Matthew McConaughey recalls his biggest fear going into Christopher Nolan's 'Interstellar'

Speaking with Matthew McConaughey about his work in Jean-Marc Vallée's "Dallas Buyers Club" last week, it was obvious -- as it was at Sundance when he was promoting "Mud" -- that the actor is savoring every step of his career's newfound upward trajectory. He's taken to the "McConnaissance" like a duck to water, and it's because he's clearly a guy who relishes an experience.

"You know, Chris is a great mind," McConaughey told me. "His brother wrote the script, he's got a hand in the script, and this is a big movie. So there's a lot of things that have to be coordinated to make a scene work, which is different than something like ['Dallas Buyers Club']: 25 days, one camera, no lights, it's about performance, follow this guy's life, 'go.' There's no time to be 'considerate.' So there's a lot of things to 'consider' with a larger-scope movie like this where also the director is doing many things with the story. But when we're shooting the scenes, it's like you're on an independent. It's, 'Get after it,' a couple of takes, 'We got it; move on.' It's not overly precious."

But what McConaughey is trying to do is preserve what is absolutely precious to him: something formative and meaningful, a professional adventure that will remain something he'll carry with him the rest of his life. And being a cog in a major production wheel like "Interstellar," even if it's a leading man cog, brings with it the danger of losing that kind of grace note.

"What I've gotten out of the last two years that's been so rewarding to me is I've been getting these experiences, man, just feeling like I'm in the clay, man, I'm deep in, man, I'm in it," he told me, talking with his hands for emphasis. "So going into a big movie I had a bit of fear, going like, 'Was it so much of a machine that I'm going to still be able to have an experience?' So that's what I'm working on, that I am getting. Because I'm holding on and saying, 'No, I'm still going to have an experience today. I still had an experience on Friday.' I'm serving his story but I'm still having a personal experience. And that was my biggest fear, or biggest trepidation going into it, but I have to say, I'm getting one out of it."

The hotly anticipated film is certainly high on the radar for filmgoers given the man behind the camera, but in front of the camera, it promises to be a culmination of the last few years in McConaughey's career, the coronation of a rebirth. That moment in and of itself will certainly be an "experience" the actor will also cherish.

So he has a theme. Cool. And it seems like a re-invented sound for Interstellar, which will probably end up to be copied by others ala his TDK Trilogy stuff.

Zimmer is completely right that the sound elements from the TDK trilogy along with Inception have seeped into other media. It's time to reinvent.

That's about the best thing he could have said. The typical, minimalist soundscape he created and propagated in the industry has become overbearing and has saturated the market. I'm a bit skeptical that he'll follow through on that and make something truly unique considering that that sound is virtually his bread and butter. He hasn't deviated very much from it in some time.

Some pictures from the Iceland shoot.

Filming in Alberta and Iceland under the faux title, Flora’s Letter, Christopher Nolan’s top secret blockbuster due for November 2014 release, employed Eagle Camera Support System’s newest addition with tremendous success. The Alpha Stabilized remote head system’s conversion to IMAX format was both quick and smooth, and it’s durable construction gave production reliable razor sharp accuracy in extreme conditions. Eagle CSS worked closely with UK company Alpha Grip while in Iceland and is proud to have the Alpha Stabilized remote head system as another top-notch motion camera support solution.

Alicia Vela-Bailey, the stunt double for Anne posted these on her twitter.

I feel like this could be Nolan's most CGI-heavy movie ever, or he could totally surprise us and have the least CGI of any of his films. The locations look so incredibly beautiful, they look like special effects without having to do a single thing.

Depends on who he decides to work with really. I mean this is the same guy responsible for much of the music in the Lion King!

Pirates of the Caribbean definitely has more of a memorable, hummable theme as well.

For AnneFan, but I guess you have already seen these.:woot:

She is looking great.:hrt:

I hope we see magazine covers like this one when they start to promote this film.:hehe:

Thanks. I saw those pics 1 hour after they were posted onto Daily Mail. They usually have this stuff up first. :oldrazz:

I set up a tumblr account and posted the pics on there. The one with Rachel Zoe is the best. She tweeted: "With gorgeous Anne at tonight's #pinkparty2013 for Breast Cancer Awareness month." Here's what Zoe posted:

Might be a little too cold to wear this sort of attire in Interstellar. :hehe:

After seeing Gravity, I am in the zone for more spacey, science movies.

Darn it... Anne's hair hasn't really grown out any. :csad:

I was hoping for long, wavy hair in this movie.

She's probably letting it grow out slowly. Hair gets weird and awkward if you don't shape it as it grows out.

If they wanted her to have long and wavy hair, there's always wigs. :oldrazz:

Hello Brand. Hello Cooper. Nice space shoes.

Was just about to post the pics. Set stuff finally. :applaud

After just seeing the boots I want to see Anne in this full space suit outfit thingy badly.

I like her pixie look.

She looks good with short hair, but she looks better with longer hair. I think she's keeping it trim for the Interstellar shoot, and then hopefully grows it out after.

I suppose being an astronaut , having short hair is much more practical.

That's true. But Hathaway's hair is even shorter than Sandra Bullock's in Gravity. Hathaway looks more Goth in those BTS photos than anything else...

So near the WB lot? Photo shoot, perhaps? Character posters and stuff etc.

Nope, they are filming at this location-

"We are a large facility, maintaining a huge cold storage warehouse space as well as a high production ice dock and ice storage facility on 3 acres of land. All 5 of our freezers have undergone remodeling and retrofitting in accordance with Division 88 earthquake requirements of the City of Los Angeles. Since the purchase of the property in 1984, remodeling and modernization has been a continuous effort. All of the coils, fans, and racks in our 5 freezers are of the highest quality, and have been recently installed. Currently, our freezers contain a total of 1,648,000 cubic feet of storage space."

Huddled together just before the first of this year's awards-season roundtables got underway at the historic Mack Sennett Studios in Silver Lake, the six invited actors were eager to discuss one thing: Christopher Nolan. "Is he a big guy?" one of the participants asked Matthew McConaughey, who was taking a break from shooting the director's Interstellar on the Sony lot. Queried another, "Does he talk a lot?" McConaughey, 43, demurred as he joked with his Dallas Buyers Club co-star Jared Leto.
:hehe:

Maybe. In any case I have liked the short hair and I'm used to it. It will be an iconic look for her. Receiving her first Oscar, etc. Now as an Annestronaut. :hehe:

Also about those pics up there of Anne at the cancer event. Now 'insiders', aka haters with an agenda, claimed she was rolling her eyes and told people to stay away. A claim which has been denied, and really, look at her sitting next to Rachel Zoe. She just looks sooooo miserable. :whatever:

As Pink Party publicist Alexandra Lippin said "Anne could not have been nicer and was absolutely lovely throughout the evening."
