Chapter 47 - "Duality" - Discussion Thread 12/15/2008

first things first..... what was the ****ing point of 'Captain America'? what a ****ing waste of a character, build him up then SNAP dead before anything can really happen with him.

BUT that was the only downer in the whole episode for me.

LOVED-
Hiro's little bow before he knocked tracy on her arse.
Worf as Prez!

I know but my point was that Ando was given a power only to remain the lame side kick:csad: So the point of him getting a power was nullified. Poor Ando. But wasn't Hiro pointing a sword or something at Ando and then Ando zapped him and Hiro fell over in the future???
his power doesnt necesarily make him a useless sidekick. Have you ever read or seen the X-men villian Fabian Cortez? He had the same exact powers and could do a bit with it. Ando could theoretically supercharge a person to the point where they cant control their powers and become a danger to themselves and those around them. Think of what was happening to Meredith in this episode but on a bigger scale.

I don't remember "Captain America" being built up at all. He got his power, threw a chair then this episode he got snapped by Knox.

Nathan isn't out of character IMO. He accepted the idea that in a world full of superhuman soldiers or heroes they could prevent multiple wars and disasters. It would be better for mankind. So he worked towards that. When that was ruined by Pete and the villains, and the formula was gone meaning no super soldiers and no heroes, Nathan likely understood that the remaining superhumans should be removed from society. It is likely that those who are willing to be heroes will work for him somehow, and those who are villains or refuse will be detained or eliminated. Why would you want people with superhuman powers running around unchecked doing whatever they want? You wouldn't. So the answer is...detain them. Remove them from society so they can't hurt others.

If Sylar is really dead I will be ticked. I wouldn't mind having him be gone for a while though. I'd leave him gone for all of "Fugitives" then put him in the season finale as a cliffhanger before bringing him back for next season. Despite what some people constantly cry about, Sylar is an incredible character.

What a ****** last ep before break. Knox getting killed by a stupid anorexic character. Pretty sure he had a lot more potential then Nikki number 2. Nathan selling out, once again. This didn't happen in season 1. Sylar holding people hostage for the fifth time. It was kind of interesting though, he seemed Joker-like in a way. Ando/Matt/Daphne interaction is horrible. I don't know if they're trying to be funny or maybe they just act really bad together.

On the plus side of things Mohinder almost died and that had be hopeful during the ep. I don't think Peter has the ability to fly. It seemed like they hinted at people picking their own power (whoever injected the formula) and I think Peter will find out in "Fugitives" that he has his old power back. I hate Ando with a passion but his power is pretty badass. Also, to the guy above me, Sylar isn't dead. They just casted his father, he's coming back. I doubt they'd kill off their most popular character, it's Heroes, it's predictable.

One nice first season with an anticlimatic ending, lame 2nd season, lamer 3rd season. And Worf as Prez.

Seriously, people... have you noticed that HEROES is all set-up and NO payoff?

ill say it... since my expectations were low i actually enjoyed the finale for this arc

I thought this entire volume was pretty bad. Not as bad as the last one (season 2) but the show isn't what it used to be. They built up this volume to be an epic good vs. evil thing and I thought there would be actual fights. Instead we got, Peter kocking over a few tables and Sylar acting like the Joker. The only part I liked was when Hiro punched Tracy for calling him Pikachu. I laughed at that. Hiro still remains the only character I am remotely interested in. Peter could have been this great hero and a real pain for Sylar but they keep messing him up. First they make him lose his memory, then take him to the future, then take away his powers. The only thing I am liking is the relationship between Peter and Nathan. Nathan changed pretty quickly, IMO. He was brotherly toward Peter in the jungle and then all of a sudden he turned into his father. I don't get it. Anyway, the preview for the next volume looks decent. Should be interesting to see the government getting involved and snatching up all the heroes/villians.

I think you have andos ability all wrong
Ando powers are not just accelerating other abilitys.. I think he has a kinetic energy ability... but his Energy also Amps up someones ability as well.. Becuase if you remember when hiro went into the future ando threw a kinetic energy blast at him...
That's my understanding of andos ability

I dont know why the writers are saying Sylars dead when

We have pictures of him in vol.4 with his new sidekick

According to the producer's apparently Sylar is really dead and will not be coming back for future seasons.

Thats ********

Well, technically, he's dead as long as that piece of glass is stuck in the back of his head. :oldrazz: But as for not coming back? According to E! Online, that's not the case at all:

Sylar's Not Dead: Yes, Sylar's healing power was deactivated, and yes he was in the exploding building when Meredith went kablooey, but no, he ain't dead. He'll emerge from the rubble and set off on a quest to find his powers. And Angela told the truth (believe it or not) when she said he was decidedly not the product of a humble watchmaker and a woman who collected snow globes.

There's also some other tidbits:

That Death Reset: The death reset I've been promising was not Elle. The death I'm referring to has not happened yet, and after this episode I'm more glad than ever that the writers are giving the character a second chance—because she rocks.

Hiro on Hold: Even though Arthur took his native abilities, Peter can now fly, thanks to a timely injection of the formula. Hiro's powers, however, will remain offline for the time being. Good news for the anti-time-travel faction of the fandom!

I'm guessing the death reset may refer to Meredeth. As for Peter, I hope they aren't making it so that he can only fly now. It obviously makes it so the whole "brother vs. brother" angle between himself and Nathan becomes more pronounced and prevents him from becoming too powerful, but even so, it still kind of sucks.

And it also sucks that, while they won't be resorting to time travel in the foreseeable future, that Hiro will be powerless for the volume. Guess they want to go through the whole "Can one be a hero without powers" storyline with Hiro just as they did with Peter this go around. Not to mention go through another way of causing tension between the "dynamic Japanese duo."

Honestly, it was pretty much the best episode of the volume, and hopefully the trend continues on for the fourth volume.

I have to pull a Scruffy...

Second.

According to the producer's apparently Sylar is really dead and will not be coming back for future seasons.

If they said that... they were just doing the wank off gesture as they said it.

I don't remember "Captain America" being built up at all. He got his power, threw a chair then this episode he got snapped by Knox.

Then you probably don't ever watch any of the commercials for the show...

Because they made it seem like the Heroes were going to have to fight a bunch of soldiers that each got the formula and now were protecting Pinehearst.

Despite what some people constantly cry about, Sylar is an incredible character.

Despite what some people keep repeating... he hasn't been an incredible character since season one. Season two he was just a black mark on the writers' record... showing how they will damn the story if it helps out just one character that is popular. Then in season three his character depth was completely removed in an attempt to try and change the character into a good guy so there would be reason to keep him around and the fans would stop asking, "why are people keeping this horrible bad guy alive when they know he'll kill everyone?"

The hunger turns Sylar from an interesting case of a normal guy who would do anything to be special... to some stupid story of a guy who isn't in control of his actions and sooooooob soooooob sooooooob. If this story of him having the hunger was so natural and setup from season one episode two... then why did they need to horribly retcon his timeline to make it work?

Suddenly it goes from, Sylar taking the power to show off to Chandra... to Sylar sitting around.... then trying to kill himself.... meeting Elle.... being pushed to stealing another power that he has never used before... even though it was a useful one... also mangling two other characters in the process... now Elle is a nice girl who cares about other people.... and is a full agent... even though her first mission was watching Claire during the span of season one... HRG is now an idiot who creates Sylar...

Seriously, people... have you noticed that HEROES is all set-up and NO payoff?

Scruffy: Second.

Find his powers? What powers does he need to find?

I absolutely loved this episode! it was so exciting and such a thriller. I can't wait for Volume 4: Fugitives.

I think that Arthur may have done a serious amount of tampering with Nathans brain during their interactions before his death. Perhaps when Nathan came to see him in "It's Coming". This just seems very odd for Nathan to make such a change in such a short period of time, unless Arthur persuaded him to.

Why didn't HRG just put Meredith in a headlock and make her pass out???

Why didn't HRG just put Meredith in a headlock and make her pass out???

So that she can burn his arms off, when her natural reaction to being strangled (grabbing what's strangling her) kicks in?

I disagree. At least in season 3, it feels like it's been all payoff with no setup. Thus, it just feels like random stuff happening all over the place. While I was quite entertained with the episode, I just found it a tad bit disconcerting how quickly and neatly the various subplots were resolved.

So that she can burn his arms off, when her natural reaction to being strangled (grabbing what's strangling her) kicks in?
Risking a burn to save yours and her life or waiting until she consumes all the oxygen or burns him anyways? I have been passed out by someone before and I didn't struggle because I knew the situation. You sit down, cross your arms and take deep breaths and then hold your last breath. They put their hands around your neck, blood flow is slowed down to your head and your pass out.
