I don't think the "this city" line is bad per se, but the delivery was way over the top.

You could perform a lab experiment, splicing the DNA of Marlon Brando, Laurence Olivier, Sindey Poitier and Anthony Hopkins to create the greatest actor ever and he still wouldn't be able to make "This city just showed you that's it's filled with people who believe in good" sound any less stupid.

God rest the soul who dared suggest using the playground scene from DD as a template for a scene between Batman and Wonder Woman.

It only bothered me twice in the series:
Bb - 'it's what I dooooo that defines me.'
TDK - 'this city... Just showed you...'

Still my favorite live-action portrayal of batman.

But the chances are high that batfleck takes the spot.

TDKR saga, for me, took over within its awesomeness when it felt like something special when Batman didn't even feel like the main attraction of his own movies when on screen. That honor went to TDKtrilogy villains. They literally stole the show for its entire run. Bale as the Bat was AWESOME, no doubt, but for me what made the trilogy special was the use and heavy use of how dangerous and commanding presence's the villains were. Even Scarecrow was very nicely handled.

I, too, think the Batfleck will be the best BATMAN when all said and done as far as making the character more commanding and scene-stealing on screen.

We should all repress the memory of that Daredevil playground scene.

Still though, when you think about the sheer awfulness that was that scene, it's hard to understand why people seem to blame so much of that movie's failures on Affleck. If you're in a movie with a scene like that written into it, I think you should be exempt from criticism, because clearly both your screenwriter and your director are idiots and there is nothing you can do to salvage the movie.

I think it would be better to repress most of DD. I rewatch the film a few months back, i watched the Directors cut. Its just so...silly... I mean the the pop soundtrack that tells you if somebody is an outlaw..or irish...I mean the constant damn songs!!!.. the fight scenes that look like poo (and people complain about Nolans fights=), the cgi look of the film/city is...FUGLY.... the dialogue is horrible...and both Farrel and Duncan seem to have an contest who gives a more hammy and over the top performance.

I like silly to some extent and I like "comicbooky" silliness. DD just felt like a bad film when I re-watched it.

Affleck is OK in it.

I dunno, that line wasn't that bad to me as he just got beaten with a steel rod after being attacked by dogs. Kind of made sense the delivery was strange. Now, the actual line...it's okay.

The line that sticks out to me each time I see it is the "...live long enough to see yourself become a villain...I can do those things." Is it me, or does it seem like he's about to sneeze HARD!

Jesus, people, the DD thing was a joke :funny: Thought that would be obvious but I guess not. I'll add some smiley next time eh?

And Rowsdower, what's so bad about that line though?

HA! I had an inkling you were kidding IATK but I wasn't 100% sure. Faith in humanity= restored.

Whether you liked Bale's bat voice or not, it bears mentioning that they digitally altered it in TDK and TDKR. So if you liked it in BB but not in the sequels... there's a good chance that's the reason and the blame then would fall more on Nolan than Bale.

For me personally, I liked it MOST of the time. There are moments in each movie where it sounded wonky but overall I liked it. People like to poke fun at the voice in the Joker interrogation scene in particular, but to me it sounded perfect there.

Yeah, the digital tempering didn't help as it made the voice sound kind of fake. I think the other problem with the the voice was that it was alright when used sparingly and controlled. But when Bale was given a mouth full of lines or had to deliver them in a more loose fashion (angry, exhasperated etc.) it just fell apart because then it started to sound really silly.

I just wanted to whine about the DD film. i wasn't paying to much attention to my surroundings.

I just think it's a terrible line. It's so cheesy. "Filled with people who believe in good?" Seriously, Batman?

People beat up on MOS for the "Kissing humans" and "He's kinda hot" lines... but at least those lines were supposed to be silly. The line from TDK I find unintentionally funny. Just my opinion though. I still love the movie to death.

It's "filled wit purple, ready to burweve in gurrrrd".

Of course not. :oldrazz:
:yay:

The delivery i can see, but the dialogue, i think that's a good line for Batman to use in that situation with the Joker. It's just that he stretches out the delivery too much.

Put it this way...it's BEYOND easy to imagine Conroy's Batman saying such a line.

But in the context of what sounds like a death metal vocal, it sounds pretty goofy.

Best part about Bale's Batman voice that it really doesn't even matter because, wait for it...the movies still rule.

I'm willing to enjoy whatever line of dialogue Goyer wrote for Affleck to say in this script, that one line people will use to make jokes

I wasn't even paying attention to the voice...my mind was too busy processing the awesomeness that is TDK. Especially after that Prewitt building scene...

Despite my disdain for that one particular line, I still absolutely love that whole sequence. That's a key reason why I don't get the "Nolan can't direct action scenes" bullsh**. Watching Batman take down an entire SWAT team, all of the Joker's thugs, his dogs and ultimately Mr. J himself was a spectacle to behold.

I always found that scene a little silly. Batman is able to thwart a swat team by punching slow and using a Rube-Goldberg booby trap that he's able to put together in minutes.

I'd rather he just throw batarangs at the gunmen, fighting hand to hand when he's out of them.

Don't forget the sticky bombs.

Having Batman just throw Batarangs for the climax of a movie bit little unimaginative and anticlimactic, no? The more techy gadgets are big part of the fun with Batman, I thought the sticky bomb gun was awesome.
