Except he wasn't just a comedian. Clean and Sober features a stellar dramatic performance from Keaton.

no one was looking at that..they were looking at Mr Mom...in much the same way no one is looking at Ben's recent work and bring up movies from 10 years ago

I honestly think so. He also gave a kind of withdrawn and subdued performance in To The Wonder, which suited his character in the film. He was basically the jovial, but at times brooding, individual who gets consumed by love and loss. The movie itself wasn't that great, but I did enjoy the performances from Affleck and his co-stars.

Burton was. Keaton's a brilliant actor. That's what sold Burton on casting him in the role, not his name/"brand." The general public were under the perception that "Batman" was going to be a comedy based on the 60s TV show... at one point potentially starring Bill Murray. Of course they were looking at Keaton's comedic work. It made complete sense. We now know there was much more to it, and it was a much more complex situation.

Affleck's a great filmmaker. He's had a couple of wonderful films in the past few years. But we're looking at acting abilities, since he won't have directorial duties on this one.

Good Will Hunting is certainly a classic. Why not bring up the full breadth of his work? Surely you wouldn't ignore DeNiro's work in Taxi Driver, just because it's an older piece?

Affleck will be fine.

WB: Nolan won.
BA: Warner Brothers needs it's true hero.
WB: You...you can't.
BA: Yes I can. I can do those things. I can be The Batman.
WB: No...you can't. You're not.
BA: I can be whatever Warner Bros needs me to be.
WB: They'll protest you...petition the President.

Ben Affleck runs off....
Matt Damon: Why's he running?
WB: Because they'll chase him...bring up Armaggeddon and DD and JLO.
Matt Damon: But why? He did Argo?
WB: Because he's the hero WB deserves...but not the one it needs right now. So we'll cast him, because he can take it. Because he's not our Daredevil...he's our Batman.

:applaud

This was amazing. Bravo.

The non comic book people I've spoken to doubted Affleck could pull off intimidating.

He can do it like Bale did and put on a different voice when he's behind the cowl and mask.

I'm at the point where i find the debate about his merits as an actor for this role more shocking then the actual selection of affleck by warners.

you'd think michael cera got chosen.

I still think its a bizarre choice. Like how did they even think of it. Do you think if he had not become a respectable director and won the Oscar for WB, would they still have considered him for Batman?

they asked him to direct MoS before he won his best picture oscar. I'm sure he was one guy they had in mind all along. i mean they didn't even test anyone else from what I've read.

What's so special about who plays Batman to stem this much talk?

That's what I mean. They had him in mind as DIRECTOR right. You don't suddenly cast your director choice as the lead actor.

Let's say they had Woody Allen in mind as the director. Would they cast him as Batman?

Affleck chin and face shape is a dead ringer for the Aparo Batman.

Yes, I've said this a couple of times before. Aparo's Batman, despite appearing quite muscular, is also very tall and kind of lean/slender at the same time. He isn't overly huge and stocky. And that's the way I see Affleck's Batman.

you know that's not the same thing. if woody allen was young enough, had the look and was capable enough an actor to pull it off, yeah they probably would have.

this is something that ben asked for. he knows what that role entails. i imagine that he's pretty confident about it.

I don't doubt that, he can probably even do the role.

But it still kinda is slightly bizarre.

But one thing is certain, his directing success his sort of bringing his leading man career back which was in the toilet for so many years.

We ought to acknowledge the fact that he would never get offered Batman as an actor if he hadn't found success as a director.
