Didn't I read that cap 2 had 6 weeks? Why wouldn't xmen get 6?
I believe the reason why China limits how long foreign films run is to protect their domestic film industry.
Disney was probably able to negotiate a longer window. The window is usually 4 weeks but some films are able last longer. I believe IM3 got longer than 4 weeks too.
So DOFP is only getting 4 weeks in total?
The US doesn't control its releases like that or does it ?
I think it's also that X-Men featured Fan Bing Bing who's huge in China.I find it interesting that DoFP surpassed TASM2's gross in China before it did the United States, especially given how on the TASM2 people were saying Spider-Man falling behind the other Marvel heroes was a uniquely American phenomenon.
Should be massive.Looking at that table one has to wonder what AoU will bank.
Highest grossing U.S movies in China:
1. Avatar (~$224 million)
2. Transformers: Dark of the Moon (~$179 million)
3. Titanic 3D (~$157 million)
4. Iron Man 3 (~$121 million)
5. Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier (~$116 million)
6. X-Men: Days of Future Past (~$112 million)
7. Pacific Rim (~$112 million)
8. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (~$104 million)
9. Kungfu Panda 2 (~$99 million)
10. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (~$94 million)
11. Marvel's The Avengers (~$93 million)
12. Life of Pi (~$92 million)
13. Men in Black 3 (~$84 million)
14. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (~$77 million)
15. Inception (~$77 million)
gogogo DOFP
t:Yeah it's interesting. Looking through Spidey's foreign numbers, a lot of them seem similar to how it performed domestically: very front loaded. It still did well internationally because it raked in a lot on it's opening, and because there are certain countries that just seem to love it (looking at you, Japan). It seems like Spidey can always find money somewhere or other. But the numbers aren't as good as they could have been if it had the "legs" of something like Cap2.I find it interesting that DoFP surpassed TASM2's gross in China before it did the United States, especially given how on the TASM2 people were saying Spider-Man falling behind the other Marvel heroes was a uniquely American phenomenon.

Oh yeah don't get me wrong, Cap 2 had unusually good legs, but I still think Spidey appears to have been more front-loaded than a lot of those other movies too. But admittedly that's just from quickly eying the foreign stats -- I don't know how the actual math breaks down.Cap2 is more an anomaly. Thor movies, Cap1, FC and more havent reached the same success as Cap2 in USA, so its just a pattern.

EDIT: Actually going back and looking more carefully a lot of those others seem to have been similarly front-loaded. But I guess with Cap2, it shows that it's possible to do better.
