BvS Ben Affleck IS Batman - Part 25

As a nice contrast to the TDK trilogy, where the villains were crucial and drove the film, I'd like to see Batfleck take care of his foes with relative ease, at least the lesser ones.

This is going to be an experienced, grouchy Batman who won't put up with nonsense anymore, and it'd be cool to watch him methodically take out familiar foes without much difficulty. I liked this part in Death of the Family, where he calmly incapacitates Freeze, Clayface, and Scarecrow on his way to the real threat, Joker. He's faced these enemies for years, and being as obsessive and driven as he is, it makes sense that he knows them like the back of his hand, and they don't really threaten him anymore. Batman is not the kinda guy who repeats mistakes.

I personally never understood what he put on Freeze. Why couldn't he just break the glass helmet so to speak? That's all it takes to take down Freeze.

Also Freeze now has Freeze powers. He doesn't need to move to freeze Batman so why didn't he use them? He used them on Nightwing in the Batman Annual #1.

Also while I like Capullo, his Freeze looks terrible IMO. I don't know why, it just looks bad.

At least it matches the New 52 backstory for Freeze where he kills his mother and Nora isn't his wife but someone who Freeze never met and is decades older then Freeze with also Bruce now responsible for Freeze's creation.

Sigh. I like Snyder's run but the Freeze stuff pisses me off since he's one of my favorite Bat villains.

Both smith and affleck got older and started families, the fact that they're not buddy buddy anymore isn't exactly a crazy concept.

Any older posters probably know exactly what goes on. There is no story here, don't go looking for something that just isn't there.

Wait, wait... goddamn wait!

They changed Freeze's origin story? Why the hell? It was one of the best origin stories in Batman comics, if not the best one.

It's the New 52. They can change, add, drop or do whatever they want with this new universe.

I get that, but it doesn't make it any less bad decision. I wonder why they did that though.

Yep. We find out Nora is not Freeze's wife. They never even met. She was born in like the 1940s. Freeze is obsessed with her. Also Freeze worked for Bruce Wayne and Bruce was kind of involved in the accident that created Freeze.

Thanks for these panels!

Well, I won't judge their decision per se, there might be an interesting story, but I definitely preferred the old origin story of man whose actions were motivated by the genuine, undying love for his wife instead of this misplaced, pathological affection.

There's enough psychologically damaged villains in the Batmans rogue gallery, making Freeze another one was far from needed in my opinion.

I have the comic. I will say it is a well written story and has great art.

The problem is the changes made to Freeze. It's like taking Batman's parents and saying they were never his parents and he was just some kid who wondered on the the Wayne's dead bodies and he said I am their son.

I do agree that we have enough psychologically damaged Batman foes and that's why I loved Freeze. He wasn't psychologically damaged. Hell he's not even insane. He wanted to kill the man who made him who he is and also cure his dying wife. That's not insane or crazy. Well it is but not like Joker or Two-Face or Riddler levels of crazy. I like to think he should be in Blackgate but he's in Arkham because of his condition.

Freeze already has a great backstory so the changes just feel like they are doing it just to be different.

They also butchered Hush's backstory.

Indeed!

Really?

I don't want to drive this thread completely off-topic (though it's not exactly an unfamiliar concept to me :woot:), but you got me curious now.

Hush's backstory wasn't that good to begin with so i'm glad they are doing something different.

They basically had Hush kill both his parents as a kid (taking away the brilliant stuff with his relationship with his mother in Heart of Hush) and he's a Bruce Wayne fanboy.

Hush looks like the Mad magazine guy as a kid.

You haven't read Heart of Hush have you?

Just wanted to take a break and do something fun real quick...:woot:

Seems pretty ripe for a caption, I'd say.

He looks like J. K. Rowlings Ron Weasley to me. :woot:

I kind of agree with NosfeRomas though, Hush wasn't necessarily the most original character. He's basically the complete opposite of Bruce Wayne, but still "Heart of Hush" presented an interesting relationship he had with his mother and his backstory in general. It was compelling to read that and see him being pushed more and more toward what he finally became. Even to understand him and sympathize with him to a certain extent.

Still, while not the most original, I find his initial origin to be better and more interesting than this one.
I made a decision not to ever pick a New 52 Batman comic and seeing all this I'm glad I remained true to it.

And thanks again for all the information!

Yea I agree in Hush's debut his origin wasn't the best but when Dini did Heart of Hush, it improved Hush as a whole.

And for the New 52, I wouldn't say it's all bad. The Court of Owls stuff is great but the only problem I had is the ending to it was underwhelming but the issue with the Owls putting Batman in a maze (and taking away his belt) drives him to lose his **** was great. Also Death of the Family was great with Joker's return. Maybe people dislike it because nobody physically dies but if they pay attention, in the end Joker does kill off the family spiritedly since by the end no one is talking to one another and everyone went there separate ways. Zero Year is Batman's New 52 origin and there is a lot of retelling but still some great things like the Red Hood Gang, Riddler, and Dr Death

Dude, you're missing out. Batman and Robin is great.

I've been recommended "Court of Owls" before. I might pick it someday. I'm sure there is some good stuff. After all it would be more than wrong to claim that pre-New 52 was all great.

I still don't like the idea of a reboot and never will though.

Might be. I also don't really have time for that right now, to be honest.

You guys think we'll get the white lenses for bats?

This question pops up every so often...and I love it! :woot: I sure hope so - NOT SONAR LENSES THOUGH! I want full on, white eyes with emoting brow, just like the comics. I think with mocap cgi, they could definitely pull that off to look really bada$$!! I know some people on SHH are totally against the white eyes, and some want lenses that cover the eyes, but I'm standing strong with the "mocap white eyes and emoting brow" camp. How about you?

As I said, probably too many times, I'd really like white slits a La Jim Lee's cowl. But I doubt that we'll get it, unfortunately.

By the way, BatFan I really like your avatar.

I love those scenes where Batman is breaking down tthe reality of any given situation. I love those moments like the one where he is telling Mr. Freeze that he's being delusional with the woman in cryo.

TDK had a few scenes like that with Batman and Harvey Dent with the paranoid schizo and during the end when he reminds Dent that they all knew what they were getting into.

I hope we get some scenes like that in BvS

Hey thanks! Ooooooh man- just thinking about the Batfleck in that awesome cowl, squinting his eyes with a furrowed brow and white eyes slits...I would just **** my pants!

Yea I know it does come up and it kinda gets old discussing it lol, but yea that sounds great. Just scanning some of those comic panels, and I keep thinking" man they could really do something original in films for this new batman"...not only that, it really can make batman look badass and scary, especially with the right look!....I hope they do. From the second up close pic of Ben as batman, it looks like either his eyes are closed or he does indeed have the white lenses

Batman - he'll give you a punch of reality and a kidney punch at the same time. :woot:

Not being able to see his (human) eyes, would certainly make him a lot scarier in my book.

Definitely would scare me if I saw that in a dark alley, let alone the criminals of Gotham! It would even help to disguise him in the suit as well. Eyes are a distinctive feature on some people. With that said, I know the chin is a more distinct Affleck feature.
