way he says it. Just a guy in a suit.
Exactly, there is no change in his eyes from those scenes I saw of him in the cowl, he's wide eyed and blinky (I mean hell, the White eye enthusiasts should have got their white eyed Cowl because at this point I see no emotion) even in the scene where he's flying the plane and they zoom up tight, his mouth looks faux angry but his eyes?... Nothing...and... I know it sounds nitpicky but I just feel batman's eyes should be very squinty and almost permanently angry in the cowl. Something that Bale was pretty good at in his movies but the best at in BB, he just had this scornful scowl on his face that was intimidating. I'm just hoping I'm wrong and that Affleck kicks a**, because I desperately want him to.

Except that there are plenty of versions where he ISN'T that way.

I mean Bale might have gone over the top with the voice in TDK and TDKRises but at least he was putting in the effort
lol what? Just because he put in effort does not change a thing about the fact that the voice sounds ridicolous after Begins. Batfleck's voice is so much better.

Respectfully disagree, Bale might have sounded silly in the last two films but at least it was his voice with very little post bass added. Hopefully though they just picked the worst examples of Affleck's voice to show in the trailer.

I've always tended to dismiss the whole "I only see the actor, not the character" so-called "criticism," because it's meaningless. That happens when you cast, it just does. I don't see Iron Man, I see RDJ playing a role. I don't see Captain America, I see Chris Evans playing a role. I don't see Ra's al Ghul, I see Liam Neeson playing a role, and so on and so forth. And you know what, it doesn't bother me because that's what's happening. It's an actor playing a role, and all that I care about is do they play it well. I VERY rarely see an actor completely disappear into the role, especially in CBM's. The last one that REALLY did that was probably Heath Ledger, who was nigh unrecognizable as The Joker.

And thus far, from what I've seen of Affleck, the answer seems to be yes.

I love logical posts like this. Rock on man. A-MEN.

I like how tired he seems to be as Wayne. Like he's been fighting crime all night and just has enough energy to put on his "public" performance.

I also think that criticism is unfair, because I feel like the people who like an actor are okay with having those extratextual qualities (film term for star persona) show forth, yet hold it against actors they don't like.

Affleck was always gonna have an element of himself in the role, but since he's really close to Bruce Wayne, I don't really think it matters.

So now we're scrutinizing his EYES in scenes that are one or two seconds long a piece. Okay. I'm sorry, I know people think Batman is supposed to be scowling and angry 1000% of the time, but I seriously doubt ANYONE would be that way when a 12-foot monster shows up and is about to fry your ass with his heat vision.

Someone told me that when Batman turned his head for a second, that it was too much of Affleck's mannerisms.

I mean, I don't even know how to respond to that? That doesn't make any sense to me, and there's nothing I can really say. If someone turning their head is a "signature mannerism", I think they already made up their minds.

^ It's okay to scrunitize someone's eyes. That's part of his performance.

That's true but I think that's something that's better suited a full evaluation of a performance. Complaining about his eyes in one or two-second snippets just feels really nitpicky to me.

Simple.

Nolan and Burton established that Batman can't turn his head. The fact that this new Batman does is totally out of character.

I guess most people think that the reason Batman never turned his neck in previous movies is because that's just how Batman is and it doesn't have anything to do with the costume.

That's well said.

I just read a breakdown of the trailer that states "Even Batman’s voice is 'comic book-y' – just like Ben Affleck’s transatlantic take on Bruce Wayne’s accent."

I don't think I would describe Affleck's take on Bruce Wayne's accent as "Transatlantic." Transatlantic is an accent that was literally created in the early part of the previous century by "charm schools" to convey good breeding. Hollywood used it as a convention to portray the Northeastern American upper crust.

Actually, if anything Ben sounds kind of slurry, gritty, and street-tough. Almost like a punch drunk fighter born and raised in the hood.

Since the trailer dropped, a lot of people suddenly tend to nitpick the living s**t out of Ben.

Even when he's in the cowl. I still see Ben Affleck, not Bruce Wayne.

I think Ben Affleck's Batman looks like money in the bank. and I was skeptical. Now he's the aspect I'm most confident about.

That's because that is Ben Affleck playing Batman.

I don't mean to shatter your world with this information, but Bruce Wayne is not a real person and therefore does not exist. Same goes for Santa Claus.

This is actually a very good post on the truth of acting in general. What most people don't realize is that the actors are bringing themselves to the part every time. Acting is about truth. The intentions of the actor in a scene aren't always what the audience interprets as the actors intentions.

If any of you take acting classes you'll know what Im talking about. Acting is very basic and simple in reality. Its the audience that interprets it as something more. There's no such thing as "character". That's something the audience makes up.

Ledger found the truth in himself to be that type of personality or "character" for TDK. It didn't just pop in his head and he decided, okay I'm going to do that.

I get what he's saying though. Some actors can disappear in to a role but others can't. I think Jack's Joker doesn't work as well because he doesn't really transform like Heath does and it has such a strong Nicholson flavor that I don't really enjoy it as much. I like a certain type of actor playing certain characters (I like chameleon performers playing The Joker.)
