movies, and they told him even though Bale is doing the growling (and Nolan enhances it a bit in post) that it's supposed to be that he's not projecting. It's a device that connects to the jawline of the cowl. They just didn't explain it in the script.

Both of those "I'm Batman" deliveries are great. I'm sure Affleck will get a chance to say the line too, probably to Supes too, heh.

I hope Snyder doesn't try to avoid using the line in order to create some kind of coy humour. I find that irritating rather than playful.

The goddamn nice coat line ruined that scene in BB. I'm not sure how that stayed in.

Yeah, that really did kind of kill the vibe actually. Great scene overall though.

I dont mind the nice coat bit, i just dont know where Batman flies to after he says it :hehe:
