Klaw being made of sound would look a lot cooler than him just having a cyborg hand. It makes him a much more deadly threat as well. He doesn't have to start out as being full sound. He could just have the sound machine on his hand, but the more he uses it the more he turns into a being of sound. As the threat gets bigger T'Challa has to come up with something that can deal with Klaw's attacks, and that's when he creates the vibranium micro weave in his costume. Then you have a bad ass showdown at the end where Klaw gets taken out by BP near the vibranium mound. Scenery and cool moves all up in the climax.

And as I stated before, I thought what black readers wanted was to show diversity among the black heroes. In fact of the black heroes I can think of, who else other than Cage even has a criminal past?

Falcon. Storm. The Prowler. Abe Brown. Granted the last one (maybe two) are pretty obscure but it is what it is. Back in the day "criminal past" seemed to almost be the default background for a black character. Hell, Falcon was retconned into being a criminal.

The Falcon retcon was the worst. It's like they said to themselves, "Upstanding black guy in the community? Like hell he is. Let's make him a former pimp!"

his powers dont make him compelling...the loss of his hand by T'challa and the need for revenge/vendetta are what make him compelling.

Yeah, gotta agree with you guys on the point about compelling motives.

For someone as ASS-UGLY as Klaw, who couldn't possibly be a hit with the ladies, losing his left hand would be especially devastating, for reasons best left unmentioned...

They can't find a middle ground. Either the black guy is too milquetoast and perfect, or he's a former thugged out banger.

I thought you said it was your friends who got pulled over, not you. Still, getting stopped by a cop once while walking is hardly something to get bent out of shape over. Why did he stop you? I don't know. Why was I stopped? Who cares. It's hardly a life-altering event.

As for Black Panther and Ant-Man, I doubt that'd happen. They're only making two movies per year but they're willing to make an exception for Ant-Man if Wright gets it done in time. More than that, they're not actively working on Black Panther as they are on Ant-Man, so would a Black Panther rushed out the door really be something people want to see? The last thing we need is for them to say "Crap, Ant-Man's not going to make it, so let's churn out a Black Panther movie to fill the slot we had planned for it."

And they're definitely not going to cancel Guardians of the Galaxy in favor of Dr. Strange. As above, they appear to be actively working on the former, not the latter. Moreover, Guardians of the Galaxy appears to fit into their plans for Phase 2, what with Thanos and all. Dr. Strange, on the other hand, doesn't fit into those plans at all. Dr. Strange would be a nice addition down the road, but not at the expense of advancing the Thanos plotline.

Well it wasn't really a life altering event since I already knew something about the subject of racial profiling. Nor was it a life shattering one that made me overly suspicious of police officers or made me stop using the bus stop near where my run-in happened. But what it did do was make me even more sensitive to the reality of racial profiling. That it's not whining or playing the race card or whatever rubbish deniers want to throw up to not address the issue, that unequal policing happens.

My incident happened years ago, and my life has gone on since that point. But I noted it as an example of what I believe was racial profiling. Not an egregious example admittedly, but I have to wonder how many other people are stopped just like me, for doing absolutely nothing?

I also have to wonder how badly things could've gone in the walking incident particularly because the way the cop rolled up on me, in an unmarked car, civilian clothes, and flipping his badge so quick I could barely see, I could've misinterpreted that as someone trying to rob me or attack me, and if I had run or prepared to defend myself, he might have misinterpreted that as guilt and it the whole incident could've spiraled out of control. Fortunately none of those things happened. He showed me the badge again, more slowly, told me why he was questioning me, gave me a once over and hopped back in his car. But who really knows if he was telling me the truth or not? I took him at his word at the time, thought it was an odd thing for the cop to do, and kept it moving.

You might not care what police do or why they do it, but issues of law have played and continued to play an important role in the lives of many Americans, particularly black and brown people in poor communities, I don't think it's something that can be so blithely dismissed. Especially when you have a group of people with inordinate, and literally life and death powers over you and might have harbor prejudicial ideas about you. Potential violations of civil rights are not laughing matters. But to each his own I guess.

Alright, I have found some news, albiet OLD news. The actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje is going to be portraying Algrim/Kurse in the new Marvel movie Thor: The Dark World.

How does this tie in with the Panther? I'm glad you asked buddy! Turns out the actor was also in talks about portraying T'Challa before the Algrim role came up. This may be bad news though, since it could mean the Panther project is on hold.

Adewale graduated from King university in London, which would be kinda ironic in a way. Don't know how reliable the info is though, I found it on wikipedia when looking up the Thor movie.

Prior to all the hype surrounding the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, Marvel's second outing in 2014 was heavily rumored to finally adapt T'Challa, The Black Panther to the big-screen. While that's no longer happening, more discouraging news came when Marvel's co-president suggested that the potential film would be “a little more difficult,” due to the character's homeland being Wakanda, a fictional resource-rich nation in Africa.

Despite all the discouraging news, there have been favorable hints towards the Wakandian king's existence within the Marvel cinematic universe, in previous films. Plus, notorious documentary screenwriter Mark Bailey was hired to pen the film's story in early January last year. Therefore, after The Avengers sequel possibly wraps up “Phase 2” in 2015, that's likely when we'll see The Black Panther grace the silver-screen.



And when the film does eventually get the green-light, another relatively renowned actor to consider for the leading role has emerged. Last year, in the wake of the screenwriter being attached, a Twitter campaign ignited for actor Gbenga Akinnagbe. And when BET.com notified the actor of the random campaign, he responded:

“I used to be [a comic book fan] moreso when I had more time. All I do now is work. Yeah, there's this campaign to get me to be the Black Panther [the Marvel comics superhero]. It's really humbling and I'm honored by it. It's wild that people are really into it. I love comic books, I love action, I'm a pretty active person. I was a wrestler for a great deal of my life. And to play the Black Panther? Get out of here! He comes from Africa. He comes from the most technologically advanced city in the world. It's easy for me to do the math.”

For those who don't know, Gbenga Akinnagbe, 33, is best known for his roles in the Oscar-nominated independent film The Savages, The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, Edge of Darkness, and of course HBO series The Wire. And born in the United States to Nigerian parents, Akinnagbe has set out to show how versatile he is, having comedic roles in Lottery Ticket, and the TV series Nurse Jackie and Showtime's Barbershop.

Considering Marvel has already nabbed Anthony Mackie and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje for different roles, who've also expressed interest in The Black Panther, I do think Gbenga Akinnagbe would fill T'Challa greatly. While we have a long wait before legit news makes rounds for the potential film, what do you think?

I hate to use phases like 'a friend of a so & so told me',but I do know someone who has a relative that was asked to come to MS about taking the role of the the Black Panther,which will be after Phase 2 or Avengers 2 movie.

Just chiming in:

Sound Klaw is not a great idea. A nice homage to that might be for him to be killed by being converted into sound by his machine, that could leave room for fans to argue if he's coming back, but a sentient coherent sonic energy being isn't a very... sound idea.

Gbenga Akinnagbe could do a great job. I think a LOT of guys could do a great job, as much as I don't prefer Mackie or AAA for the role... the idea that they would turn in anything short of a stellar performance is doubtful. They're both awesome.

Another thought I had, is that a lot of what T'Challa used to do the best has been taken over by other Avengers.

T'Challa's almost Reed Richards-level tech inventiveness is now Iron Man's domain
T'Challa's superhuman martial arts mastery is now well in Captain America's grasp
T'Challa's royal rulership abilities are now well within Thor's grasp
T'Challa's people analysis and manipulation is what Black Widow does
The idea of T'Challa as this unstoppable for is what Hulk is all about at this point
Even Hawkeye has the cool projectile gadgets

So where does that leave Black Panther as far as setting himself apart as a superhero? I think a few things he has unique for him are his stealth abilities, incredible agility and detective skills with their associated sensory abilities. In fact, that sensory character does seem to be completely missing, and it dovetails well with the idea of a stealth character, and allows T'Challa to be a problem solver without seeming like a second rate anyone else. It's also possible, since in his origin-origin he is explicitly 19, that he could take 'The Kid' role that Spider-Man usually takes. Not sure I'd like that too much, but it's possible.

A few years ago....maybe he was too young, but Lee Thompson Young would be a perfect Black Panther.

Youth, charisma, good looks, decent actor...

NO...he's not African or international. Doesn't mean he wouldn't be marketable as BP or as one of the Avengers.

Lee Thompson Young just has a good hero look. When I was little I used to watch him on that Disney show The Famous Jet Jackson haha. And he was good as Cyborg on Smallville even though Smallville kinda sucked.

But shouldnt Marvel be looking for an actor with a better resume than his?

I haven't read any solo Black Panther stories I have only seen the animated series, what are his best villains in the comics?

It's not just about the resume. (See: Chris Hemsworth. Also, Tom Hiddleston.) That's one of many mistakes that movie studios often make in casting actors in their movies.

As for villains, a quick scan of some of the discussions in this thread will point you to Ulysses Klaw, M'Baku/Man-Ape, and Eric Killmonger as three major villains in Black Panther's rogues gallery.
