DC Universe Online

I really need to get back on this game.

Here's a video of this year's Halloween styles and base item. Been trying to farm the event instance trying to get the most sought base item Teekl, the cat. Two ways of getting him, rare drop in the event or 100 spook bits in the seasonal vendor. You can earn 10 spook bits a day (6 from event, 4 from open world mission). Of if you have money to spend, 50 spooky bits from the marketplace. Cost 600 Daybreak Cash (PC), Loyalty Points (PS) not sure what's the currency is called on Xbox One version. So that will run you $12 dollars.

The Witching Hour Halloween events return to DC Universe Online

October 3, 2016 1 Comment

While it’s been Halloween in the stores for at least two months already, the holiday festivities are just getting started in MMORPGs now that it’s actually October. Case in point: DC Universe Online has already begun rolling out its spooky celebrations as part of its latest content patch.
“The Witching Hour, DCUO’s Fall Seasonal Event, has returned once again! It’s up to you, heroes and villains, to head to the streets of Gotham City and inside the Midnight Masquerade Nightclub and see if you can get a handle on the horrors that are haunting it. Heroes, you’ll look for the Phantom Stranger inside the East End Safehouse; villains, find Tala inside The Tap Room in Burnley. They will have further instructions for you! Each day of the event, look for The Witching Hour in your Mission Journal; complete the mission and earn Spooky Bites, which can be used in Skeets’ Boo-tique for the latest in scare-wear, tricks, treats, and creepy items for your Base or League Hall.”
Don’t actually feel like playing the game to collect the new in-game currency known as Spooky Bites? You can buy them straight from the cash shop because of course you can. They’re on sale at a rate of 50 Bites for 600 cash shop currency, which works out to about $6.

Daybreak is cutting out game cards

October 4, 2016 21 Comments

If you’re a big fan of buying game cards for Daybreak’s various online offerings, you should go snap them up now before they’re gone. Daybreak has officially announced that it’s getting rid of game cards as of November 8th, 2016; no more grabbing PlanetSide 2 or EverQuest II cards when you’re in the checkout line.

Even if you find them around after November 8th, the cards will no longer activate, so you’ll be out of luck.

Any cards you already have can still be redeemed, and you can also convert existing game currency into the new H1Z1: King of the Kill Crown currency through the end of 2016. Cards cannot be used on consoles, however, even previously purchased cards,

so players who enjoy Daybreak titles like DC Universe Online on consoles will be out of luck. If you’ve got a few cards yet to be redeemed in your desk drawer, now is the time to take care of them.

DC Universe Online recaps the first two parts of Amazon Fury

October 18, 2016 Leave a comment

It’s almost time for DC Universe Online to finish up its Amazon Fury storyline, but do you even remember where the storyline was going? It’s all right if you don’t. No one will think less of you for it.

Heck, the developers won’t even think less of you for it; they’ve put together a specific recap for everyone who needs a refresher on what the first two parts of the storyline covered.

If you want an even briefer recap, Wonder Woman’s mother led an attack force against mortal humans due to mind control from Ares and Hades, making for an Amazon civil war that then led to a deific war and now leaves players scrambling to stop Circe and Ares from dethroning Zeus himself. In short, it’s a lot of antics. Check out the recap, and also check out the trailers for the first two story installments to get back up to speed in a visual format.

DC UNIVERSE ONLINE SHOWS OFF THE NEW GEAR OF EPISODE 27

October 25, 2016 3 Comments

Gear is important, even in DC Universe Online. Sure, the idea of collecting stat upgrades with equipment doesn’t exactly mesh with the fiction, but you can always look at that as the purely game-oriented side of things. What’s more important is that it allows characters to develop their own iconic styles befitting of proper superheroes. That’s part of why the game’s Episode 27 update will have the best gear available on vendors, allowing players who work toward vendor gear the assurance that they will eventually get all of the good stuff. Meanwhile, dropped gear will serve as upgrades while you earn the vendor gear.
The two options will also offer you two charming new looks. The Fallen God gear is a heavily stylized Superman-inspired set of gear, complete with glowing areas on the costume pieces. Meanwhile, the Gorgon Slayer style features snakeskin motifs and a more Grecian look for players aiming more toward the lore of the Greek deities bookending the Amazon Fury storyline. Both styles will be available when the next patch drops, although you can check out a few screenshots just below.

DC Universe Online caters to soloers and small-groupers in episode 27

October 31, 2016 Leave a comment

When DC Universe Online’s 27th episode arrives to wrap up the Amazon Fury series, soloers and small group players won’t be left out.

Daybreak has a new dev blog out today surveying three of those small encounters (with lore details, not mechanics): the solo Seeing Shades Again content, the two-man duo content called Raising Hades, and Underworld Trials, a four-man operation. All three have minimum combat ratings of 166.

Previously, Daybreak has discussed both the storyline and the changes to gear and progression coming in the update. It promises details on the larger-scale 8-man raids next week. Episode 27 will mark the beginning of the studio’s transition from monthly episodes to larger, spaced-out content drops (independent of regular patches).

As of July, the target launch for this update was late this year or early next year.

DC Universe Online reveals anniversary event, plans for 2017

November 29, 2016 3 Comments

What’s on the agenda for superhero MMORPG DC Universe Online in 2017? Oh not much, just a huge stats revamp, new time-limited events, and a double-down on the large content releases players asked for.

That’s the news from the game’s latest dev update, which today explains that Daybreak’s porting over its horizontal progression philosophy from some of its older MMORPGs.

“Next year, one of our major goals is to create horizontal progression. We want to create more choices and more avenues of success,” explains Lead Systems Designer Michael “Avair” Mann. “We want you to increase the breadth of your character, not just your Combat Rating.”

As to those time-limited events, Daybreak says that “events make logging in every day that much more special” but to expect much more than normal seasonal events.

“These events will be more substantive – as in real, engaging content to play – accessible to virtually the entire player population, dripping with cool new rewards, and provide even more to do between each large content release.”

DC Universe Online brings out new holiday outfits and penguins for December

December 2, 2016 1 Comment

It’s time for the holidays in DC Universe Online once again, and that means that a supervillain is going to try to ruin the celebration. Of course, this also means that whether you’re a hero or a villain, you can work on saving Christmas in exchange for a bunch of new holiday costume pieces and base decorations. And really, isn’t that the spirit of the season?

Seriously, is that the spirit of the season? It’s hard to tell sometimes.
Players will have access to new daily missions that can be completed to recover presents and pick up Holly Leaves, the event currency for unlocking all of the base decorations and costuming options that you could want.

You’ll have until December 31st to gather all of the leaves and associated rewards that you’d like; if that’s not going fast enough for you, you can also pick up a few more Holly Leaves in exchange for real money. So it’s really all about getting stuff. That seems like it might be the spirit of the season.

DC Universe Online explains further changes in the new pass of the stat revamp

December 20, 2016 5 Comments

Power is important in DC Universe Online. You need power. But the fact of the matter is that power had kind of become a mess; providing power to yourself over time was a chore and didn’t provide much interesting gameplay, controllers wound up needing to spam power healing, and it was all around not a great scene.

The latest iteration of the stat revamp has altered all of this significantly; power healing is an automatic passive for all characters now, and controllers in the controller role will automatically provide a passive power healing aura, thus allowing focused healing in specific situations while requiring less spam and loadout dedication.

Most ability cooldowns have also been reduced, while controllers in general have received more attention to offer crowd control that lasts longer and is harder to break. The result should be that controllers are more active and effective in battle, players can use powers more, and the necessary but not super-engaging power regeneration loop is no longer mandatory. Players can test out these changes on the test server and offer feedback about whether the changes are for the best or not.Read more

Season’s Greedings only lasts until the 31st, so she has to hurry in and find the presents that Larfleeze stole. Can she possibly earn enough holly leaves to buy a penguin pet for her base? is anyone still playing this?

I get the urge occasionally, but don't want to use up the hard drive space for the occasional pop in. I ended up deleting it, Star Trek Online, and the Neverwinter Nights free to play MMO to make room for FFXV. Seeing this thread bumped made me think about it again, but I just don't see myself setting through another 5+ hour download of it.

I have just started to play it a bit on the Xbox One. (to take a break from Crashrim.. sorry I meant Skyrim)

I am a tad disappointed with it in some way.

Seems I can not have a character based on a "strength" character without having some wonky power like Earth or something. If I wanted a "Shazam" or Superman/girl ect type of hero/villain it does not seem plausible without taking some odd power.

So then I am like Ok, I want to make some sort of character that uses tech to generate their power. (for example Mr Freeze and his gun) but it seems you can not use a "gun" or other device to "generate" your power.

So I am like, Ok, I will have some sort of Power Armor to simulate my power set (like Lex for instance), but yes, no power armor options for your character outfit that I can see. Unless you can collect those later on?? But still it sort of ruins the characters concept.

Right now I am stuck in Character creation limbo.
I will try to come up with something again tonight.

Here's the latest onthe up coming episode to DCUO

DC Universe Online pits players against the Anti-Monitor for the anniversary event

January 5, 2017 2 Comments

January 11th, 2017, marks the six-year anniversary of DC Universe Online. To celebrate, the game is rebooting everything. Or at least it's introducing the threat of that, since the game's anniversary event pits players against the Anti-Monitor.

The main villain of the infamous Crisis on Infinite Earths will now be stomping his way through the world, and it's up to players to stop him by beating the absolute stuffing out of him. (And possibly killing Barry Allen; that has a good track record.)

Players can take on the Anti-Monitor at almost any level, with lower-level players being scaled up to take on his threat in daily missions and an 8-player raid. Clearing the content awards Qwardian Crowns, which can be exchanged for Anti-Monitor costume stylings.

There's also a new dropped set, new collections, and a new title, so players will have plenty to do for the anniversary event for as long as it lasts.

DC Universe Online's sixth anniversary events have arrived

January 11, 2017 1 Comment

Daybreak's having a rough month, but the team working on DC Universe Online is indefatigable. Case in point: The game turns six years old today, and the devs have just rolled out a massive anniversary update, complete with the long-awaited Metropolis Antimatter Invasion Zone, the new 8-man Centennial Collapse raid, and new loot.
"The sixth anniversary of Daybreak Games’ DC Universe Online (DCUO) is here, and with it comes new limited-time in-game events that will unite Super Heroes and Super-Villains. Players must travel through time to a new version of Metropolis, where a Qwardian invasion from the Antimatter Universe threatens the Earth, and take on the Anti-Monitor to save the world from destruction. All participating characters will be scaled up to a high combat rating to allow players of nearly all levels to join this fight to save the world."
The anniversary Anti-Monitor events run through the end of January, so getcher capes on. We've got pics and a brief video down below. Happy birthday, DCUO!
