BvS Ben Affleck IS Batman - - Part 17

Great is a little much when you're talking about Affleck as an actor. Good, yes, when he pushes it. Most of the time he's average. Early in his career he was bad.

I love Damon and don't agree at all that he is overrated.

I think fans just have a difficult time hearing the truth about these genre films. It's not an attack to tell the truth. I adore fantasy and sci fi films and I think actors should treat any role seriously but the nature of these Superhero films doesn't allow for the best performance ever the vast majority of the time.

Affleck was great in his career early on. Dazed and Confused and Good Will Hunting? He was great in those.

I think Affleck is an okay actor most of the time, he was quite solid in Hollywoodland in particular. I'm going to finally get around to watching Argo in a few days to see what's up there.

Argo is a very good movie
I think you won't mind his performance there

Affleck as always just been Affleck to me. I've always liked the guy so I never minded him as an actor, but I've always just thought of him as Ben Affleck on screen.

He's fine in Argo. He's solid. The role calls for what he brings to the table, but it's nothing to talk about. He's kinda one way the whole time. I guess that has to do with me not really caring for the character.

Argo is solid but i think it's overrated too. It didn't deserve the Oscar. I didnt think it was anything special, just a solid movie.

Yeah, i have never seen him get lost in a role.

Argo a reason some of us thought about Affleck again for Batman before he was hired. His maturity and understated performance actually made me forget I was watching Affleck. Great movie btw!

Argo just made me think (like his other movies) that he would be a great director for Batman. What he did in The Town is what made me think he has potential for Batman as an actor, minus the accent.

I think a lot of films that garner up press/awards get the overrated stigma attached. I thought it was going to feel overrated upon viewing, but it actually ended up being more than I expected. Great movie that lived up to hype, and managed to climb over the typical "overrated" remarks that can downplay a movie on viewing.

I wasn't in love with Gone Baby Gone like everybody else was but I did like The Town, hopefully I like Argo.

In real life I actually like hearing Affleck speak because he comes of as very intelligent and charming. Ideally he will bring some of himself to the Bruce Wayne performance. I wouldn't be surprised if he's done some ghostwritting on the BvS script. That's just speculation on my part I have no proof and I haven't heard anything.

It's not that. I saw Argo before it was up for an award. I liked it, but i didnt think it was special. I knew it would get nominated but winning? I thought The Master should have won that one. But it's more controversial and out of the ordinary plus the academy loves Affleck so i wasn't surprised Argo won in the end. I just didn't agree with it.

It was good just nothing i would go out and see again, or buy for myself.

Terrio's writing was fine too but nothing that should make me do cartwheels for his involvement in BVS.

Agreed on GBG and The Town (good movie and nice performance). There is a subtlety and different presence he had in Argo. I think you will know what I mean in terms of maturity shown, that makes you think of how he could appear as Bruce Wayne. In Argo you always feel like he is thinking out the situation even without dialogue. I never saw this before in Affleck and was impressed.

I agree with the maturity. But that just comes with age. He's in his 40s now. He's playing a role while directing. It's easier for him to play an anchor and let the others act around him while he focuses on directing them.

Affleck now, compared to 10 years ago is night...er knight and day for me. A lot of general Affleck haters seem to hold on to his old mediocre performances, but he has upped his game to at least a solid actor. He was also awesome in The Company Men.

It's not just age, it is an ability he never displayed before where he can appear thoughtful yet understated without dialogue.

Sure. But it has to do with age and directing his own film, as the lead. The Town needed him to be a tough guy but he was also showing a quieter, brooding side. Which has to do with experience and maturity (age). But he is just more focused when he's involved with the writing.

I saw him in Runner Runner and it was old school Affleck all over again. Over the top, nothing that great.

I didnt really feel for his character in Argo, like i said, it wasn't my favorite character. Cranstons was my favorite because he made me feel tense about a scene, whether or not they were going to get caught or not.

I dont think ill ever LOVE Ben's acting. He doesn't look too impressive in the Fincher trailers either. I just think he's OK overall as an actor..

I spent many years either laughing with or at Affleck when he was on. Hey, he's a funny guy but anybody around me would agree that he wasn't a good actor (family/friends). Which is why people went UGHHH when he was cast. It's not just Daredevil, it's because he's not known to be a great actor.

I usually have to convince people, my brother for instance, that he has improved. To watch The Town because he's solid there. But they dont want to hear it. Of course they see the new suit shot, and they're like THAT'S AMAZING. Yeaaaahh but will you enjoy Ben as Bruce Wayne? Probably not.

Im more used to his new stuff so ill be fine with it. Im not expecting greatness, im hoping for a solid performance at least but i also fear he will resort to his older habits. Like THESHAPE told me, ill probably be proven wrong. And that's a good thing. He's still not a fantastic actor though, and never will be. Heck, Cavill is not great either but he fits. Maybe i shouldn't expect anything after TDK Trilogy. Maybe this universe is not about great acting, serious this and that, just a fun time like what Marvel does.

Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth are two actors i can't even stomach outside of their hero characters. But they fit Cap and Thor like a glove.

People hold on to 10+ years ago of bland performances. I'm just saying I didn't bash the casting cause after The Town and Argo I felt he showed better range. He can be solid as an actor, but ya a stigma follows him. oh well

You're right, this universe isn't about great acting, it'll be just like the Marvel movies. :o

:hehe:

Even if he is right, some better-than-awful fight scenes and a proper Batsuit would be some kind of salve to our sorrows.

Not all of us are ready to put style over substance. MoS had plenty of visual flair, but I still didn't like it.

Ben Affleck is the one shred of hope I have for this film simply because he's improved massively as an actor and he's a great director (there's a part of me that hopes that he's a ghost writer/director for the film)

Is Affleck as good as Christian Bale? No. But then you could say that for most actors in Hollywood - Christian Bale is a tremendous talent and I actually loved his version of Batman (throat cancer voice in all lol) And whilst it would probably inspire people with more confidence to have an Academy Award winning actor in the role Batman is not an Oscar level performance. You don't have to be Meryl Streep to play the dark knight, you just have to be a capable, competent actor - which Ben Affleck is now.

Even back in his "dark years" I personally felt Affleck was the most tolerable thing about 'Daredevil' (my least favourite comic book movie) and I loved him in Dogma. So I'm not worried about his performance at all; I think he's going to knock it out of the park.

Out of Affleck, Gadot, and Eisenberg, I definitely like the Affleck casting the best. Hands down.
