Chapter 37- “One of Us, One of Them” – Discussion Thread 9/29/08

I agree about The German being shafted, so much potential. :csad:

I assume that the cloning thing IS what it looks like, Zimmerman did think Tracy was Barbara (Most likely another clone). Maybe Zimmerman has powers? I can see him as a Mr Sinister type figure, a genius with biology and genes.
Or Dr Zimmerman could be like that doctor at the sperm lab who replaced the donations with his own. :p

Edit: Actually I don't think I mind the idea of him fathering a lot of kids through some sort Eugenics programme.

Nikki/tracy/jessica/'personality of the week' should be like triplicate girl/multiple man! It would fit with her multiple personalities but I don't expect the writers to be that smart

the term clone makes it sound like one of them is the real one and the others are just copies, but I think they were all genetically engineered to be superpowered women when they grow up, without being actually "clones" of any one person. They are all pretty much exactly the same, but if they aren't copies of someone alse, are they still clones?
I'm confused.
still, I really liked this episode a lot

Killing the German was just too lame in all honesty...and he didn't even get a chance to show how awesome his powers were :down

Not to mention what are the writers thinking: Hi I am the German, I have metal powers yet I will waste my time trying to unlock the vault using the code instead of just rippind the door off with my powers

thats what i was thinking i was just telling a friend they should just make her like Madrox. He sent out a bunch of different "dupes" of himself to go out and experience different things...

I was completely disgusted and irrate when the German was just offed by this Knox numbnut. Good god people. If the German were a third as proficient as Magneto is in comics, he could have mopped the floor with Sylar and every other super powered person. Instead, he gets killed by a loser with Caliban's power (empathic strength increase).

Then I got even more ticked off when Sylar just reverted back to being a one dimensional character. If all he turns out to be is a sociopath who collects powers then he is boring. Not to mention, at some point he just becomes an all powerful character, which is even more boring. For God's sake, who besides the Haitian or maybe Peter is even in his league at this point?

I was hoping to see Sylar at least spend a little bit trying to play the part of a reformed monster. But no...first chance he gets, he's cutting Jesse's skull open. Yay. Creative writing there guys. Good to see you try something different and engaging.

I don't know, in the GN's, both of the characters that had dupe making powers made copies of themselves, but the dupes didn't have other powers...hmmm, still, at least now the whole Nikki thing is slightly less confusing than in the past.

Wow, I can't believe people cared about The German? How ridiculous. lol He was a bit character so oh well....there are eight more villains out there!!

Super, I think it was because the German was introduced... given this incredible potential to be a bad guy on Sylar's level... and he's just killed to make Knox look like a bad ass... then that doesn't even pay off because Sylar just flicks his hand in his direction and fight over.

he wasn't that incredible, he couldn't even rip the safe door off, he had to manipulate the lock to get it open. Apparently his powers were not on a Magneto-level, more like Uri Gellar level

^^Actually he is VERY powerful. The German was included in some of the graphic novels and he was a lot more powerful than he was portrayed in the show...I think the directors probably toned it down, perhaps for budgetary reason ....who knows? But he is pretty powerful and took out a group of gaurds EASILY. don't know why he couldn't do this to Knox.

didnt knox catch him a bit off guard. maybe im remembering wrong but werent they just talking and then knox attacked him. it was kind of a sucker punch.

Yeah... to make Knox seem smarter and faster than the usual guy with super strength. And to add that his character really hates the company and wants revenge.

I too thought killing the German was a wasted opportunity, same with Jesse. These guys went down way too easy and didn't do enough that screams level 5 guy here.

As for Sylar, I think this is actually interesting now. I'm finally beginning to understand his power is represented on a few levels. He figures out how things work and has a desire to know more, or rather as much as possible. Isn't this the basic notion of man? To know all the answers of the universe, to understand it all? And the killing makes perfect sense; his desire to kill, his thirst, makes him like a vampire. It reminds me of Morbius from Spider-Man or even Interview with the Vampire. Might it be possible that he can acquire powers through other means eventually?

Maybe if someone has X-ray vision and he gets it he wouldn't have to chop of heads anymore...

Exactly. The German was shown to be far more incredible in the novels. Then we see him and he is offed by the Caliban ripoff Knox. Who is then casually dismissed by Sylar. These guys are supposed to be the really upper level bad guys who are so dangerous the company removed them permanently from the world in Level 5, and yet they act like little pathetic two bit thugs.

It was an ok episode. I don't understand why Sylar returned with Noah to level 5 or why Sylar didn't ask why was given away. I don't like the 3rd son thing. Looking forward to, two peters in the future. Micah hit puberty!

Something came to mind, it always been that when the Haitian's around you lose you powers? I know he erases memories but I don't remember powers getting shut off when he's around.

Knox should have lost all his strength since there was nobody around to feed off of.

He always had the power to do that. In season one he stood around Hiro in the future so he wouldn't time skip.

Why are people saying Tracy and Niki are clones? Why couldn't it just be artificially inseminated twins or triplets who got all messed with.
Because Zimmerman said I created you:huh:

Also is Season 1 when Matt was on the stakeout at Primatech he was trying to read HRG's mind while the Haitain was around and he couldn't...it was just static.
